I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen. The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.

I have files that start with unique numbers and are word documents. Say the document starts with "1234567" is there a way to make the OpenFileDialog filter to where only all the .doc files that start with "1234567" show up?

I am converting an old Vb6 solution to .net 2.0 in vs2010. I've been working in C# for about 3 years now and .net for 5. I don't recall having this problem in C#, but if I want initialize a readonly collection of DerivedControlFoo Is there a clean way to do it besides creating a sub to do it all off somewhere else? I'd love to be able to do it at the class level at the declaration for readability and simplicity.

A user places the cursor in a table cell and clicks on "Table > Background Color" to edit the current background colour.Currently I have been able to detect the current colour (for instance a light blue) and set that colour in the ColorDialog (Colour swatches are correct and RGB values are correct). What I would like to do is enable the user to click on the "Add to Custom Colors" to save the colour. Problem is, it sets the first square in the custom colours area (which happens to already be filled in with another custom colour), rather than finding the next square that is white and set it there instead.

I've created a component whose name I'd like to be able to change while editing in the component tray. I've added a Designer action for a name property, but now I'm stuck.
Looking at the property grid, I can see that the name property is parenthesised, indicating that it's not a regular property.

i am working on a virtual make-up software and the only thing i lack to totally finish it is the lipstick part. is there a way that i can trace the edges of the lips of the picture that im editing and fill its insides with colors from a colordialog that will serve as if it applied a lipstick. just like what they have on jkiwi that users will jut trace the edges of the lips and then the color will automatically be filled out and it can be changed by choosing a color in a dialogbox.

I have a list of colors i.e.: "1323523, 12342, 2354, 356234, 234234"Each of these numbers stand for a color. I would like it so that when there is colordialog.showdialog, this list of colors shows up in the colordialog custom boxes. This is how i am doing it currently, but for some reason the customcolors are not being added. i know for a fact that my array is good because i checked it.

If you are working on a project that requires non-standard colours for text, it is possible to choose your colour by specifying the RGB components in the boxes on the colorpicker or by moving the mouse around until the desired colour is obtained. This can be put into one of the custom colour boxes and used until the program is shut down. Is it possible to save that colour to the custom colour box so that the next time the project is run, the chosen non-standard colour re-appears in the custom colour box?

I im trying to find out if it's possible (using VB.net 08 Xpress) to create an application running solely out of the system tray, no forms - Just the icon and popup notifications.I have been considering building a tray based monitoring system for some time, and while I can get the code to work fine, I still need the thing to start up silently. Using Me.Hide() on Form load doesn't work, and I really don't want to work around using the start-up form as a splash page.I have also looked at making a module, but standard vb.net code just aint doing the job.

I have a problem: I have got an application that is mainly control by a tray icon and I can't show the window unless I click the icon, but the client computer has set the system not to show the icons in the tray area. So can I write a small app to act like a hand-make system tray? That means I have to get all the icons in the tray area and be able to send the mouse events to the icons and let them response to their own program.
