Dec 4, 2009Novice VB user, trying to create a pop up msgbox upon opening a file, whereby the user selects from a list (of available options), the choice then gets entered directly into a cell reference. I have seen this before and know that it's primitive programming but i'm still a learner.

Jan 5, 2011I've got an unbound DGV with several columns that I am programmatically adding rows to. All working fine, apart from when I try to set a really long string in one of the cells, then that cell just appears blank. The string IS in the cell because if I select the cell and do this:

then the string gets copied to the clipboard and I can paste it into Notepad or whatever without a problem. So it is just purely a display issue... but it doesn't seem to make any difference if I resize the cell (horizontally or vertically) and I can't understand why it is doing this.

VS 2010 - Combining Multiple Records And Doing Calculations
Jun 28, 2010I have a database (SQL Server 2008) with multiple tables and records. 1 Table contains all kinds of invoice items, which have a unique id, Client ID and invoice number.
My goals is as following:
- I want to show the invoice items in an datagrid, all merged as 1 invoice item (showing date, total without VAT, total with VAT, VAT percentage, VAT value and if the invoice has been paid or not.)
- The datagrid should only contain the invoices for a specific client.
- Should add up totals (Amount paid, Amount not paid, Amount Overdue, Total Amount)
- Should be withing specific date range.
Everything in this table has been saved as varchar except invoice id and unique.
VS 2010 : Reduce The Default Padding/text Offset Of A DataGridView Cell?
Apr 28, 2010By default, the DataGridView padding (.ColumnHeadersDefaultCellStyle.Padding and .DefaultCellStyle.Padding) is set to 0 (zero). However, when you run the application and look at what's in the DataGridView control, there is default padding of 3 pixels (Left) in the data cells and a default padding of 7 pixels (also Left) in the header cells. I don't seem to have any control over these 3 and 7 pixel offsets. For Top, Bottom, and Right, there are similar or greater pixel offsets that I also don't seem to have access to. I want to be able to specify exactly the pixel offset I want, assuming a default pixel offset of 0 (not 3 and 7).

May 14, 2012I have a textbox which has a numeric value that changes - would it be possible to check if that value matches two numeric values in a text file? and if the value matches then to display some text in a label? The textfile only has fields displayed like so
Horizontal 55
Vertical 16
So I would only need to check if the numeric field in textbox matches the two numbers in the second column. In the past I have use System.IO.File to create/delete/append to files but I havent come across anything like contains.
VS 2010 Gradient Color Text Tool - Strings And Numbers
Jun 11, 2011I am making a gradient colored text tool for a game I play where they use a 3 digit number as an RGB color code before text. Making gradients by hand is tedious, as to do a gradient you type one letter at a time with an RGB code that changes by 1 in front of each letter.
example: "^090H^190e^290l^390l^490o" Would be a color gradient for Hello
I have a user input text into a text box and choose up to 6 colors. The colors then are assigned RGB values, only instead of 0-255 they are 0-9. (So they look like this 000=black 999=white 090=green, etc.)
I have figured out how to do this, but now I need to place the RGB values in front of the users text while only changing one of the RGB numbers at a time.
So if the color values are 090 and 900:
"090 190 290 390 490 590 690 790 890 990 980 970 960 950 940 930 920 910 900" is what I would like generated with the users text spaced evenly between.
I have no idea as to how I would go about putting three digit color codes between the users text or how to change the color codes one number at a time. I could try to do this on my own but it would be sloppy and probably a lot more code than needed (I have a feeling I should be using a loop or something like 'for each')... It's been awhile since I opened VB!
Datagrid New Row Cell Validation - Validate Empty Text And Indicate Error On Cell?
Jun 1, 2010The problem is that if you never enter anything into a cell for a new row then that cell is never validated. This is a problem because I have columns that should not be null. I am doing the check in the row level validation and storing the information about which cells are empty that should not be empty. The row level validation works fine and the row level validation error indicator goes on,(red exclamation mark at the beginning of the row) but I also need a visual indicator on the individual cells that are in error.
I am thinking that setting the HasError property for the cells that are in error should cause them to display n error style (the default red border). Is there a way to this this either from XAML (perferably) or from code?Alternatively I could cause those cells to re-validate when the row editing is finished. Does anyone know how to do this?

Well, I am adding a history to it and it allows the user to see the last 50 records searched. They get a grid showing the records. This, thus far, works perfectly What I want to do is this: I want to select a record (A cell) in the column 'Dog and have the text of that cell appear in a textbox. This is what I've tried with no success.

Box - Conversion Error - User Enters 6 Numbers In 6 Different Text Boxes - Displays The Larger Of Those 6 Numbers
Oct 4, 2011I am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.

This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.

Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.

I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.

Oct 17, 2010I am having dificulties taking a datagrid cell value stored in the following location (datagridVNTPSorted.Item(15), irow).Value) into individual digits to reassign values for counters.
The cell in the datagrid (Listed Above) contains a number between 1 and 5624. I have 4 different counters. If the number was "2856", the counters would need to be updated as follows:
