Getting The Row Number Of The Dataset By Using Datagridview's Currentrow Property

Jan 11, 2012

I have a datagridview that is bounded to a dataset and when i select an item to the datagridview to delete, I get the correct item. But when i sorted the datagridview to some field, it return a different item. Here is my code:

DSet.Tables("sec_company_address").Rows(sec_company_address.CurrentRow.Index).Delete()

Edit: i try this line but it brings up an error.

Dim xID As String = sec_role_module.CurrentRow.Cells("nID").Value.ToString
sDataSet.Tables(sec_role_module.Name).Rows.Find(xID).Delete()

DataGridView: Getting CurrentRow Number After Row Selection?

Jul 9, 2007

I have an inconsistency in behaviour when I try to get the CurrentRow after a row has been selected.

If I select the first row in a DataGridView object using the mouse, the DataGridView1.SelectionChanged event fires, and DataGridView1.CurrentRow is the newly selected row (Row 0).

If I select the first row via code however ie. DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView.Rows(0).Cells(0) then the DataGridView1.SelectionChanged also fires, but CurrentRow is the old row, not the new row.

In fact CurrentRow doesn't get updated until AFTER the SelectionChanged event has fired if you force the row change in the code, but is updated BEFORE SelectionChanged if you do the row change via the mouse or keyboard.

how to check if its the first row if I've moved to the first row using CurrentCell ?

VS 2005 DatagridView CurrentRow Index After Record Deleted?

Apr 1, 2009

i have a bound datagrid that allows users to delete & edit records within the grid using 2 buttons. delete deletes the record from the datatable. edit takes the cell values and places them in controls outside of teh datagridview for teh user to update, they then click an update button (outside datagridview) which updates the datarow

i delete a record using the dt.Rows[e.RowIndex].Delete method so that i can use the Rowstate property to do a final update on all records the problem arises when i delete a record then go to edit a record the CurrentRow index is incorrect as it still see's the deleted record.

if i delete the first record in the grid, then go to edit the next record (which is now rowIndex 0) i get an error saying unable to update deleted row contents

i then tried to use the defaultView property of the datatable when updating the row - which will update the row on screen but when i go to do the final update it see the modified row as its original deleted rowstate.

C# - Limit Number Of Rows That Can Be Entered In A Datagridview Based On Property Of DGV?

Feb 24, 2010

I have a UI that uses datagridviews / bindingsource / datatables of typed dataset for data entry. The dataset itself is serialized to a varbinary(max) in SQL. (i.e. no tableadapter, backend schema).I would like to limit the number of rows the user can enter into some of the grids (the data is used to fill PDF forms and I don't want them entering more rows than the forms can accomodate.).I have subclassed the datagridview, added a rowlimit property and tried to manipulate the AllUsertoAddRows property

Imports System.Windows.Forms
Public Class dgv
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.DataGridView[code]......

The behavior I see is that the messagebox comes up after leaving the max row even when the user is trying to leave the grid. I can lose the messagebox and deal with notification some other way but I thought someone else may have come up with something a little more sophisticated to handle simply causing attempting to add to many records to navigate out of the grid to the next UI control.

IDE :: Dataset Code Behind Datatable.ColumnChanging Event Firing / But Dataset.HasChanges Property Not True

Jan 28, 2010

I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

I am using VS 2005 pro and VB.NET. How do you format the DataGridView.DefaultCellStyle.format property for zip codes and phone numbers. I have a zip code and phone number column(s) that I want to be formatted. I have tried a lot of different things:

Zip code: "99999-0000" or "Phone Number: "(999)000-0000" or "(000)000-0000" and the like So far nothing has worked. I can get my date columns formatted correctly, but not these. Can any one give me some examples that work?

Filter A Dataset Using A Number Different Inputs, Selected By A Number Of Check Boxes?

Mar 3, 2010

I am trying to filter a dataset using a number different inputs, selected by a number of check boxes. I have all the text base rowfilters working, but I can not make the date filter work unless I hard code the datetime into the code. The database is MS Access and I am using VB2008 to show the data. I would like to be able to use a DateTimePicker to set the filter date (without the time part) Also I would need to remove the time section of the datEnterDate. I cannot change the structure of the database fields. Also the datEnterDate is MM/dd/yyyy, because I'm in England I would like to use the format of dd/MM/yyyy if possible

Assign A Dataset To The TAG Property Of A Textbox?

Nov 17, 2010

I am trying to assign a dataset to the TAG property of a textbox control in my application. The code seems to do the assignment without any error but I cant see the property TAG name or the assigned value using quickwatch etc. etc. The TAG property name does show in the design window.

Is this property useable in my version (academic 2002 version 7.0) or does the TAG and any assigned value it holds not show in quickwatch. I can only find 1 reference which seems to suggest the TAG property is not supported in early versions, but would prefer a definitive answer.

How To Override Dataset.Desinger Property

Nov 20, 2009

In my project, I have a table that has an image column, but with vs2008 it stores the image as bytes. I have the column set to allow nulls. When I save my image I convert it to a byte array. Then when I retrieve that row, I convert the byte array back to the image, no problems. The problem is when there is not an image selected I return Nothing to the datatable, saves ok, but when I try to retrieve that row, The dataset.desinger throw the "value in column dbnull". I can temporary override this error with a code change in the dataset.designer, but it does not stay permanently. How can I override the dataset.desinger property permanently.

Original dataset.desinger code:
<Global.System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()> _
Public Property Image() As Byte()
Get
Try
Return CType(Me(Me.tableCustomers.ImageColumn),Byte())
[Code] .....

All I did is add the if statement capturing the dbnull and forcing it to return Nothing instead. When I close VisualStudio, then reopen this change is gone. How can I keep this or override it.

C# - Serializing A Dataset To A Strongly Type Business Object Property?

Nov 14, 2009

In a vb .net winforms app I am trying out something for "wide and shallow" children of a record. I use strongly typed business objects ( Strataframe ).My plan is to have a number of "child tables" collected in a dataset I drop on the form. they have no correspondence in persisted data, so the dataset is untyped and I am creating the schema through the property sheet for the tables. Each table is the datasource for a datagridview in the interface.

In my proof of concept sample, My main businessobject (CustomerBO) interacts with a SQL Server 2008 table with fields - pk, name, - and a third column which is currently varchar(max) as I considered XML but could just as easily be varbinary(max) if that works better for holding the serialized dataset.

bo.bigfield will be the strongly typed prop I want to hold the byte() array or XML or whatever that represents the dataset for that record.So, the question in a nutshell - how do I convert a dataset to a single datum and reproduce the dataset from that datum. This is my first foray into datasets, datagridviews as well so if there are better ways to accomplish any of that I'm listening.

VS 2008 : Class Property That Accepts DataSet Or DataTable As Argument?

I'm working on a helper class that will make things easier for me when connecting to and viewing a crystal report.Now I need to create a Property called DataSource. Crystal has a SetDataSource method that has 4 overloads/constructors(not sure what the right term is)1 accepts a System.Collections.Ienumerable, the 2nd accepts a Dataset, the 3rd a DataTable, and the 4th a DataReader.Now I want my property to be able to accept all those. So what Type must my property be.If I can just have DataSet and DataTable for now it would be fine, as I work with those mostly Public Property DataSource as?

Adding Line Number To A Dataset?

OrderNumber,Name,Model,Cost
123,john doe,product1,20.99
123,john doe,product2,10.75

There can be multiple of the same order number. In the dataset, I want to have a column "line number" and I want to put in it the value of the linenumber (in this case 1 and 2) per order. In sql , I was able to accomplish this by inserting rownumber() and grouping by order number. Can this be done in .net?

VS 2010 Max Number In Dataset Column

Jun 17, 2011

I'm making my own ID field (highest number + 1) and using it when I insert a row into my tableadapter, and I've tried two ways...

Ordering my dataset by ID descending and picking the first row does nothing for me.

I've tried building a datatable and ordering it descending and choosing the first row. This works great until you get to 10... Then it counts 1, 10, 2, 3, 4...

How can I make a textbox, label, etc be the next ascending number in my column Highest Number + 1?

.net - Going From Excel To A DataSet Or DataGridView

Jul 28, 2010

I have data that I'm taking from an Excel sheet with the ultimate goal of displaying in a DataGridView.

Currently I am just going over the UsedRange of excel data and plugging it into a datagridview. This works fine, but can get bogged down when there 100+ rows of data.

I have also toyed with going from excel into a dataset (using the same wasteful method), and as expected it takes about the same time to load the data. Maybe use the XML from the Excel file?

EDIT:

Some Additional Information:

This is a WinForms application and the user will be picking and loading the excel file at run-time.

EDIT

The Return of Some Additional Information:

The Excel file is located on the user's pc. The general assumption is that they will be loading different files each time they use the application. [not sure if this helps, but might be good to know :)]

The problem is that I want to sort the datagridview rows using that column and do so in the order I just gave so I want rows with C on top and then R and then A and then V. Because these aren't alphabetical, how could I sort the items this way? I did look into the icomparer, but really wasn't able to figure out how that works.

Dataset And Datagridview Not Synchronized?

Apr 22, 2010

I have a data bound datagridview where I am allowed to add and delete rows.So a new row is the last row in the grid with the '*'. When a user starts to type in the new row, that row no longer is considered the new row. It is then inserted into a row above the new row (*). The user, however, can press 'Esc' key and this row gets deleted.If the user does not pressed 'Esc' but move the cursor along that row, this row will be permanently there. I have tested this scenario and check the underlying dataset and it registers no changes as in the myDataset.hasChanges=FALSE.If I call myDataAdapter.Update(myDataSet), nothing gets updated. How do I save this row to the database?

IndexOutOfRange From Datagridview When Refreshing Dataset?

Oct 6, 2010

I have a datagridview on a form that is bound to a table in a dataset from another class.I use a data adapter to .Fill a table in that dataset and the grid displays the data fine.Works fine.On my form I have a textbox the user can type in that will will pass a parameter to the storedprocedure used to fill this table. So on startup the textbox will have "%" in it. and then the user can type in "F%" and get everything that starts with an "F"

So when that textbox changes I launch an async refresh (.BeginInvoke) to do my refresh. The table gets populated with the reduced number of records (I check ds.table(0).rows.count and it is correct)

But the datagridview then starts throwing datagridview.dataerror events. "System.IndexOutofRangeException : Index # does not have a value".It looks like the dataset is getting filled correctly and not having any issues, but the datagrid is not liking this update. The index out of range error is so common that I'm not finding what I need through searches.
