I have a lot of files in my computer. Here is an example: C:Data3023e4rMarch_20113023e4r_03112011_062334.docC:Data3023e4rMarch_20113023e4r_03142011_092301.docUnder the folder March_2011 has a lot of doc files. The file name string 3023e4r is the serial number,03112011 - the date created,062334- time created.I'm planning to have a text box, where i could enter the serial number. then it will display the files under March_2011.I want the filename string to be displayed in datagridview column with their respective heading(SErial number, date, & time)

I am a new to visual basic 2010 and I am creating a small game program that will have players names and keep their scores in a text file. I placed the text file in debug folder for debugging purposes. The code below has been simplified for demonstrating purposes only.
I have a little GUI setup with a Listbox and a Richtextbox.I want the Listbox to display all of the .txt files displayed within a folder I have defined, then when a ListBox item is selexted, it displays the contents of that file within the RTB.
Simply put, I have a text file full of reg values. I want to search the text file for X number of reg values. I want to then, have those values and their dword values (whole line + next 3 to 4 lines in the file) listed in either another text file or an Excel spreadsheet. Regardless of the format, I would like to have the values sectioned off for each of the values searched (probably tables of some sort).[code]...
I need to browse a file and copy the file from one location to another. I am done with the file copying but I need to add the list of all files present under that folder in a control( dont know which control to use) and it shud be a link....so that when the user clicks that link it should open the file with that reader...
Suppose a pdf file shud be opened by the pdf reader.[code...]

I started with not knowing anything and I have built 2 programs over the last month and a half and have learned valuable information from the help of this board. I have 1 last hurdle before I am done and I am hoping to get another tip for this. First of all let me start by explaining what I have done.
how I would be able to make the click of a button scan a certain directory for certain files like .txt files, and display those files in a text box, or if not a text box some other viewer.
Am looking for away to have an area in the application window to display the open files and folders basically whats open on the task bar. Also if the above is possible is there away to have this clickable so if something is minimized it will open upon clicking it.
I'm working on a program where I've got a WebBrowser control that displays an HTML file from my 'Resources' folder. Like so... WebBrowser1.DocumentText = My.Resources.MyHTMLFile That displays the text from the HTML file just fine, but it does not display the CSS styles or images that the HTML file uses (even though I've added the CSS file and images to the 'Resources' folder as well).
I was wondering if there is a library or code snippet available for .NET (or that I can translate to .NET) to display animated PNG files (on the Graphics object, or even in a custom control)?
Im trying to create a program that can search files and display the amount of times that it has been encountered, for example it will show the number 4 because it will run into four instances of the word. Im kinda stuck on how to do this,
my knowledge of VB.net is limited and i'm really trying hard to figure this problem out...
what i did was create a list box and populate it with a directory ("C:Documents and Settingsuserfolder1")...
once the listbox displays the files from the directory, i want to select a certain file and that file will be opened up in a rich text box. What i found to display the directory in a listbox is:
Dim directory As New IO.DirectoryInfo("C:Documents and SettingsjtanDesktopRECV") Dim diar1 As IO.FileInfo() = directory.GetFiles() Dim dra As IO.FileInfo Dim files As String
To grab a specific file from a specified directory, read the lines and display them in a text box. What I want to do, is search for multiple text files in a specified directory, display each name in a Listview and, as I click on them, their info is displayed in the text box below.
I am new to VB.Net, but I can tell you so far I love programming. That said, I'm building a tool basically to parse and display simple plain text log files. I'm hitting one stumbling block that really has me frustrated.
Other tools are able to load huge log files (500MB even) in a number of seconds. My tool, basically hangs loading a file that is maybe 5MB.
I'm using the MyString = StreamReader.ReadToEnd to read the contents into a string, and then RichTextBox1.Text = MyString to display the contents. That said, I really want to display the contents in a datagrid, but there has to be a better way of doing this?
How can I get my application to load larger files and display them faster? What am I doing wrong?
I am trying to create a textbox that will display the total duration of all video files in a listbox. I am not using the windows media player in the project, I just want to show total duration of the listbox items. I have tried looking for snippets because I'm new to programming and I have also tried my luck at creating a class with no success. If anyone could show me some sample code or tell me what it will take to accomplish my goal it would be greatly apperciated. I am coding with Visual Basic 2010 express.
