I want to build a VB program that will go to a web site and pull out a specific piece of data.I am using VB Express 2010 not sure if it belongs in this .net forum.I am successfully getting to the website using WebBrowser.navigate()The data is provided to me in XML format and I am told that it is ready to be retrieved. They tell me to use XML Parser.When I go to their web site I see the data I need to pull out there is a column with tags in front of each piece, the piece I need is between <Vr0> and </Vr0>.I have no resources other than the net currently I do have a dummies book ordered but will be at least next week (at the earliest) before my first book arrives.Can you explain how I can sort through the data and pull out the data in XML format on a web site?

am using sql 2005 and vb 2008.i need to compare dates and select matching records betweem a selected date range.say records between 11/13/2010 and 11/20/2010.e.thing is working ok except when it comes to selecting dates between 11/1/2010 and 11/9/2010.this is happening because when am retrieving the dates from database,its being retrieved in the format 11/01/2010 instead of 11/1/2010 and so it reports no records found,and knowing the limits of sql 2005 this is the only way i can retrieve the date. You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .
i'm making a program to calculate loan using dates, the customer borrows an item on a particular day and returns it on a given day else he would have to pay a certain amount of fine per day, which starts from the date of return if the user returns the item 1 day after the Date of Return, he pays a fine of 50pence if the user returns the item 3 days after the Date of Return, he pays a fine of 25pence per day if the user returns the item 10 days after the Date of Return, he pays a fine of 10pence per day and if the user returns the item 30 days after the Date of Return, he pays a fine of 5pence per day i did something like this, but it's not producing the required answer

I have one listbox an import button and a save button. Basically the import button allows the user to select photos and he list box then shows the directory for them. I am trying to figure out how VB can focus a specific program and then send commands to the program only. The focus would only be for the commands and would not make the program you are currently in lose focus. Simply, what it is controlling is a Windows Application called GOM Player. I use it to study my material for school. I plays movies in it and don�t have to click out of the application I am working in to pause, play or rewind. The keypad and the company who make it actually have it built into iTunes and it does exactly what I want GOM Player to do.
The reason I dont just use iTunes is because I can�t get my video files to play in iTunes. After pulling teeth with the manufacture I finally to tell me that the iTunes functionality is accessible via plugins built into iTunes. So trying to mimic what is being done there does not help. I believe that a knowledgeable VB programmer could answer my question in seconds, but having some experience with coding and programing I know it also could be a lot more than what I think. [URL]

The format string the program reads is something like "yyyyMMdd-%1-%2-%3-%4" which the user can customize to his liking. In this case the format of the date is yyyyMMdd and the %1 is the trip number like 1000P, %2 is the origin code like PTTTT, %3 is the destination code like PHYUD, and %4 is a secondary stop code like YYYY123. I'm having problems taking the actual data and formatting into the custom string. I believe its the date format that I'm getting stuck on.

I am using Visual Basic 2008, and SQL Server 2005. I have a single-user client-server app (i know that sounds stupid, but its for future expandibility and also the fact that documentation was easier to find for SQL server than Access files).The app is basically a medicals records system.
In one of the tables, called 'visits', it stores the dates on which each patient visits the doctor, among other things like symptoms and diagnosis. Another table stores all the patient names and IDs along with other details, and a relation has been set up between the patient ID in the patients table and the visits table. So i dragged the visits table from within the patients table (to get only the visits for that particular patient), and dragged it onto the form to make a datagridview. However, the datagridview didn't seem to recognise MS SQL server's smalldatetime format, and tried representing it as a picture. When i changed the format of the column to text boxes, it gave me a type mismatch error (Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'VisitDate' of DateTime and the DataColumn 'VisitDate' of Byte[].) That means, for some reason, it is trying to convert the smalldatetime data to byte before it shows it, which is leading to the error. How do i fix this?
Also, I remember seeing some option for using completely custom column types in the datagridview, but i cant seem to find it now. The options in 'Edit Columns' are very limited, but i would like to set it to a masked text box, or something with a fixed format. Can someone recommend a good column type for representing dates, and how to make the datagridview show that kinda column?

I'm using two datetimepicker controls to set the start and end dates for a range of dates I'm searching for.I want to make sure that the start date selected is not greater than the end date. This code works, but it runs the messagebox prompt twice for some reason. I've tried to ignore it from doing this, but it's not working. Can someone tell me what's wrong?
