Sep 27, 2009I set up some application settings for checkboxes on an app and then decided to remove them. When I set the Application Settings to (none) in the designer and restarted the app, the checkbox constantly checks and unchecks itself. I completely remade the app and removed the file that is used to store my.settings in the Local folder of the user's appdata profile. I also made sure to uncheck the "save my.settings" on shutdown.

Nov 24, 2011I want to save a Custom DateTimePicker.Value in my Application Settings. The custom format is : dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss, instead of dd/MM/yyyy The field i've created in the application settings parameters is LASTSAVE (DATE / APPLICATION)
When I try to link in the ApplicationSettings/PropertyBinding ... VALUE with my field LASTSAVE, i have an error :
The Value '01/01/0001 00:00:00' is not valid for 'Value'. 'Value' mustbe ... 'MinDate' et 'MaxDate'.
Name of the parameter : Value
I then entered the MIN and MAX date in the properties of my control DATETIMEPICKER.
I have also put into the properties Value a start date like 23/11/2011 12:00:00 ;
However, when i retry to link in the ApplicationSettings/PropertyBinding ... value to LASTSAVE / I have the same error (The Value '01/01/0001 00:00:00' is not valid for 'Value'. ). I've saved all, do a process that put a value in the datetimepicker.value, but it's not saved, cause not linked.

The program was originally written in VB2002, but now it's running in VB2008.The results of my program would typically be a ListView of 30 lines by 8 columns. I need to be able to save this data so that it persists after I close the program. There will never be a need to manipulate the data, so I'm looking for something simple. (There will be a need to print it.) I'm presuming that I need to link to a database to save the data. Correct? If so, can I use the one in Microsoft Works (which I already have), or do I need to get Microsoft Access, or is there some other better (simpler?) alternative?

Nov 5, 2009I've got a small reminder application I wrote in VB Express 2008. The main app autostarts with Windows and sits in the system tray all the time. Now, I need to save the time (sorta timestamp) it closes/terminates to a file. It works fine when the app is terminated by myself but doesn't when when I shutdown/reboot Windows. The code that saves the timestamp to a file resides in FormClosing event. But for some reason it doesn't fire or the code to save the file doesn't get executed when I shut down/reboot windows.
Is there a way, probably thru' Win API to register my app with Windows, so that windows actually waits for my app to terminate in a sane way after saving the data. I remember of reading about this possibility somewhere, I don't remember now.

Jun 2, 2010What I am trying tot achieve is the following:User inputs data in one form that saves to the dataset table no problems. On an edit screen I want the current data saved to appear in this page within all the relevant fields but when saving I want this data to add to the dataset table as an additional line of data so the transaction records are kept.I want to add a new datarow regardless of it saving one change or all 7 changes that are possble.
e.g. Line 1 - user inputs 7 cells of data Line 2 - user amends 2 cells of data Line 3 - user amends 1 cell of data an so on. Unfortunately the terminology for certain items above may not be correct as I am still new to this programming and still on a massive learning curve.At the moment I do not have the code for what I am trying to achieve as I really dont know where to start with it.I am currently able to save the data and have it appear in the "edit" panel however only the cells changed are saved an it overwirtes the initial input.

Dec 22, 2009Using VB 2008 Express, I've constructed a simple database type app for saving contacts. The table data I save at design time is always saved correctly but data entered at run time seems to get saved even after closing the app and VB. However, after restarting the computer, the newly entered data is usually gone. Why would this be? I've seen a few video tutorials on creating simple database apps and did everything they did and am getting the same problem. I thought it was a configuration problem so I actually re-installed Windows and VB 2008 Express (as well as 2010 Beta 2). I have noticed that in the database explorer, the .mdf file has a red x to the bottom right of the yellow database icon and when I click the + it seems to turn into a black plug. Is this normal?
