Feb 20, 2012I would like to make an enum of strings. There are several masks for text boxes that I would like to standardize in our system.For simplicity lets say there are 2 masks:
"PhoneNumber" which is "(999)000-0000"
"Zip Code" which is "00000-9999"
I would like to be able to reference these through out the entire program in a manner such as:
DefaultMasks.ZipCode or DefaultMasks.PhoneNumber
Since enums can not be of string type, what would your best suggestions be as to how I could do this. I had thought about a class with constants in it but I was not sure how to implement that properly.

I should be able to get result back as long as there's a match in the parameters. If I use Function Contains (q.FirstName & " " & q.LastName).Contains(employeeName), I will not get any result back if employeeName is "John Clark" Function Contains looks only for next words from left to right. It doesn't match a single word at a time. So that's why I used this in the Linq to SQL:

Parse Names In Strings
Jun 11, 2011I'm currently taking a class in VB 2008, with that said I am working with strings and had a quick question. I need to add code to parse the name when the user enters a name and clicks the Parse Name button, this code should work whether the user enters a first, middle, and last name or just a first and last name, before I get decimated by everyone, I am not asking anyone to do my homework because I already have a working solution to this, my question is to see if there is a "cleaner" or more "efficient" way to code this.

Replace ONLY If Text Matches Item?
Oct 24, 2009i have a listbox w/items. that when running code, the rtb, if it contains a listbox item, it replaces it.. no problem there..the problem i'm facing is that if i have the word "To" in the listbox, by using .contains, when running text in rtb, if i have "DeskTop" as a word in rtb, it ends up replacing the "To" in "DeskTop"..
i have tried the intellisense menu to the limit on finding something other than .contains to use in order to only replace if it matches exactly the item in the listbox. no luck. ;o/

Oct 28, 2009I'm trying to find a good way to parse through text and only get certain matches, like say someone puts the text "My name is Bob" in a textbox, then it puts the text "<Tag>My name is Bob</Tag>" in another textbox, and my problem is, if that person were to put..."My name is </Tag> Bob" in the textbox, when the RegEx match is found, you would only get "My name is" as a match. So how can I make sure that the text input no matter what it is will not interfere with the <Tag></Tag> when using the RegEx:

Mar 13, 2009I am trying to make a basic ATM system, iv got all the interface done and I have made the link to my SQL database etc. the part i'm stuck on is how I can run a check to see if a bank card number matches up to the users PIN number. To simulate the user putting a card into the machine I've used a combo box, and that lists all the cards, that haven't been flagged as confiscated (there's a column in my ATMCards table that I can set to true or false) then after the user has selected a relevant card there's another text box where they can enter in their PIN number.
Now what I want to do is, if they chose the card number 1234567890123456 in the combo box and they enter in the PIN 1234 into the text box, then, after clicking the check PIN Button if the pin is correct they need to be taken to another from where they can check their balance etc., and if its wrong they got three attempts after which point i want to flag that card as confiscated.

VS 2010 If String Matches Word In Text File?
Jul 24, 2010I'm trying to integrate a parental controls feature on my webbrowser. Now, the user creates a text file containing a list of the words they don't want their child searching. Here's an example of what would happen. The list looks like this (I wont use vulgar words):
dog
cat
baby
fish
tree
and the kid tries going to "treeandbabynectar.com". I want a messagebox to come up saying "Site blocked". I want it to be able to detect the tree and baby in treeandbabynectar and realize the text file contains the word tree and baby and block the site. Is this possible? How would I do this?

The text is black. then, i have a button which calls the dialogue "Notes" A dialogue appears, with a rich text box. the user should then be able to enter text into the box, click "OK", and the text entered into the Notes dialogue be inserted to the rich text box on the main form -- with the font colour "Red". The rest of the text in the main rich text box on the main form should remain black.

So I would only need to check if the numeric field in textbox matches the two numbers in the second column. In the past I have use System.IO.File to create/delete/append to files but I havent come across anything like contains.
Enum Item - Protected Name - Statement Cannot Appear Within An Enum Body

Jan 20, 2011I'm Making a Simple syntax highlighter and I'm Doing the highlighting in the text Changed event of a RTB and for obvious reasons I can't re highlight the whole document each time someone presses a key so i highlight one line each time the text changes. But this creates a Problem. If someone pastes code into the RichTextBox It only highlights the last Line. So is there a way to get if the user typed the text in with his keyboard or pasted it from the clipboard in the text Changed event?
