How To Use Names As Enum That Are Already Used As Keyword
May 12, 2011
I am implementing the show-message extension found on this blog: url...the programmer makes clever reuse of his enum to build css attribuuts but in vb.net.[code]but visual studio keeps giving an error on the Error enum. Is there a prefix i can use to tell visual studio its ok to use error as enum ?
I'm trying to declare an enumeration and one of the names I'd like to use for an item is not usable apparently. Where I am declaring 'STEP = 3', I get this error message in visual studio: "Statement cannot appear within an Enum body. End of statement expected." Is it possible to use STEP as an item name somehow? [Code]
Which is better, using a nullable enum or adding the value None=0 to your enum list?Using nullables requires more code, but I kind of like it since it forces me to think about the possibility. Otherwise I'm liable to forget about the None enum and fail to account for it being a special case.
I have a DataGridView which populates from an SQL query just fine in default mode
using these table names [firstName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL, [lastName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL,
[code]....
I have edited the column headers and set the column names to the same values as my table names yet the data is not showing in form load I have set datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False I know the data is there if I delete datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False then the data is shown with the default headings?
I made project using VB.Net 2005 with multi languages, the first form is MDIParent form with MainMenu and toolbars also there is some changes in properties as righttoleft and text of forms.In my Mainmenu (Menustrip) there is opetion to change the UI Culture and I have already done but I need to change all texts in the form as mainmenu items anf form properties.My quetion is: how can I reload my form again to read the new texts names and mainmenu items names from resx file?
I am doing work for a client who has lost the source code for one of their VB.Net WinForms applications. The assembly they have is not obfuscated at all. I am trying to recover as much of the source as I can as C# source and have tried several tools for decompiling assemblies, including Reflector, ILSpy and JustDecompile (all the latest versions), but they all produce code with a huge number of errors in them. Because of the large number of errors in the generated code, I am going to ask about the specific errors (in different questions), get more directed answers and in this way try shed some light on why all the tools are having difficulty decompiling this assembly. This question pertains to the fact that the code generated by all these tools always have a large number of invalid member variables (fields) such as the following:
private short $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$nHeight; private ArrayList $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts; private StaticLocalInitFlag $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts$Init;
why the generated code has these invalid member variables?
Is there any way to get common control names like Save, Copy or Undo Redo in the user's windows language? (I saw this in some programs which weren't made for my windows language. Also the Yes No Massage Boxes will change...)
I am experiencing a problem when trying to convert a rather large VB6 application into a .Net 2005 application. Everytime I try to convert the project I get the following error: "Upgrade Failed: Exception occurred: Can't use character device names in file names"The weird thing is i have tried to convert the project using .Net 2003 and I do not get the error, it does convert.
Can an Interface contain an Enum?I am using asp.net 2.0. Suddenly my code started having problems when I added an enum to the interface below. In it, LookUpType is an enum.
Public Interface ILookup Property ID() As Int32 Property Text() As String
More for interest than actual need.is it possible to have an automatically decreasing enum in C# or VB.NET?
public enum testEnum { this = -1, that, other, }
So that that = -2 and other = -3.I'm pretty sure the only way to do it is to specifically assign "that" and "other", but I wondered if there was an automatic way of doing it.
Edit To be clear, I'm simply talking about the automatic assignment of the value, not the actual value of the enum decreasing.
I'm using vb but still learning it. Here is the question, I have following ENUM created so that i can use it all the form. I created this Enum on my main form (startup form) and want to use in another form.
Enum MyStatus Good = 1 Bad = 2 Normal = 3 End Enum
Now from other form I'm using it like frmMainmenu.MyStatus.red. I was wondering how i can make it public or create it in a way so that i don't need to give the prefix frmmainmenu before using its value.
Public Enum AssociateType ALL TIMED COMMISSIONED MANAGER INVALID End Enum
and I want to get a string based on the value of this enum:
Public Shared Function TypeToString(ByVal Type As AssociateType) As String 'Inputs: An AssociateType of the type of associate. 'Outputs: A string of the type of associate.
How do I do this C# statement in VB.Net (2005):MainMap.MapType =(MapType)comboBoxMapType.SelectedValue;MainMap only accepts Types so passing the Integer value of the type is not possible. The combo contains a list of strings:comboBoxMapType.DataSource = Enum.GetValues(typeof(MapType));In my case I need to limit the list to less than 100% of the Enum values so code similar to .Datasource= code will not work.So in general I need a way to return an enum given the name of the enum.Maybe I should just do a Collection of Enums (if that is even possible) and use the name as the Key?
I have a DataType (text, numeric, date, boolean, money) enum and I need to put that in a file. How should I call the file and where in my DataAccessLayer.Generic namespace should I put the file into? Right now the file is called enum.vb and is in theDataAccessLayer.Generic.DataTypes namespace. The Result is ataAccessLayer.Generic.DataTypes.DataType, but it is misleading because the file is called enum.vb
In vb.net, I got an Enum defined As Integer: Enum enUtilityTypeDetailStudentEntryWorkflow As Integer enUTDSEW_Default = 379
[code].....
This works but it adds a lot of noise to the code and it seems like the Enum is already defined as an Integer, making me think, why do I have to assign it again?
i have a list as an enum and when I want to select values as following, what is the best way to approach it
Public Enum ScanLocations station1 = 1 station2 = 2 station3 = 3 station4 = 4 end enum
So if i have "station2" as a value in a textbox etc, and I click a button 'next' then it will give me "station3"if i click 'previous' then it will give me "station1"
Protected Sub Menu1_MenuItemClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.MenuEventArgs) Handles Menu1.MenuItemClick End Sub
In VB.net, we have the Handles keyword, I'm wondering if C# has anything comparable. Or do you have to manually wire all the methods to each control's event (in ASP.NET especially)?
Possible Duplicate:Default value for generics k so while translating some code from c# to vb, i came across the default keyword, and I'm simply replacing it to nothing.
In my current project everyone names variables and methods after what they are and what they do. This is good for quickly understanding the code, but with a lot of long varible names comes some headaches, such as when copying a dataset to an entity/object. So, while you understand the code, the readability still takes a blow.
veryLongVariableName.Id = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Id veryLongVariablename.Something = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Something etc.
Using VB.NET's With keyword can help.
With veryLongVariableName .Id = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Id .Something = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Something End With
Now, my question, is there any way of using With, or something similar, but for several variables at the same time? Something like:
With veryLongVariableName As a, datasetVeryLongVariableName as b a.Id = b.Id a.Something = b.Something End With
I'm all for descriptive naming conventions, but they do tend to clutter things. Especially in VB!
I m trying to create a software in vb.net for some genealogists to trace their ancestors History, the users will search for the document in 3 ways
1. reference number from a combo box. 2. By the title of the document. 3. by inserting a keyword from the documents abstract..
i have already loaded the picture. i hav put all in one note pad my reference no., on next line i put my abstract and on the third line i put my path where the document is located.in coding i put all in different array.... making the program read all one by one line wise.i want to make search thru the keyword... means wen user inserts a key word in the textbox the program read all my abstract and then in a drop down it should display the documents that match the keyword.
