I am currently just starting to make a game. I used graphics to create the main menu buttons, but it doesn't have a click event. So what do I do to get it to do something when I click on it.

I'm new to VB, now working with VB 2008 Express Edition. Was once very proficient with "procedural" languages of the 70's (eg. Fortran, COBOL, etc), but totally new to OOP and the "Visual" languages. Despite being a quick study, eloping a user interface to a USB-connected infrared remote control device. The UI's graphical element (a "virtual remote") will be a PHOTO of the IR remote control device supplied by my target-equipment's mfr, OVERLAYED with functional software control buttons in their respective positions. "Pressing" a button on the virtual remote will cause the USB device to emit the desired IR code sequence.

They will do this over a background image so the buttons line up with images in the background.Without the background image, the buttons move smoothly and quickly. With the image turned on, the buttons want to move sloooowly and they drag. I made up this code just to show the basic function of what I am trying to accomplish.

I need to be able to add (specific) special characters to text boxes. Problem is, there are five of them spread across two forms and three tabpages. What I'd like to do is bring up a form when the user presses something like "F2" while the text boxes are focused, then on that form would be a grid of buttons. When the user pushes a button, the character is added to the box. How do I get this form to reference the box that called it without passing a global variable or calling a public function? I tried Form3.Parent.Name, but that always seems to refer to nothing. Also, once this is done how can I get it to just insert a character where the cursor on the calling box is? It probably shouldn't even be on a form either since that will take the focus when it's called (which I don't want)

View 1 RepliesI have a piece of software with two tabs, inside each tab there are buttons (the user can add the buttons when they want). when tab1 is full tab2 should start to fill. I currently know how many buttons fit on the screen so I just say something like if buttons > 150 then start to populate tab 2 The problem i have now though is if the resolution is changed then a different amount of buttons can be displayed. so if I put my screen to 1280x720 some buttons are left of. I was thinking of detecting the resolution and then using different cases for different resolutions but this seems very inefficient im wondering if there is a different way?

I want all the values of the textboxes (and the selection of the radiobuttons) to be stored in sql server. As far as the values of the textboxes in concerned, I managed to do it. So now I will try to make something more complex, still playing around with this graphics thing.I want a picturebox to display a tileset (a bunch of 32x32 tiles normally used for creating game levels etc), the picturebox is inside a container (which has autoscroll ON). The picturebox is larger than the container, so the container will make scrollbars automatically.Now, I need to be able to choose a tile or multiple tiles (if I click & drag the mouse)Basically I want to draw a 32x32 "red" box over each selected tile (so the user knows what tiles are selected).So first of all, I need to know when the mouse clicks the picture. Good. It works.Now, I need to know which 32x32 tile was clicked. Well, I think I can calculate that just fine.BUT, what if the user drags the mouse while clicking on a tile? I want to support multiple tiles selected, but I am clueless about tracking what tiles were chosen.If we solve that problem, I would have another curiosity: You know the "red boxes" that tell you which tiles are selected? What would happen if I dragged the scroll bar? I need the redboxes to move along with the picture, and hide if they go to an invisible area.

The problem is that i don't know how to make picturebox transparent. I searched the internet but all exaples didn't work. Does someone know how to fix this problem?
View 4 RepliesI am trying to incorporate in my vbdotnet application a form in which I would like to make a thumbnail from an image. So what I have is two picture boxes, one with the source image and the other with the destination image, I would like to crop the image from picture box 1 and display it on picture box 2, but the way I wan to crop it is not giving the coordinates of the selected area box but to simulate a selection area box in which the mouse can move the box and select the area of the picture to be cropped. This selection area box would give me the coordinates i need in order to proceed the cropping. The problem is I don't know how to create this selection area box. It is like doing the cropping on a graphic design software like Macromedia Fireworks, Adobe photoshop, even paint.

View 3 RepliesI come from using REAL Studio (formerly REALbasic)on the Mac + Windows.I just got MS Visual Studio and I am using the "Basic" language part of VS. in REAL Studio there is a property pane where you can select a button and make it the default button.I looked at the property pane in Visual Studio and couldn't figure out how to make one of my buttons the default button.
