I am connecting to a SQL database on a hosted server and everything is ok but if I publish the application then it fails to connect which is a bummer because then I can't debug it!
I have tried turning off windows firewall and that doesn't make any difference.

Nov 9, 2010I wrote a password storage app that uses cryptography to store password and user info. Each time I start the app either in the IDE or from Windows it attempts to connect to the internet. It is not supposed to connect to anything except a local Access mdb file. Nothing in the app has any need to access the internet. Jul 10, 2010I have a small web browser application I wrote in VB.NET that is specific to it's use. To set it up, I have to setup port forwarding. Is there any way I can write another .NET app that runs on my dedicated server, accepts an incoming connection from my home PC that sits there. Then any other incoming connection from the outside world can then be connected to my home pc through the app on the dedicated server? If there is a term for this sort of process or program, I do not know what it is.

May 26, 2012I have an internet available SQL Server 2008 R2 instance that is running normally. Clients connect over the internet from vs 2005 and 2010 desktop applications, without issue. My scan gun application can connect to the local instance (if I'm in my office) but not to the internet instance from my Windows Mobile 5.0 scanning device. Connect string = user id=[Code]. This connection string works fine for the desktop apps. It's not a port issue, I have all the correct ports open.

I really really need to understand why my own server "KARIMOV-PC" doesn't work as a remote SQL Server although the SQL Remote Connections and SQL Browser r enabled and running? And Why .\SQLEXPRESS is the more needed/required although I log in to SQL with Windows Authentication, but not SQL Authentication??

May 29, 2012i m currently working on application that has to monitor temperature and humidity of a particular place and constantly report the same to the user over internet. So far, I m using LPC1768 and its ethernet module collect the data, process it and send it to the router. On the other side, i have a computer which is connected to the same router and running a VB application where the data is mined and reported in a excel.
This setup works just fine. Now, i want to monitor the same data over internet. How can i do the same?
Here i was able to connect to the micro-controller using the IP 192.168.1.100 port 80. I m aware that the IP is a local one and to access the micro controller from Internet there is another way.I have a IP based webcam which enables us to monitor from internet. Jul 13, 2010I am developing a winforms application that will have an offline mode, so that it can access the data if an internet connection (or more accurately, a connection to my WCF service) cannot be established. I have decided to utilize SQL Server Compact edition on the client side of the application & was wondering what the general consensus is on the "best" practice for making the client application (Sql Server Compact) subscribe to the master database (MSSQL 2008).
Management enters information into a web based administration panel that I developed and is stored in a MSSQL 2008 database.After adding / modifying information, they can click a release "datapack" button which will increment a "datapack" version number, which will later be used by the client application to determine if they are in sync or not. When the client application is started, it connects to the internet and determines if the version numbers are in sync. If not, it pulls the information from the server.
That third step is where I'm a bit lost I thought about simply developing a web service that will expose a dataset containing all of the data and just iterating through it doing inserts, but that seems terribly inefficient to me. The full database probably wouldn't amount to much more than 5 MB total, so that led me to think it would be great if when management clicks the release datapack button, it would store the database in a file that could simply be downloaded and would replace the embedded database. Again, I'm a little lost on how that would work. This is my first time working with an embedded database, most of my work has been web/win apps that have real-time access to the data.

When the program is started it should make a connection with the following cases:
1-no connection with the database (possible no internet available) - it should display an error message
2-there is connection, the IP is not stored on the database, it addes the IP to the database and the field "started" with the value 1

Dec 2, 2011What I am looking to do is write a VB.NET program, as a service that reports anything on client1 that I want (say the fact it is online) to a database on the internet, so I can look on management1 and see the online status of the machine (assuming management1 has a connection to the online database).
What is being reported doesn't matter, what I am looking at is a starting point to create a system like that. I have googled obviously and come up with nothing, I'd just like a "starting point" or some documentation to look at for creating something like this. The service doesn't look too difficult but the periodic reporting of online status or ANYTHING to any kind of database is not something I am sure how to deal with.
I already have setup a VBS that reports information to an ASP script that then places it in a database but I don't know how I would create say a "keep alive" connection for a vb.net service.

May 17, 2009I am using VB code behind in Visual Studio 2008 to process data but can't figure out SQLConnection problems. I copied and pasted the connectionstring for my database from the explorer properties window but when I paste it inside the parenthesis of SqlConnection() it gives me an error. Also if I name a variable " dim myconnect As New SqlConnection" in does not give me all of the methods or attributes that are associated with it. Is this a Express Edition limitation or do I need to make some specific declarations to get it to work. this is what I have so far
