View 2 RepliesSo when i build or click debug on my program. No errors come up and its smooth. So i decide to publish my programme. However. I come up with a bunch of errors during the publishing.
Here they are:Error 1 Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 Simple CALC
Error 2 Unable to copy file "binReleaseSimple CALC.exe.manifest" to "binReleaseapp.publishApplication FilesSimple CALC_1_0_0_0Simple CALC.exe.manifest". The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
When I am building my web-poject it is successful and giving no error but when I check the Error list too many errors are showing. One more thing that when I am taking even empty events the error increases
Errors in Error List are:
Error 1 Name 'nserted' is not declared. C:Documents and SettingsVisual Studio 2005WebSi

I have a VB.net Solution in VS 2008 with 2 projects in it (The machine is running Windows XP Professional). I can build the one project fine. The other one the build keeps failing. Their are no errors in the code. I don't get any message when the build fail except, VS ask me if i want to run the last successful build. I have tryed cleaning the solution and then building and rebuilding it.
View 1 RepliesI finish to makethe forms and the code of my project, but when I try to make the executable file it shows errors about some forms that I created as test but I deleted so I wonder where I need to go to take them out and try to build again my executable smoothly?Example: Unable to open module file :'C:....CrystalReport2.vb': The system cannot find the file specifiedNote: That CrystalReport file was eliminated because I didn't need it.
View 2 RepliesAfter adding a string to the program from the resources the build always fails, and removing the string and the code to load the string does not solve the problem, as the build still fails. We've been using multiple versions of the program since this started happening with the most updated one, and adding the string is what started the failure in building even though we added other elements (like an exit button) and other forms without it failing. With the one that started with the build failures we've tried it on all types of computers and it does not manage to build on any of them, even one's with a new installation of Visual Basic Express 2010.
The exact line added that apparently makes the build fail is:
PictureAndInfo.infoBox.Text = My.Resources.StegmeierBreweryString
And the string added to the Resources isn't anything unusal compared ot the rest we have but it is this is:
The Stegmaier Brewery business began in 1857 when Charles Stegmaier first set up a shop. Since then the Stegmaier business has grown greatly. The size of their operation has grown from the original shop to the large building pictured to the left (opened in 1863 and purchased from Stegmaier in 1978). The Stegmaier Brewery Company was purchased in 1974 by Lion, Inc. and Stegmaier Beer is still produced today by Lion, Inc. and remains a popular choice among consumers.
The type for variable 'cri' will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of 'cri', of use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.cri' or 'MyBase.cri')I have created a class file with name Predefined which consists of this methods like cricket,BasketBall from this methos im returning List of string typeim calling that class in button click i As Integer = 0 To cric.Count - 1

I have an VB ASP.NET (.aspx) file that has deeply nested logic and I'm getting lots of build errors like "If must end with a matching End If" and "Do must end with a matching Loop". How do I begin to debug this beast to at least get it to build?
View 3 RepliesI'm making a project for school with a group of classmates. It is an application that needs to reference quite a few pictures and strings from My.Resources. I don't know what the problem is but, whenever I run the program, I get a message that reads this: "There were several build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?"
And then below in the Output:
----- Build started: Project: Wilkes-Barre Virtual Scavenger hunt, Configuration: Debug x86 ------
COM Reference 'WMPLib' is the interop assembly for ActiveX control 'AxWMPLib' but was marked to be linked by the compiler with the /link flag. This COM reference will be treated as a reference and will not be linked.
Is there a way to find what the error is?
View 5 RepliesI have a .net application that uses customerrors web.config module to display meaningful messages for errors. It works without any issues for 500 errors/exceptions caused by non-ajax and ajax components (updatepanel). However, in a scenario where updatepanel's asynchronous request times out, there is no error raised at all. I was able to see the timeout in firebug and come up with a solution that would at least display the error message as an alert and then redirect the user to the 500 error page using javascript but it's not quite doing what the rest of the application does in case of an unhandled errors like these. I basically just want everything to go through "LogEvent" mechanism so based on the severity of the error, it does the necessary work.This 500 error page doesn't have anything in the Server.GetLastError() for these timeout scenarios. Is this an expected behaviour? Can it be changed so I do have access to these timeouts in Server.GetLastError() OR maybe just run this error through "LogEvent" mechanism? Is there a better/more graceful way to handle this issue?
Below is my code to give you an idea, not exactly what I have in my application but pretty close.
Web.Config
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/Errors/ErrorUnknown.aspx" redirectMode="ResponseRewrite">
<error statusCode="500" redirect="~/Errors/Error500.aspx" />
</customErrors>

I'm trying to build an application to monitor a site to build statistics from the data being read. This HTML looks like this.

Now I can read the html and put the text anywhere, I just don't how to read specific parts so I can separate the data out.
I have a Form with a Media Player in it. Which plays a Song.

It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?
View 9 RepliesI have a vb.net 2008 windows form application that I was just assigned to work on. how to maintain and test changes to both the pre build and the post build events? Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
View 12 RepliesI have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
I was able to build both debug and release versions of my VB code before now I no longer have the option to build a release version. How do I turn it back on
View 3 RepliesI am writing a app in VB and get errors with inserting or deleteing records. I can do a try catch in by app, but I would like to know how to make the cryptic error messages that I get back from my tableadapter queries into messages that make sense to the end user.
