Dec 2, 2010I am trying to build a coordinates system but am having trouble with how to.. What I have sofar is a textbox that allows the user to enter a length. This length is user defined but never smaller then 610 in length since this is the minimum unit size we use to build timber frames. The overall length of a timber frame is infinite (well not really, but it is for what I want) the timber frame has beams every 610mm set apart from each other (this is a legal requirement) so I want my vb.net to set coordinates for each beam at intervals of 610 then write that coordinates system to a text based *.SCR file

Mouse Y coordinates increase from top to bottom while my grid's y value increase from bottom to top. Given my following code, I would need to create 21,500 separate conditional expression for 100(y) x 215(x) possible coordinate locations for my grid.

Apr 28, 2011I have a problem related to a project work of field observations of points. So I have a text file (file.txt) of coordinates X and Y of vertexes (separated by a comma like below):
X, Y
12.2 , 13.1

(and so on to 15 lines of x's and y's)
I need a program which can read this text.txt file with the given coordinates and store them as 2 generic lists using Loop and Split function and also the program should display the data read from text.txt file into a multiline text box. Next the program has to use the 2 lists to be passed to a function that first calculates the average values for the coordinates X and Y, and then work out the areas of triangles by = 1/2 SUM [ (xb-xR)(ya-yR)-(yb-yR)(xa-xR) ] where x/y ''a'' is the current vertex and x/y ''b'' is the next vertex in the polygon. I presume the program has to loop around the whole polygon to vertices to summing up the areas of the triangles and at the end multiply by 1/2 and give the positive modulus or ABS() of the area.

Sep 21, 2011I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically

Jun 14, 2009I've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.

The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.

File I/O And Registry :: File Read/write From A Collection?
Nov 17, 2010I am working on a program with multiple collections related to one another for a school project. Each collection needs to have its own defined properties and have the objects written (1 per line) to a text file.
I have all of that working.
When reading the comma-separated line from the file, I want to place one of the properties of the object in a listbox (so that all the objects' names will show up in the listbox). I think I have this part figured out...
My problem is that when you click on the name in the listbox, I would like multiple text boxes to be populated with the appropriate, corresponding properties of the particular object in the collection...is there a way for this to be done?
