IDE :: Modify Properties 2008 VB Express?

Attempting to follow instruction page 51. I have clicked form1 and clicked Alphabetical and Text is highlighted. The properties window is in Alfa order and the btotom reads "The text associated with the control". Instructions indicate modify the properties and table4-1 shows what should be modified. HOWEVER this data does not appear! How do I call this sata to modify. Soory for being a dunny. Trying to learn Visual basic 2008.

I'm supposed to modify a Dental Payment Application using Visual Basic express edition 2008. I've copied the code from the book and added some checkboxes,labels and commands. but it keeps giving those three errors:

In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

I get this message whenever I'm trying to debug using VB.NET 2008 Express: Step into: Stepping over property 'ReadTnsNames.ClassTnsNames.set_Name'. To step into properties, go to Tools->Options->Debugging and uncheck 'Step over properties and operators (Managed only)'.

I've been dealing with this kind of problem in many cases now, I try to edit the properties of a button or a label or smth else from a backgroundworker or a timer and I would get the "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Label' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." Now what I am dealing with in the backgroundworker is 3 things: reading/writing to labels' names, editing the checked state of some checkboxes and changing the enabled property of some buttons/pictureboxes. i need to do something as the old scholl on vb6, create a control array, i need to put 50 listviews controls and when the form is initialized start asigning properties since i will drag items to each one of those grids, im goin to make a dragdrop event to handle all the 50 controls, dont like the idea of adding handles c1, c2,cn, c50 but whatever, is there soemthing easy to create a routine to change properties and add columns to each one control dinamically?

how I can implement my calendar with VB .net express 2008 and MSSQL 2008 Express. How do I get it to work with datasets, binding source etc.If I go to Properties>settings my connection string is:

I can Add the event to the calendar I have the necessary items on my form linked to my table and I can save them to my table:

But I cant keep the event displayed on my calendar when I close it and open it again.

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

I have SQL 2008 Express and Visual Basic 2008 Express runing on XP Professional SP2. When I select add new data source from VB I don't have the option to connect to SQL Server 2008 express to get at the to SQL Server Database. I also notice that the OLE DB connector is not availble as a data connector. Can somebody please confirm that VB 2008 Express can connect directly to SQL Server 2008 Express and how I can achieve it.

I have a problem with form instantiation. This is what I want to achieve: I want to create forms with a toolstrip attached to them right from the moment these forms are instantiated. I have several ideas:
1. making custom Form Control
2. modifying the new method for forms
I'd like to focus on idea 2. I want to know if there's a way to alter the in-built New() method, so whenever the compiler instantiates a form, somehow when the constructor(New method) of each form is invoked, the compiler adds a toolstrip to the form.

I'm writing some text to a memory stream and need to modify it once in the memory stream The reason I can't modify prior to adding to the memory stream is that it is from some 3rd party component. I have a project, let's call it myproject and it's in the folder, myproject (VB2008>projects>myproject)
I want to eventually open this project and make some changes to it and the end result is that I will have a new piece of software.
So, here's what I do I copy the folder myproject to the desktop, rename it projectb and put back in the projects directory. (VB2008>projects>projectb)
Now, I can make any changes I want to the program and save to the projectb folder, BUT all of the entities (form, design view,settings etc) will still have the original name of myproject.* (and there's nothing you can do about it?) Is this the case? I don't see how you change the name of the "individual parts".
