I have a DataGridView which populates from an SQL query just fine in default mode
using these table names
[firstName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL,
[lastName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL,
[code]....
I have edited the column headers and set the column names to the same values as my table names yet the data is not showing in form load I have set datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False I know the data is there if I delete datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False then the data is shown with the default headings?
I'm trying to create an export Excel/CSV function that will iterate through a custom object and first output the property names and then output the values. I want to use reflection only where necessary so I'm attempting to save the property names when I output the headers and then reuse them to print the values. Is this possible? I'm a little weary of using reflection in a loop but is there a better way?

I would like to read values set in a string that's retrieved from the Web, I've already got the string in a string called Webdata.The string is like so...
"Info" {
"Name" {
"Name1""Value1"

I need to set Value1, Value2, Value3 as strings that I can use.
I have a database in my app which loads and displays some information on a form by binding the Comboboxes and Textboxes. However, I need to get some of the other values from the database for calculations before they are displayed on the form and I can't seem to find out how to do this.I could bind a couple of Textboxes to the database and then use those values to calculate, but it doesn't seem like a very efficient way of doing things.The dataset is created using the wizard and the controls are linked in the UI.
Please bear with me, I'm still a noob.
is that instead of receiving data from one row and assigning it to the same array Im receiving data from multiple rows, but the information is the same because its from the same one column from the database. The error I keep getting is 'index out of bounds of array'
here is the code
What it does is it loops through once and retrieves the first value from the db then it throw the exception when it goes to retrieve the second value.
Dim qBkNum As String = "SELECT BookingNum FROM Bookings WHERE BookingID = '1'"
Dim bkNum(5) As String

In VB.Net how does one call a Parameterised function name retrieved from a table?

[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?

Basically I have a form with Five textboxes and what I want to do is to click a 'Submit' button and copy not only the text from all 5 textboxes but the name of the textbox or a label.
Sample:
Names / TextBoxes
Box1: Text1
Box2: Text2
Box3: Text3
Box4: Text4
Box5: Text5
And when you click submit you would get the text in that format when you paste it in a separate textbox.Is it possible and how would I go about doing that? I know I can copy multiple textboxes but I want to retain the label or title along with the filled in text.
I found this snippet which loops the the old and new values, but I need to figure out the Parameter names that the values are associated with.
Sub DisplayValues(ByVal newValues As OrderedDictionary, ByVal oldValues As OrderedDictionary)
test.Text &= "<br/></br>"

Is it possible to construct the name of an object (in this case, a Panel control) at runtime?
What I want to do is change the Backcolor of one Panel that is a member of about fifty panels. I can get the string of the name from the Sender in a RadioButton CheckedChanged event. So what I want to do is something like:
PanelName = sender.parent.name & ".BackColor"
PanelName = Color.Red
(I realize that the syntax above is invalid. I'm just using it to try to get the idea across.)
I can do what I need with big, fifty-element Select Case blocks, but the code is so repetitive that I was hoping there was a more elegant way.
For my assignment i need to list all the objects and their names. Surely i can get a list because typing out 150 names seems a bit ?

I'm trying to get the list of field names for a given table, to turn them into a string which I can to post back as a variable to another function.I've Googled loads of stuff regarding GetSchemaTable but all I seem to be able to output are field parameters, but not the actual value of these parameters (ie ColumnName, which is the one I actually want!)
Found this page; What is the SQL command to return the field names of a table?But all the queries on there give me an error "You do not have access to Table 'Columns'"I feel sure this is pretty simple, can someone give me a little function that will simply give me fieldNames = "fieldName1, fieldName2, etc"I am using a MySQL server and ODBC connections ASP.NET using VB.
I'm trying to have a ListBox show a list of tables available in a database. This can then be selected to be used later on.My problem is getting the actual table name to show up. I have the connection to the mysql database working properly, but it just shows "System.Data.DataRowView"

View 2 RepliesI would like to add the names of people in a SQL Database to a Multiline textbox if two values in their row do not equal 6. The first name and last name, as well as graduating year need to be added to the textbox, and then a new line needs to be created. The two values are contained in two separate columns in the DB. I'd like to try and stay away from using SQL Queries to accomplish this, so is there any way I can call these values using VB? Keep in mind the number of people that have values under 6 may vary from time to time. The purpose of this will be so that someone can print out a list of members who don't have the required amount of points at any given time.
