Parse Names In Strings

Jun 11, 2011

I'm currently taking a class in VB 2008, with that said I am working with strings and had a quick question. I need to add code to parse the name when the user enters a name and clicks the Parse Name button, this code should work whether the user enters a first, middle, and last name or just a first and last name, before I get decimated by everyone, I am not asking anyone to do my homework because I already have a working solution to this, my question is to see if there is a "cleaner" or more "efficient" way to code this.

Parse Variable Names And Operate From String?

Jun 10, 2011

I'm using a Microsoft Word form template to create objects in a form programatically, so depending on the information read by the program from the template.

So, I've got some fields where I store formula data for the form, in which I specify that the value for that field is obtained by multiplying other fields in the template. So I store in the string something like this:

"Text1.Text * Text2.Text"

So I need to convert these string values into variable calls to actually operate these values.

Is It Efficient To Use LINQ To Parse Strings?

Mar 18, 2011

I've been using LINQ so much in the last couple of weeks that when I had to write a one line function to remove < and > from a string, I found that I had written it as a LINQ query: [code] My question is, is it better to do it with LINQ as above or with StringBuilder as I've always done, as below: [code] Both work, the second one is easier to read, but the first one is designed for executing queries against arrays and other enumerables.

Extract Specific Texts From Parse Given Header Names

Feb 6, 2010

I have a parse from Wikipedia saved in a text file in the following form: The town itself is situated to the south-east of the rock, and overlooks the Palaia Monemvasia bay. A small hamlet with about 10 houses lies to the northwest.The founding of the town and fortress of Monemvassia most probably occurred in the 6th century AD. The town was founded in 583 by people seeking refuge from the [[Slavic peoples|Slavic]] and the [[Eurasian Avars|Avaric]] invasion of Greece. From the 10th century AD, the town developed into an important trade and maritime centre. The fortress withstood the [[Arab]] and [[Normans|Norman]] invasions and conquests in 1147. Cornfields that fed up to 30 men were grown inside the fortress.What I need to do is to extract specific texts from the parse given the header names. For example, if I type in a textbot Geography I need ONLY the geography text returned.

[2008] Parse A Large Text File For Certain Strings

Feb 22, 2009

I am trying to parse a very large text file for certain strings. The text file is part of a level-making software for an old game I play. The text file basically contains all the information the level designer software needs, but the only important bit is the 'texture information'. Basically what I'm trying to create is a little program that parses the text files and shows the user a list of every texture in that text file. The problem is, the strings denoting textures are not really easy to find, and I can't think of any sensible and fast way to get them...

The user should be able to move between all the values entered using NumericUpDown.

C# - Parse An Expression And Retrieve A Parse Tree?

Jun 8, 2012

I just want to parse simple expressions like IIF(FVAL(PFC) = TRUE, (IIF((ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") + ORGVAL(DA)) < 6500, (FVAL(BAS) + FVAL(DA)) * 12%, 780)), 0)`After parsing this I should be able to know what functions contains what parameters.

[Code]...

I'm stuck with .Net Framework 2.0, so no Linq or lambda expression goodies for me. Also I want to include the code in my custom library and not just reference it. Can anyone point me to some good library or code.

I just need to parse and not evaluate the expression and find what tokens are in use. After finding the tokens I need to change the expression string before parsing, like if the function ORGVAL is used then the parameter passed has has to be prefixed by an underscore. Like ORGVAL(BAS) will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS). Some functions can have tow parameters like ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") and this will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS, "2012/12/31")

NOTE: IF THERE ARE OTHER WAYS OF DOING IT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WOULD LOVE TO AVOID A PARSER AND LEXER.

C# - Decompiling .Net Assembly Produces Code With Invalid Member Variable Names; Names Starting With $STATIC$?

Sep 5, 2011

I am doing work for a client who has lost the source code for one of their VB.Net WinForms applications. The assembly they have is not obfuscated at all. I am trying to recover as much of the source as I can as C# source and have tried several tools for decompiling assemblies, including Reflector, ILSpy and JustDecompile (all the latest versions), but they all produce code with a huge number of errors in them. Because of the large number of errors in the generated code, I am going to ask about the specific errors (in different questions), get more directed answers and in this way try shed some light on why all the tools are having difficulty decompiling this assembly. This question pertains to the fact that the code generated by all these tools always have a large number of invalid member variables (fields) such as the following:

private short $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$nHeight;
private ArrayList $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts;
private StaticLocalInitFlag $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts$Init;

why the generated code has these invalid member variables?

Prepend A String To All Strings In A List Of Strings?

Aug 5, 2010

I have a list of strings. For each string in that list, I want to prepend another string. I wrote a method to do it, but I was wondering if there was something already in .NET I could use to do this. It seems like something that could be built in, but I was not able to find anything.

Here is the method I wrote:

Private Function PrependToAllInList(ByRef inputList As List(Of String), ByRef prependString As String) As List(Of String)
Dim returnList As List(Of String) = New List(Of String)
For Each inputString As String In inputList
returnList.Add(String.Format("{0}{1}", prependString, inputString))

[code].....

It works, but I would rather use built in functions whenever possible.

VS 2008 Using List Of Strings Or Array Of Strings?

I'm migrating from VB6 to VB.NET, in hence my questions below:

I have to write a function that returns array of strings.

How can I initiate it to empty array? I need it since I have to check if it's empty array after it returns from this function.

Is list of arrays better for this purpose? If I use a list - Is it empty when it firstly defined? How can I check it it's empty?

Find Strings Inside Strings?

Aug 15, 2011

I have been looking for examples to find the string between two strings. This top one works fine;

Public Sub ReadData(ByRef keywordStart As String, ByRef keywordEnd As String, ByVal filename As String)
Using reader = New StreamReader(filename)

[Code].....

Now the first one is fine - Ext_Volume is result of the string between the strings <Volume> and </Volume>. <Volume> and </Volume> are unique so this is straight forward.

However the second one - "^FDExp:" is unique, but "^FS" is not unique. There are occurances of "^FS" before and after "^FDExp:".

How do I get the string to search AFTER the occurrence, not before etc?

DataGridView - Convert Nulls To Empty Strings And Display It In The Grid As Empty Strings

May 14, 2009

I have a DataGridView that has some columns with dates. It binds to an in-memory Datatable which gets loaded from an string array of data passed back from the backend Some of the rows returned have nulls for the date columns. Solution 1: If I define the Date column in the DataTable as "string" I can easily convert those nulls to empty strings and display it in the grid as empty strings (desired results). However, if the user clicks on the date column header to sort by date, it doesn't order the rows as you want. You get a purely string sort order. Not acceptable

Right now I have only allowed the XML to have up to four values in a certain node, I would like to allow more but I will need to increase the Select Case function.[code]
