OP3 Client To Connect To Gmail And Download Messages
May 10, 2012I am using Peter Huber's POP3 client to connect to gmail and download messages.The inboxes being accessed are transactional inboxes used only for code-access. That is, a message comes in with a order file attached, code will process it and then delete the message. One stipulation of the code though was a DEBUG flag, which if set would prevent the code from deleting the message so that you can run the program again later without the debug flag and reprocess the message. So, in my code I have If Not Arguments.Debug Then pop.DeleteEmail(eid)
This works fine. Problem is, even when not deleting the message, running the program a second time will not re-retrieve the message, even though if I login to gmail and look at the inbox, it is still there. The only way I can get the program to see the message again is to forward the message back to the same inbox. But in Peter's code I do not see anywhere where he is keeping track of seen messages between sessions.
Is this something that is done on gmail's end? Refusing to deliver a message to the same client a second time? If so, is there any way I can change my gmail account so that it will always show all messages in the inbox to a client when retrieving the list of messages, even ones already "seen"? I don't see anything in the gmail settings screen.adding a method to send a RSET command to the server, as per this comment on the codeproject page.

Aug 14, 2009I'm using the TcpClient and TcpListener classes to read/write to the network when a request comes in on port 25. All I'm trying to do at the moment is make it so that my server program can receive SMTP messages from other SMTP servers. I've tested in Telnet - if I connect to my own IP on port 25 and type EHLO, MAIL FROM, RCPT TO, DATA etc then all works as it should and the details I entered are logged by the program (it doesnt do anything about delivering these details/email yet).all looks good... but then when I try and just send an email to my domain from my work account I can see that a connection is made to my program and the string "EHLO workdomain.com " is received by my program - my program responds to the remote SMTP server with "250-mydomain.com Hello" and then a CrLF and then "250-OK". After that point however, my app does not receive anything further at all from the server at work. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong with the data I'm returning when it sends EHLO but can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I was using telnet to test with, it seems that I have made it work only with telnet.In telnet each time I type a key the data is passed to the server, however with a real SMTP server it just sends each entire command in one go. So after altering my server a little I can now get it to respond with the 250-OK which I thought it already was doing.. but it still doesnt work. The remote server just sends EHLO and then thats it nothing more.Something interesting, at the moment I am ending all of my responses to the remote server with VbLf - if I change this to VbCrLf (which is what I believe it is meant to be according to the SMTP standard) then I get an infinite amount of empty strings sent to my program (or perhaps some other character that just shows as an empty string in intellisense when stepping through the code). Changing it back to just vbLf or ControlChars.Lf makes it go back to just sending EHLO and then nothing else..

Right now, I am using AES to encrypt the gmail password and store it. (the key is the MAC address of the system along with some hard-coded string.)
the security is highly compromised here.if anyone has access to the machine(thus the MAC address) and my source code(its open source), then he can get the gmail password.[code]...
actually my app will monitor the gmail account for mails over a period of time, so if I don't save the password the I'll have to ask the user to enter the password every time the program starts.

Aug 18, 2009I have a database that holds email addresses, and I want to send each one an email via a GMail account. My code works fine - the first email is sent and I receive it. I then navigate to the second email address, click the button, and, again, the email is sent just fine. Then I encounter problems. After sending two, if I try to send any more, I get an error telling me the operation has timed out? I have no choice then but to quit my application and try again - and it will then send two, before giving me the error.
