How can we know folder is using some other program or thread? what if happen if two different threads are trying to deleting same folder recursively at the same time. how can we know folder is using or deleting some other thread before try to delete that?
View 1 RepliesI have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.

the first problem is getting my program to load rss feeds from other websites mostly here:http:[url..... im trying to load it using the webbrowser. i want the rss feed to load right onto the form. im positive that its possible. i have the imports system.net in my code already for xml documents.the second is i cant get my program to write into a file that is several folder deeper into the bin folder.[code]......
ive tried playing with the code moving around the folder names, making sure there capitals are correct, etc. but nothing works. it creates the file in the wrong spot.

View 6 RepliesI have been trying to fix this and make this work for pretty much three days now. I already solved one problem being, I can't use the shell on one HDD and create another file onto a different drive other then the drive that the directory of the application is running in.
EX:
If I run a program that is on the C: drive and using a working directory that is on the C: drive, I can not create a file onto the F: drive.
I got this problem when I was just using Shell(Environ$("Comspec") & " /c then the command")
So I decided to use Process()

I have a program that reads the version of a program off of a txt file in the program folder and off a txt file hosted off a site and compares them. If it's different it downloads the update, if not then you can use it. My problem is when I update it. It doesn't replace the version in the file. How would I update the version on the txt file in the program folder when it gets updated.

I have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.

I found one solution that , if change user rights manually then this problem solved.Follow these step to change your account settings.Control Panel-->User Accounts and Family Safety-->User Accounts-->Change User Account Control settings-->Never notify(Set tab to never notify).After this change need to restart system.Now can make all changes like windows XP into Windows 7.can also make changes into program files.
Its working fine, but need to make these changes manually in OS.but its not efficent solution. So if any one knows how can make these changes by coding that will nice.
i created a form with a combobox that lists out Assignments ( assignment 1, assignment 2, etc...)......what i need to do is let the user choose an assignment, then the program should look for the matching text file in a folder, ex: user picks assignment 1, and the program will read from assignment1.txt and display the result in a listbox.
