I want to then, have those values and their dword values (whole line + next 3 to 4 lines in the file) listed in either another text file or an Excel spreadsheet. I'm using visual studio 2010 and sql server 2005 to store my data. I'm creating a system that will allow me to find/search for records that are stored within the database. Thing is, i have 2 separate forms for this - one is the find/search page which allows you to enter in as many fields as you want (the more you enter, the more efficient the search is) and the second one is the find/search results page which will show the results from the search.
I'm not using a datagrid as i've already created these forms myself. I'm on a tight schedule because i've spent so much time already trying to get this to work. Do i need to create another dataset and tableadapter and bind the text boxes? how will i code the find/search button so the search will be carried out and the results will appear in the other form?
I'm trying to make a form where the user enters a customers account info and then saves it to a file. the user should then be able to search for a customer by their last name and when it is found it display the customers info[code]...

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

On a image file (PDF), the OCR has recognised the picture and text. However on Visual Basics, how do you search for a text on this image file? The primary goal is to allow a text search (i.e POxxxxx) on all the image files (PDFs). The returns of the search will be the assciated image files where the text (i.e POxxxxx) is found on.

View 9 RepliesI am writing my own script for a simple calculator that determines if a number is prime, and its prime factors.[code]The loopcount = compare - 2 means I want the loop to be 2 less than the square root of the answer so that when do a descending calculation (loopcount = loopcount - 1) it doesn't see if 1 or 0 is a factor of the answer. for the calculations after that, I want, every time n1 = n2 (a whole number factor of the answer), I want to report those results to a text file (n2 and n3) in this format "(n2, n3)" then go to the next line. and continue to execute the loop until the loopcount is zero. Currently, when I run the code, the application closes when I click the prime button (button that runs this code) and I don't know why. This is my first semester in school, and have never coded before, so I am a definite laymen with code, but I really really want to learn it (hence why for fun im just creating algorithms for different things).

I am building a vb.net application with VS2010. The aim of the application is to change sln. files from VS2005/2008 versions into VS2010.I am using a Form with 2 text boxes and 2 buttons. When I click the 1st button it reveals the sln file in the text box. Then i have a 'convert' button that I want to use to 'convert' the file that appears in the first text box. I have come quite far with the source code but am just a bit puzzled as to how i can retrieve the VS2005 sln files and to get the 'convert' button to display the text in the 2nd text box.[code]

View 5 Repliesi'm currently making a client database program for work that stores data in multiple text files (so that the information won't be confused as to which info belongs to who in the database). Each client has his/her own text file, which isn't really a problem although i realize it's a bit messy. A listbox holds items, each item a person's name.When the listbox selected index is changed, the streamreader opens the corresponding textfile, which is as such: "John Doe.txt", and populates the correct textboxes with the information stored in "John Doe.txt".What I'm unfamiliar with is implementing a search function.
1. search query entered
2. streamreader reads through all txt files in a directory looking for matching keywords.
3. if a match is found in a txt file, it looks at the name ("John Doe.txt"), gets the corresponding listboxitem, and finally, once the textboxes have been populated with the info in the file, highlights the matching keywords.
4. then i figured if there was more than 1 match over more than 1 txt file, you could repeat the process and skip to the next match via the tab key (like the find feature of a WebBrowser or other such application).
What i don't understand is how to read multiple text files, search in keywords, highlight the matching keywords, or the tab function..I know that's a lot to ask on a forum, but I had nowhere else to turn.

I'm wanting to make a quiz app that reads the contents of a text file, with about 500 multi-choice questions in it. It is in the following format QUESTION NO: 1 This is the question, what is the answer?

B. Or this Answer
C. Maybe this Answer
D. Or this Answer
Answer: D
QUESTION NO: 2 and so on. I would like it to display the question number in say...a textbox, along with the question and the multi-choice. And then depending on user input, says correct or incorrect.
