Using VB.NET and SQL Server 2005//In DataGridView n number of rows was displaying. Suppose I edit some value in the datagridview cell then I click save means it should update in the table also. Suppose I click add button means it should add a new row in datagridview.
View 1 RepliesThe code below updates all cells in a DataGridView column to a value from a textbox. This code works in that all cells in the desired column are updated on screen. The DGC is bound to a dataset. The problem is that when I call the dataset .Update method, sometimes the first row (row 0) does not get updated. I have run SQL profiler and can see that no SQL update command is submitted for the first row. The first row only gets skipped the first time the update is run after launching the app. Subsequent updates run for all rows, until the app is re-launched.
I have verified the row state is Unchanged with: Msgbox(DataGridView1.Rows(r).State.ToString).
The 2 commented lines below are other things I have tried that still cause the first row to be skipped.

View 1 RepliesIt seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

Am using the Entity Framework and Columns Completed and Taken are of bit Datatype. When the query results are displayed in the datagridview, these bit columns are returned as of ColumnType Textbox - so i get a Datagridview textbox column with true or false string values.
I want to display Completed and Taken as Checkbox columns (either ticked for True or un-ticked for false) but ofcourse i can't do this in EditColumn dialogue because the Datagridview is unbound.

Is there a way to find the column index of a datagridview column using the columns DataPropertyName?I currently use a loop (shown below in the class) which is kind of ugly, but it works. View 17 RepliesI have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

I am beginning to work with .NET technology after several years of VB6 and C++ and I want to learn as fast as possible.
My problem is with a DGV. It shows the prices of several store items, and I intend to let the user modify those prices by entering a % in a textbox (radio button states if that % is positive or negative) or by editing cell by cell manually.
As editing prices is kind of sensitive, what I do is loop through the DGV, add or substract the % engtered in the corresponding column and ask for a confirmation after whole DGV loop is done. If user agrees, DB is updated with new values. No problem here.
If user denies (in case he/she made a mistake), I restore grid's DataSource to a copy I made before calculating new percentages and this automatically refreshes my grid to its original state.
The issue is that if a user denies the operation for a 2nd time, this 2nd execution of the code fails at showing the original values, disabling the pseudo-rollback function.

If I try and use Row("FieldName") = DBNull.Value a 0 gets written to number fields (not sure what gets written to varchar fields.)
