VS 2010 - Checking If Numeric Value Matches Two Numbers In Text File
May 14, 2012
I have a textbox which has a numeric value that changes - would it be possible to check if that value matches two numeric values in a text file? and if the value matches then to display some text in a label? The textfile only has fields displayed like so
Horizontal 55
Vertical 16
So I would only need to check if the numeric field in textbox matches the two numbers in the second column. In the past I have use System.IO.File to create/delete/append to files but I havent come across anything like contains.

best way to check if a textbox has only 4 numbers and isNumeric, for example i need to enter postcodes.I currently have:
If CDbl(txtPostcode.Text) <> 4 Or Not IsNumeric(txtPostcode) Then
MessageBox.Show("Postcode must be 4 Digits", "Error")
But the message box comes up regardless of whether there is 4 numbers, letters, or anything in the textbox. Its also used in the leave function of the textbox.

I'm trying to integrate a parental controls feature on my webbrowser. Now, the user creates a text file containing a list of the words they don't want their child searching. Here's an example of what would happen. The list looks like this (I wont use vulgar words):
dog
cat
baby
fish
tree
and the kid tries going to "treeandbabynectar.com". I want a messagebox to come up saying "Site blocked". I want it to be able to detect the tree and baby in treeandbabynectar and realize the text file contains the word tree and baby and block the site. Is this possible? How would I do this?

I have encrypted a string to something like this:
1. Asak2$)kla1015QAXKFskfa332aSJ2(Ska@Skljcmcel3p.lq,aowpqaskla2@)Skx.:Pdm^),dfs;
what i want to is convert this string to something like this
2. JXK2LB AP2WXB S1P0XE ZXPA3H X1LAKW DOXPS3
both 1 & 2 the above strings are fictitious (i made them up to make my point clear)
I am trying to make a licensing system for my VB 2010 express application. (2) above will act as a serial key which can be derived from (1) which is an encrypted form of something unique of the client computer.
I will then confirm the (2) from the client.

With all the smarts of actually loading images being done by the .net framework, seems like I shouldn't have to repeat it all in my code by checking for magic numbers, or using a hack like this:[code]Am I missing something obvious, like System.Drawing.IsImage(stream)?

If Val(fnumField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or fnumField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(phnField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or phnField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(ophnField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or _
ophnField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(treeField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or treeField.Text.Trim = "0" Then

Is there a numeric text box, not an up-down box, a SIMPLE numeric box into which the user can place a number, 5 boxes actually, then on command have the five boxes added and the sum displayed?

I have a textbox that acts as a password field. It is supposed to contain a value at least 8 characters long and not greater than 12 characters in length. I need to construct an if statement that checks to see if there is at least 1 numeric character in the string and at least one letter in the string.

I only want to place the numerical data in an array. At the moment I have the following code to do this. [Code]. This code places the numbers in the data array when there is not any text in the file, i.e. when there are no headers. I would like to place the headers in another array, and then have the numbers in the array as in the code above.

I'm working on a program for a side business I run with a friend, who is a non-programmer.I've done a program before, using IO.StreamReader and IO.StreamWriter to read and write lines to a text file.
But now, I'm working on reading text data (it's output from an old legacy program) that reads a first and last name, and the customer number (6 digits) from one file.
Then, it uses the data (customer number) read the first time to cross reference the zip code and status from a second file, and display it.
The Data in the Text Files are as follows:[code...]
How would I begin parsing for the first and last name, and the customer number to assign to different variables?In the line that references names.txt I meant to put customers.txt.
That's a snippet of code I took from a previous program, so I know how to read the data, just don't know how to extract it.

I read a csv file into my .net program using ado.net and display it in a datagridview.In the file I have two rows. The first column is a component id, and it is supposed to be numeric. But the user can edit the csv file before having my program load it, and accidentally put text there. That is something I want to edit when he presses a button to add the data to the database. So let's say he puts a value of A in the first record and a value of 1 in the second record. Or vice versa. What is displayed in the dgv is a blank in the first record and a 1 in the second, or 1 in first and blank in second. If both csv records are A, then what is displayed in the dgv is an A in both the first and second records. I don't understand what is happening. The fact that there sometimes is a numeric in the column makes it think it is a numeric field and therefore only display numerics and blank otherwise, and the fact that there's always text in the column makes the code know it is a text field?

I used a regular expression, which handles both numbers and letters in strings of arbitrary length, in one line of code.
dim rtn as String = Regex.Replace(input, "..", "$& ")
I'd like to take numeric strings of arbitrary length and insert a space every 2 characters.
So 1233456 becomes 12 33 45 6. Is there a way I can use format as string or IFormatProvider, like? That would put a limit on how long the string could be though, right? Since I'm casting to a long.
CLng((input)).ToString("## ")
I'd like to take strings of arbitrary length and insert a space every 2 characters.
123dssas4rr should become 12 3d ss as 4r r

I have an issue in VB6 that is giving me a major headache. When using a variable defined as a single data type, VB6 will add random numbers to the number i assign to it.
For instance I have a single variable that is manually set to 0.3. Then i create another single variable and set it to 0.25. I have the program add 0.01 to the second variable until it equals the first. But they never equal. I couldn't figure out why when both were showing they equaled 0.3.

I'm writing a program for my class, which pretty much is an energy cost calculator. It takes 4 inputs from 4 text boxes and multiplies them, and the result is the cost. Well, now I have to come up with a way to check for empty text boxes and display a prompt to enter a number. I've tried inserting multiple codes to display a prompt and to no avail nothing has worked, I also receive the error "when casting from a number, the value must be a number less than infinity" error.

I am having dificulties taking a datagrid cell value stored in the following location (datagridVNTPSorted.Item(15), irow).Value) into individual digits to reassign values for counters.
The cell in the datagrid (Listed Above) contains a number between 1 and 5624. I have 4 different counters. If the number was "2856", the counters would need to be updated as follows:
intdirectoryCountDigit1 = 2
intdirectoryCountDigit2 = 8
intdirectoryCountDigit3 = 5

I have a string I want to parse. I could write the code to do so, but I figured that VS.NET has a parser that should do this for me.however, I can't find it. All the searches I do return info on how to parse numeric values in string form into real numbers. It would be nice if the MSDN search had some ways to allow users to enter more details than just search text and 3 ways to filter out irrelevant stuff. In any case, I also tried things like string.parse (nope - although I kinda figured this would be it.) I also looked at Enum.parse, but the code indicates that it works with arrasy of items, not strings.

what the following code is ment to do is generate a bunch of numbers between 1 and 49 using the while loop to check if two of these numbers are the same. Problem is two numbers are still being generated the same and I know that the numbers generated again will not match them originals so it stops the loop.

Can I set this function so that if the local settings.txt exists, it will NOT be overwritten unless the mapped file is newer?

Currently modifying a program that is being used by several staff. Each time they restart it, it starts the latest build.
I have a settings.txt file that is needed for the latest build(not on all pc's yet, original version has the settings written in the code) and updated as needed.
If local PC doesn't have settings.txt, it is copied, if it does have settings.txt it gets overwritten by the mapped copy on each run.
Wanting to let users keep their 'personalized' local settings.txt, unless I add a new feature to the program that requires a change to the mapped settings.txt file.

I'm realy green when it comes to programming but I like to think I am learning quickly. However, I cant figure out how to generate a number of random numbers baised on the vailu of a numeric slider. So for example I am generating a number between 1-12 where each point of value for the slider would generate an indiigual number that can all be added to a final total. I would also like to be able to back the slider down to a previous number and have the same total I had last time I was at position x. This is what i have so far:

I have this:
dim nmbToCheck as Double = 15.22
dim nmb1 as Double = 12
dim nmb2 as double = 18
How do I check wheter nmbToCheck is between nmb1 and nmb2? I know I could use < and >, but the problem is that I won't be knowing which of the numbers will be smaller, and which will be larger, and it seems like a lot of code to write for such a small issue. There must be some sort of nmbToCheck.IsBetween(nmb1, nmb2) type solution to this, right?

I thought that this would be an easy way of checking if the txtBox only contains numbers. I was wrong.
if txtAnswer.Text = Not CInt("123456789") Then
I want the user only be able to put NUMBERS in the box. NO Spaces Commas Periods Breaks ... etc.
PS, i can't use NumericUpDown as the user needs to enter in the answer to an equation.

i have a listbox w/items. that when running code, the rtb, if it contains a listbox item, it replaces it.. no problem there..the problem i'm facing is that if i have the word "To" in the listbox, by using .contains, when running text in rtb, if i have "DeskTop" as a word in rtb, it ends up replacing the "To" in "DeskTop"..
i have tried the intellisense menu to the limit on finding something other than .contains to use in order to only replace if it matches exactly the item in the listbox. no luck. ;o/

I'm trying to find a good way to parse through text and only get certain matches, like say someone puts the text "My name is Bob" in a textbox, then it puts the text "<Tag>My name is Bob</Tag>" in another textbox, and my problem is, if that person were to put..."My name is </Tag> Bob" in the textbox, when the RegEx match is found, you would only get "My name is" as a match. So how can I make sure that the text input no matter what it is will not interfere with the <Tag></Tag> when using the RegEx:
(?<=(<Tag>).+?(?=(</Tag>))

I have some coding which displays a label if the value of a textbox matches the first value of each line in a textfile.
Dim sList As New List(Of String)(IO.File.ReadAllLines("Path"))
Dim i As Integer
For i = 0 To sList.Count - 1
[Code]...
The problem is if the textbox has 1 and the textfile has 11 it will display the label, what would be the best way around this?
I have tried sList(i).Contains etc but none of them are doing the job.
