Hide A Method/property For Intellisense?
Sep 28, 2009
I have a Class A that inherits from a base class. In the class A i have build some methods/properties.What I want is that some methods/properties from the base class are not visible in the intellisense which makes it easier for a developer. Basically i want to hide all the methods/functions/etc.. which are no use.Is this possible whithout having to use the EditorBrowsableAttribute for every item? The best way would be to tell the class that it must hide all props/methods/functions/etc... and after that i can specify which MUST be visible.
'by default hide all props/functions/etc.... ????

I want to create a custom control (let say textbox), after build, when I place that custom control on a form, all the properties for the default textbox are available.
1- How to Hide them and only show the wanted property and method?
2- Is there a Wizard or custom tool for creating custom control or I had to do every thing by coding?

I am writing my first class-library in VB.NET. My idea is to distribute this library so others may use it in their applications. However, perhaps due to my lack of experience in writing and structuring the library and the classes therein, I noted that the methods/properties are ALL being shown in the IntelliSense of Visual Studio.
The thing is that many of them are only used within the library itself and should NOT be used by the developers (could create a disaster) when they incorporate my library in their application - only a few should be visibile i.e. the ones which are needed by the developer. Thus, my question is: is there a way to hide certain methods/properties of my library from Visual Studio's IntelliSense? Maybe something similar to REM?
EDIT: as mentioned - this is my first library and I now understand that my question could be intepreted in two ways:
1) how to hide something from IntelliSense
2) how to prevent a developer from using and calling certain methods/properties
Of course, the end-result that I want is that the developer is not able to access AT ALL certain methods/properties i.e. No. 2 above.

I do not get intellisense working when creating a Property. How do I get intellisense to work here? Intellisense seems to work otherwise, just not with the Get / Set instantiations.

I'm a normal user of to Visual Studio 2008 and very experienced with VS 2005. On 2008 when after I enter the parenthesis after the object method name I see an intellisense prompt with the parameter name defined on the method along with a := sign. What does := means and why does it show up? anyway it helps me a lot sometimes if I use same variable names on different service tiers. What does := means?

I have a TableAdapter I created in the DataSet designer. It contains joined tables and I set it up to automatically generate Insert/Update/Delete commands. I understand that I have to write my own UpdateCommand. I did so, in the DataSet Designer, for this particular TableAdapter.
The issue is that the Update Method is not showing up via IntelliSense, when I attempt to write code like this:
vb.net Dim x as Integer = Me.DPTableAdapter.Update(), IntelliSense does not show the Update Method with the parameters I set up.I created the same exact method with another TableAdapter, in the same manner, and it worked just fine.
I also call EndEdit on the BindingSource, I just did not put it in this post.

When working with the code within a control's subprocedure if you type it brings up intellisense as you would expect: Code: sender. Within the intellisense there is no text property listed to select from however if you just type "text" after the "sender." it allows it. It also doesn't capatilize the T in text after you leave the line as you would expect to see when working with other properties. This is the first occurence that I've seen where an item was not included in intellisense but allowed it without errors. This is a big code saver and discovery for me as it cuts my other previous methods of extracting the control's text down to a single simple line.

(VS 2008)I'm using a C# library for my VB.NET project. And the method summary/notes or what they are called do not show in intellisense. Is this supposed to be like that? Or is there something I must do to fix it? And if not, will VS 2010 be able to do this?
EDIT: Still unresolved. Now building library dll + xml file, but how to import the xml file in my vb project?

I am a student in a Visual Basic class. We were working on a project using the Count property of the ListBox. I'm using Visual Studio Professional Edition 2008. When I enter a line in the editor that looks something like this: If lstResults.Items.Co
IntelliSense will generate a little balloon that says 'Public ReadOnly Property Count() I saw the () after Count and thought that meant that was the proper way to code it. So that is what I did. The code seems to work with ...Count() or just ...Count. I was wondering if there is some reason why the parens show up after the description of the Property in IntelliSense.

start with I was given a program by a friend that was created in Excel 2003 with the help of Visual Basic Editor. He said he used Visual Basic 2003, which he is not 100% sure about. Anyways he used CurLine in the program and when I try to open it in Excel 2007 and then open the Visual Basic Editor and run the program I get the following error:Run-time error '-2147418113 (8000ffff)':Could not get the CurLine property. Unexpected call to method or property access.

I'm trying to go to a different form my main form and while I'm using the selected form I want the MainForm to hide. I've put the code MainForm.Hide() at the top of the code of the JobInformationForm where I'm directing the program. I thought this would cause the MainForm window to hide. However, I'm getting an error saying Declaration is Expected. How do I use this MainForm.Hide() feature?

Is there a way to hide a method of a base class that has been inherited?Lets say the base class has the properties:
x
y
Height
Width
and the method
sub SpecialInstructions()
Now this class is inherited by some classes that either use the SpecialInstructions method or override it. But one class inherits it but cant make use of the method and therefore wants to hide it. I tried shadowing but it still seems that the method is visible ex

I would like to make sure that certain properties/methods of native framework methods are not called in a project I'm working on. I want to use custom methods instead, and make sure that those methods are always used. How would I do that?
These are the details:
In a rather large web project, we have several pieces of code creating and sending email messages using the MailMessage object. I want to perform some additional checking, logging etc whenever an email address is added to either the To, CC or BCC MailAddressCollection
of a MailMessage object. Basically I'd like to make sure that it is not possible, in this entire Solution, to do this: MyMailObject.To.Add(something@somwhere.com), and the same for "CC" and "BCC".
First, I thought about not using the MailMessage object at all, but inherit it and override the methods that allow adding of addresses. I ran into some trouble though when trying to shadow the "To" property, since "To" is a reserved word... And then I realized that it probably wouldn't solve my problem entirely anyway, since there would be nothing stopping another developer (or myself being stupid) from creating an instance of the original MailMessage class and use it at will.
I have successfully created a method which centralizes all the adding of various recipient addresses, but I can't figure out how to prevent the original methods from being used by mistake.

Why do Me.Hide() And me.visible do nothing under form loading event? Now the obvious answer to me was because how could you call a form to hide if it has not loaded. Make's sense to me. So i checked the documentation to see what options i had. If the form isn't loaded when the Hide method is invoked, the Hide method loads the form but doesn't display it. Interesting. So from what i gather here me.hide should still hide the form. Or have i misinterpreted the documentation? Because the form does still display. Neither also work under Public Sub New().
The only solution i found was under sub new was to change the forms opacity to nothing. Which works fine. But after reading the documentation on Opacity i am still left with another question regarding "Visible vs Hide Vs Opacity" Calling me.hide makes the forms visible property false, Calling opacity set to Nothing makes the form in visible. Both these methods do the required task but does one take up more memory or should be favored over the other? Just because some thing work's i have learned it is not always necessarily the best way to do something.

1. How do i encapsulate the class reference variable "refB" in property?2. If i hide this class variable "refB" in a property, how do i write the code code initilize "refB" in "A"'s constructor?

I am working in VB.NET 2010 Framework 2.0.
I don't want to allow some properties from going into form's designer file but the those properties will present on the form(property grid). The behavior of these properties will be same always.
I used the following code:
<DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)>
Public Property GradientBegin() As Color = Color.Red
But the problem I am facing is that -> on the property grid after changing the "GradientBegin" color to other than RED and compiling the program, it is replacing the new changed value to RED again. So I am not able to change the color actually.

Listview.Checkboxes is not overridable.
Can I add attributes to Listview.Checkboxes? Maybe the following?

If not, does the following make sense?

I've got two classes deployed as COM+ components, let's say ClassA and ClassB. ClassA has some public properties. ClassB sets values for those properties and calls a method of ClassA. The method itself does not modify the value of the property. After the call the values of the properties are reset to default values for the corresponding types. This only happens if the called method includes statement ContextUtil.SetComplete(). Once I comment out the statement the values of the properties remain same as they were before the method call, which is what I expect. Do I overlook some basic concept of COM+ objects and their contexts? I would expect the property value to remain the same in any case.
Here's the simplified listing for the code:
Option Strict Off
Option Explicit On
Imports System.EnterpriseServices
<Transaction(TransactionOption.Required)> _
Public Class ClassA

maybe it's not a method exactly. here's what I'd like to do:
Private _Columns As ArrayList
Public Property Columns() As ArrayList
Get[code]....
which would allow me to conveniently set the property by assigning to it various kinds of collection types... except, I can't do it because apparently the Set method has to take an argument of the type of the property itself... I get the complaint:
'Set' parameter must have the same type as the containing property
is there a way to do this?

Is it accepted to have a method parameter named the same as a property? At least it gives no error, even if in the same letter-case.. How does the compiler distinguish? does it always prioritize the local parameter?
