how can I make an app that knows when it crashed and why.I had some thinking, and came up with the idea that I'll have a separate process, working in parallel with my app, and looking after it, and know when and why it had crashed. Can I make my app know when an imminent crash is coming and dump unsaved user data, not to be lost?Let's say that I have an app, that need's "GoRun.dll" to work, but it isn't there, so my app will crash, but can I make my app run long enough to download the "GoRun.dll" file from [URL]?(or have a parallel process to do it, started by the original process, that downloads the "GoRun.dll" file and restart my original app)
I am making a vb.net program that calls several other subprograms. None of them effect the other. If there is an error in 1 of them, how do you record the error but continue on to the next subprogram with out stopping everything ?
is it possible to add some VB.net code to handle all the errors in my application. (and not to go in each sub and add the on error intruction) I want to handle every error.
I am using Visual C# 2010 Express and Visual Basic 2010 Express on my Windows 8 developer preview PC.Before, there was no problem, both VB and C# work fine. But today, both VB and C# can't handle errors. I have created a simple application with VB and C#. (.Net framework 4.0) the codes are here:[code]But visual studio shows the dialog shown in first image instead of this dialog. So, I can't debug my program. If I enable break exception when thrown in Exceptions dialog, the problem solves, but at that point, visual studio breaks on EVERY exception , even handled exceptions... I don't want to break on every exception...
I know this idea of - if message boxes are used to display error messages inside a .dll and when the .dll is installed in a different computer (possibly a server machine), errors occurring inside that .dll will be shown in the server and not to the user. Since practically there will not be a person near the server to click 'OK' to the error message every time it occurs it will stuck the programs using the .dll.
So how to write exception handling to a .dll project?
how do I handle the errors that may appear from the user of my program. For example, I have an triangle area program in wich I ask the user of the program to insert the length of the base and height of the triangle in a textbox. But what if he inserts a letter or something else, like a sign....my program will crash...
I know that one method would be to use On Error GoTo but I don't know how. If maybe you can direct me to some link or you could explain how do I handle errors, I would be grateful. Maybe you can even show me other ways to avoid errors from the user input.
This is my small program so far:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim , Height, ARIA As Integer
I'm trying to read rows in a DataGridView and the following error is thrown up. The DataGridView was filled from an Excel Sheet with a column of currency. Ideally when the For Next loop finds a cell it doesn't like, I want to to ignore and resume the loop. The error message is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
HTML
Try For Each row As DataGridViewRow In Me.DataGridView2.Rows FirstString = row.Cells(0).Value.ToString
The scenario is this: VB.net 2003 connecting to access 2003 using Jet 4.0 SP8 and MDAC 2.7 SP1.On a particular client machine with XP SP2, while trying to fill a dataset it crashes fantastically without ANY error message. the exe just disappears from the task manager.I use a Module to launch the MainApp form, if I try to connect within the Module BEFORE calling the:
Code: dim MainApp as new MainApp application.run(MainApp)
...the datasets work normally, but if I do it inside the Form_Load (or anywhere inside the form) it presents the previously mentioned fatal crash.I have updated the clients machine with the SP1 for .NET 1.1 with no luck. Now, in a desperate attempt, I have installed VB.NET 03 in the client machine and with the dev env it works fine, but if I try to run the executable from outside, it crashes again. No error message from the exception handling inside the app, no unhandled errors from the framework or the OS, it just vanishes from the task manager.I tried to reinstall MDAC and Jet but the installers find the previous files and won't update with the new ones. Tried also reinstalling .NET framework and the error persists.
In my project I am trying to capture frames from a camera and trying to retrieve the frame from memory and display the image (Resolution 1280*1024) in a picture box. while doing this I am getting an error stating as below: FatalExecutionEngineError was detected. The runtime has encountered a fatal error. The address of the error was at 0x7a064d34, on thread 0x188. The error code is 0xc0000005. This error may be a bug in the CLR or in the unsafe or non-verifiable portions of user code. Common sources of this bug include user marshaling errors for COM-interop or PInvoke, which may corrupt the stack. I am not getting what this error is. Can anybody please help me in resolving this error and display my image onto a picture box? I am posting the code below:[code]
I was having problems updating information in my SQL database using my vb.net application, but recently I found the solution. However now I have run into another problem which is shown in the code below:
Private Sub cmdupdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdupdate.Click Dim conn As New MySqlConnection Dim myCommand As New MySqlCommand '####### conn.ConnectionString = "server=" & frmLogin.txtserver.Text & ";" _ & "user id=" & frmLogin.txtusername.Text & ";" _ [Code] .....
The exception message is: Fatal error encountered during command execution. I don't know if this is simply a syntax error that can be fixed easily, or something to do with my database configuration.
Using connect1 As New MySqlConnection(ConnectLocalhost.serverString) connect1.Open() Dim cmd = New MySqlCommand("set net_write_timeout=99999; set net_read_timeout=99999", connect1) ' // Setting tiimeout on mysqlServer
[Code].....
All I want is for the program to just "continue" when this thing happen. But that seems to be impossible. So I guess I need a way to make sure this bug doesn't happen. It happens randomly eery 800 entries or so.
Looks to me the connection is forcibly closed by remote host. In that case, I simply want to go where things left on and restart again.
I have a .net application that uses customerrors web.config module to display meaningful messages for errors. It works without any issues for 500 errors/exceptions caused by non-ajax and ajax components (updatepanel). However, in a scenario where updatepanel's asynchronous request times out, there is no error raised at all. I was able to see the timeout in firebug and come up with a solution that would at least display the error message as an alert and then redirect the user to the 500 error page using javascript but it's not quite doing what the rest of the application does in case of an unhandled errors like these. I basically just want everything to go through "LogEvent" mechanism so based on the severity of the error, it does the necessary work. This 500 error page doesn't have anything in the Server.GetLastError() for these timeout scenarios. Is this an expected behaviour? Can it be changed so I do have access to these timeouts in Server.GetLastError() OR maybe just run this error through "LogEvent" mechanism? Is there a better/more graceful way to handle this issue?
Below is my code to give you an idea, not exactly what I have in my application but pretty close.
i turn on my computer and appear this " Ixdn MsdMon.exe-fatal error CLR error: 80004005 the program will now terminate" and the computer runs very slow
I wrote an application to handle a joystick with directinput. It works fine if it uses the handle of the main window but it doesnt happen the same if the handle is the one of the component that contains the joystick's operation.
I mean:
main form handle: 15
component handle (which is inside the window and the joystick needs the focus of this component to work): 25
It always work if the handle i initilizate the device is the main form (15).How can i use only the handle of the component?
So when i build or click debug on my program. No errors come up and its smooth. So i decide to publish my programme. However. I come up with a bunch of errors during the publishing.
Here they are:Error 1 Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 Simple CALC
Error 2 Unable to copy file "binReleaseSimple CALC.exe.manifest" to "binReleaseapp.publishApplication FilesSimple CALC_1_0_0_0Simple CALC.exe.manifest". The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
I am a newbie and am trying to open a table in SQL Server 2008 table from Visual Basic using ADO and its throwing up a weird fatal error. The error message is:'A fatal error has occurred and debugging needs to be terminated. For more details, see the Microsoft Help and Support web site. HRESULT = 0x80131c08. ErrorCode: 0x0' The code I am running at the time is:
I am writing a app in VB and get errors with inserting or deleteing records. I can do a try catch in by app, but I would like to know how to make the cryptic error messages that I get back from my tableadapter queries into messages that make sense to the end user.
Ex. ERROR [23000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_License_Vendor". The conflict occurred in database "AssetsSQL", table "dbo.License", column 'VendorID'. ERROR [01000] [Microsoft][ODBC
i get this big error whenever i run my program on another computer. Basicly it says im missing a dll. Is there a code that if there is a error i will just continue running insted of pulling up this window and saying .Net Framework Error.
i just started programming using DAO recordsets and almost everything works great, most of what I did is database stuff.including movefirst and other stuff like that. But when my boss came and deleted everything in the database and clicked on movefirst i got an error that says no current record. is there any way for me to trap that error
Dim AccessEngine As New DBEngine Dim db As Database = AccessEngine.OpenDatabase(DatabasePath) Dim dbs As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.Dao.Recordset = db.OpenRecordset("myTable",
I have the following asp:HyperLink which opens in ColorBox:[code]The above works fine if the Eval("album_name") is without space. The problem is when i have spaces the colorBox doesn't open. For example: delete_album_confirm.aspx?AlbumName=testing album cover& PhotoFilename=resized_ CIMG1426. jpg&AlbumID=41..Can anyone tell me how I can use spaces and still get this working?

I'm new to visual basic 2008 and have worked on this question for quite a bit before deciding to come to this website and asking for someone to walk me through it."Write a program that requests an amount of money as input and displays the names of all liquids for which a gallon could be purchased with that amount of money. The information in the (table 6.2) should be read from a file. As an example if the user has $2.35, then the following should be displayed in the list box: "You can purchase one gallon of any of the following liquids:Bleach Milk".[code]
