I would like to create a text file with some data i am manipulating in a script component and write it to a text file. i know how to write it to an existing text file, but what i would like to do is create the text file programmatically so i can name it textfile(TodaysDate).txt.

I'm currently building an intranet engine for a project I've got on the go at the moment,and I'd like to save myself a little time by generating header images from code where possible, however, I'd like it to match our concept image.What I'd like to achieve is below:My issue is I've not the faintest how to create that from code. I can do the absolute basics but that's about it.I start to fall down when it comes to the gradient background and the drop shadow on the text. I can get away with positioning the text on the larger header image, so if it's not possible to generate the exact gradient I have there, then I have a work around for that, but what I really want to achieve is the text with the font and drop shadow.

View 2 RepliesI created a simple VB application in Visual Studio 2010.My computer, which I am using to create the program, is Windows 7 Pro, and SQL Server 2008 is running on a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, which I have full access to.
I want to click a button and have an SSIS package execute.I looked around on the Internet and found examples, but they do not seem to work for me.I try to add a reference, Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll, as a few sites advise, but it is not listed when I go to PROJECT>ADD REFERENCE.
I also type:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime but all I get is a squiggly green line, which when hovered over states "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'Microsoft.SqlServer .Dts.Runtime' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found." Below is some code I copied from one of the websites and pasted in my button click event (the path is correct), but a get blue squiggly lines under "Package" and "DTSExecResult":

I was wondering if there is any advantage to do everything programmatically instead of using design view to create forms, controls etc. Would there be any difference in size and/or performance after you compile it? So far I've been doing pretty much everything programmatically, specifying all the properties that aren't default for my forms controls but I am starting to wonder is there are any advantages to this, apart from making it easier (sometime) to manage and change the behavior of my controls.

I tried to Load a 8GB file with 60 GB Free Disk Space it Inserted 1658 records,Then I deleted SQL Logs and made space more than 100GBs free. For same file it inserted 60,000 records. I am not able to Understand how it happened and It have happened many times.
View 1 RepliesI have a textbox that i've bound to a dataset via the IDE.i've but when adding a new record i can;t populate it programatically, but the user can type data into. The follwing code doesn't put the required text in the textbox, but i can type it it while debugging:

this doesn't seem to make any sense - i'm adding new so i should be able to populate the textbox programatically, in the same way as a user can type in the textbox.I suppose i can bind the textbox programatically after adding the text, but this somewhat defeats the object of being able to databind via the IDE.

I'm trying to convert a DTS package to an SSIS Package. I have a very large text file about 4 million lines that I would like to separate into several small text files based on the strings contained in the first column of the text file. I want to open the large text file, choose the lines that apply, create a new text file with a name that has a number at the end of which will match up with the value in the first column of the text file. I want to then copy the applicable lines to the new small text file, save and close it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this after opening the large text file and using the readline method. What if the folder does not exist? Do we have to create it? I want this procedure to be general, as there could be up to 25 million lines in the text file.
View 13 RepliesI am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.
I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.

I'm creating a small vb.net application, and I'm trying trying to write a list of results from a listview to a text file. I've looked online and found the code to open the save file dialog and write the text file. When I click save on the save file dialog, I receive an IOException with the message "The process cannot access the file 'C: hethe.txt' because it is being used by another process." Here is the info i have in SQL: MIMEType is a string field that contains one of the following "application/pdf", "application/msword", "application/vnd.ms-excel" or a few others. DocumentBody is a text field that looks like "0M8R4KGxGuEPgADAP7/CQA" this continues for quite a bit. FileName is a string field that contains the original file name such as "test.doc" or "test.pdf"
