I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information. At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.
i running into an error when installing a windows service that i have created in vb .net. i followed the tutorial but i am getting an error. bellow is the log for the whole process until we get to the error. can someone please assist.
[Code]...
I created a simple windows service on my local PC and added the following code to it [code]...
Next I added a Setup project to this solution and added a custom action (By double clicking application folder then clicking add output folder then selecting primary output from the dialog). The solution builds fine but I have 2 problems.
1) Everytime I install the service, it asks me for the username, password and confirm password; I was wondering if there was anyway to get rid of it atleast while running locally. I tried setting the account type to user, local service, local system etc but it keeps popping up.
2) Once I enter the credentials (random ones), I get an error "No mapping between account names and security ids was done".
Error in installing Windows service using instllutil.exe in vb.net
View 10 RepliesI new to .net My project involves developing a windows service application using VB .NET. I have installed the service successfuly on the first attempt using the installutil provided by the frame work. When i uninstalled the application the it gave me the following result.
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service does not exist as an installed serviceAn exception occurred while uninstalling. This exception will be ignored and the uninstall will continue. However, the application might not be fully uninstalled after the uninstall is complete.
The uninstall has completed.
When i tried to install the app again it gave me the following error
An exception occurred during the Install phase.System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service already exists
I removed the application from the list of application event log entries in the registry(HKEYLOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesEventLogApplication) ant tried installing the app agin it installed successfully. Why is uninstalling the service not removing the entry from the registry.
The error was occured when i try install setup at window 2000.
Anyone know how to solve it?
i turn on my computer and appear this " Ixdn MsdMon.exe-fatal error CLR error: 80004005 the program will now terminate" and the computer runs very slow
View 1 RepliesI create Win32 DLL using vb.net (VS2005), for later use in vb6 application. I've try and it's workout (on my pc). I'm wondering if theres a way to distribute that dll files with my vb6 application, without installing net framwework on target pc.
If you wonder why i'm doing this, the answer The current application on target computer still using application that i've develop with vb6. My company have a plan to migrate to VB.net so i have to update a litle by litle so the old application still running until the new one (which i developed using vb.net) is ready to lunch. By the time new application running, my plan/target is i only update a minor change/installation.
When I run my compiled project, it creates a start menu folder and desktop icon. But there's nothing in the Program Files of my OS. Is it because my project is still small- or something else? Shouldn't it create a folder in the Program Files?Speaking of creating a folder- I need to create a folder on my C drive when the program is installed, and inside the folder an Excel spreadsheet needs to be deposited (C:DailyLogsDailyLog.xlsx).

In my project I am trying to capture frames from a camera and trying to retrieve the frame from memory and display the image (Resolution 1280*1024) in a picture box. while doing this I am getting an error stating as below: FatalExecutionEngineError was detected. The runtime has encountered a fatal error. The address of the error was at 0x7a064d34, on thread 0x188. The error code is 0xc0000005. This error may be a bug in the CLR or in the unsafe or non-verifiable portions of user code. Common sources of this bug include user marshaling errors for COM-interop or PInvoke, which may corrupt the stack. I am not getting what this error is. Can anybody please help me in resolving this error and display my image onto a picture box? I am posting the code below:[code]
View 1 RepliesAs you all know programs created in VB require the .NET framework to be installed on the end-user's computer, BUT when I create my ClickOnce deployment you would think that it would automatically include a .NET 4.0 setup for the end-user... it does not. I have tried creating all sorts of installers which install the Microsoft .NET folder onto the end-user's machine, or the actual .NET executable file. None of these seem to work, even in third party installation creators like InnoSetup. When I go through Microsoft Documentation like this: "How to: Install Prerequisites with a ClickOnce Application" all I get is something I've already tried and does not work.
I need everything in one large setup.exe file. I don't care if it is going to take up so space, as long as it is in one file and everything is embedded together.
How do I package the .NET 4.0 framework AND make it install WITH my VB.NET application IN ONE Setup.exe file? If this isn't possible, where can I find the Actual Files of the .NET 4 Framework?
I've done a vb.net program. The program basically uses few reference for example system.io etc.In order for my program to run on another computer, the computer need to have .net framework 2.0 installed.Instead of installing the whole framework, can I just pack the references I used in the program together with the vb.net program.? What packager/packer program should I use and how do I go about doing it..?
View 5 RepliesYou know, you see an agreement part when installing programs. I created a VB.net program and built a setup. Now, I want to add an agreement part in installation process that wants user agree the Terms of Use to continue the installation. How can I do that?
View 2 RepliesI was having problems updating information in my SQL database using my vb.net application, but recently I found the solution. However now I have run into another problem which is shown in the code below:
Private Sub cmdupdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdupdate.Click
Dim conn As New MySqlConnection
Dim myCommand As New MySqlCommand
'#######
conn.ConnectionString = "server=" & frmLogin.txtserver.Text & ";" _
& "user id=" & frmLogin.txtusername.Text & ";" _
[Code] .....
The exception message is:
Fatal error encountered during command execution.
I don't know if this is simply a syntax error that can be fixed easily, or something to do with my database configuration.
I am doing a regular update table scan
Using connect1 As New MySqlConnection(ConnectLocalhost.serverString)
connect1.Open()
Dim cmd = New MySqlCommand("set net_write_timeout=99999; set net_read_timeout=99999", connect1) ' // Setting tiimeout on mysqlServer
[Code].....
All I want is for the program to just "continue" when this thing happen. But that seems to be impossible. So I guess I need a way to make sure this bug doesn't happen. It happens randomly eery 800 entries or so.
Looks to me the connection is forcibly closed by remote host. In that case, I simply want to go where things left on and restart again.
My application runs using Framework 1.1. It runs perfect when the client PCs have Framework 1.1 (without SP).After installing Framework 1.1 SP1, Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 (and their Service packs), it gives a Nullreferenceexception error when adding a row to the datatable. This is the entire exception message

I have checked each of the values getting inserted and they all look fine. I even tried with values hardcoded but in vain. The patches cannot be avoided as they are pushed by our Corporate IT and we have no control over them.
I am a new Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and just finished and distributed my first program. However, one of my users (Using Windows Vista 64-bit) cannot install my program. He gets the following error An error occurred while installing system components for <PROGRAM NAME> Setup cannot continue untill all system components have been successfully installed. Component .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has failed to install with the following error message: "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install." Other 64-bit users on both Windows 7 and Vista don't have this problem.

I am deploying my application. As the .Net framework needs to be installed on the user's computer. Is it possible to pack the .Net framework into my executable setup.exe?
This will make my setup.exe big. However, the client doesn't mind.
Microsoft provide a plug-in for Visual Studio .NET 2003 that allows you to easily include the .NET Framework in your setup projects.
