IDE :: Unbound Button Column In DataGridView Control Placement?

Jan 3, 2010

I am trying to put an unbound button in the last column in a DataGridView control and it appears way, way off to the right when I run the app. I have to scroll all the way to the right to get to the buttons and then manually resize them to show up the way I want them to. I am using the Edit Columns feature found in the Smart Tag of the control. It works ok when I place them anywhere else in the columns! It only messes up when I try to place them at the end of the columns.

Show Bit Column As A Checkbox Column In Unbound Datagridview

May 14, 2010

Dim Comp = From C In db.Table1 _
Select C.Completed, C.Taken, C.Namne
Datagridview1.DataSource = Comp

Am using the Entity Framework and Columns Completed and Taken are of bit Datatype. When the query results are displayed in the datagridview, these bit columns are returned as of ColumnType Textbox - so i get a Datagridview textbox column with true or false string values.

I want to display Completed and Taken as Checkbox columns (either ticked for True or un-ticked for false) but ofcourse i can't do this in EditColumn dialogue because the Datagridview is unbound.

how can i change this in code at runtime

DB/Reporting :: Displaying DataGridView Text Column In A Mixed Bound/Unbound DataGridView?

Mar 15, 2011

I have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

My Code

Dim dtParm As DataTable = MyDataSet.tblParameter
Dim dgv As DataGridView = Me.dgvResultNum_DataGrid

Sorting A Unbound Datagridview Column

Sep 8, 2011

I have an unbound datagridview that I populate with data. When the user clicks on the column head the datagridview is sorted - which is fine for alphabetic fields but I have a column that contains numeric fields and goes from -100 to +100. This is sorted incorrectly by the number (all the 1s first then all the 2s and so on, ignoring the minus sign). How do I get it to sort my column numerically?

Add An Unbound Column To A DataGridView Whose DataSource Is A DataTable

Let's say that I have a DataGridView(myDGV) which I populate as follows:

'...
Dim strSQL as String = "SELECT col1,col2,col3 FROM myTable"
'....
myda.Fill(myDtb)
myDGV.DataSource = myDtb.
'The above code fills the DGV with data from the underlying query
'of the DataTable.

'Supposing that I want to add an unbound Column to the end of the DGV which appears together with the data returned by the query, is it possibe?

Populate An Unbound Column In Bound Datagridview Using .net?

Jun 13, 2012

I am populating a datagridview from a datatable and that is working fine. I wish to add some calculated columns from data in the datatable. At first, I did this by adding these to the table, but that makes it difficult to update the Access database. These lines are commented out.Right now, AWt and DOF are not working. The values are there when I step through (lines 85-87), but the values are not put in the grid. The value of NWt is placed in the grid as it should be.Lines 236 through 254 set up the new unbound columns. 85-87 should populate them.

Dim PurTab As New DataTable

Unbound Datagridview Column Not Retaining Values?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a DataGridView bound to a binding source. I have also, however, added an unbound column in which I plan on putting numbers calculated from the bound columns. The problem is, Any time I edit my unbound column (on any row), the value doesn't stay. If I programmatically edit the values, they never show up. If I type in the cell, then upon hitting enter or clicking outside of the cell, whatever I typed disappears.

Unbound Data Column In A Datagridview Moves Position?

Mar 10, 2010

I have a form and in that form is a datagridview listing information from a table in a database. The datagrid is setup as read only and the user is unable to move the columns around. The purpose of the datagrid is to allow the user to select entire records and press a menu button that does some action on them. To make it easier to use the very first column in an unbound data column that I fill with a number representing the row count so 1,2,3,4.... this makes it easier for the user to count how many rows he has selected.

The problem is that the unbound column moves to the last column in the datagrid at random times. This only happens in development not after the application has been deployed. Its annoying because lets say I go in to add a label or change a menu item on the form that has nothing to do with the datagrid I have to make sure that the unbound column hasn't moved.Has anyone else had this problem mixing bound and unbound columns in a datagridview.

Extend A DataGridView ComboBox Column's Edit Control By A Second Tiny Button?

Jul 12, 2011

I insert DataGridViewComboBoxColumn columns in a DataViewGrid. That works fine.

Now, I want the user to be able to not only select one list item, but to "drilldown" into the list that is behind the combobox, allowing him to edit (insert/delete/update) the list.

I think it would be a good idea to display a ".." button right behind the dropdown button of the combobox. Pushing it leads to a dialog where the list can be maintained.

What I am stumbling upon is:

How would I create such a custom combobox? Is ComboBox (which is the base for the combo box that the combo box column creates as its edit control) open enough to accommodate such an additional button? What would be the container of the tiny buttoon -- the ComboBox descendant? How I would make the grid create and handle such a custom combobox?

I currently try to solve this by subclassing DataGridViewComboBoxColum, using a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendent in its CellTemplate assignment, and overriding PositionWEditingPanel and PositionEditingControl to manipulate the sizes of the panel and the combobox so I'd have space for the tiny button. Is that the correct way?

Or would I have to create a DataGridViewColumn descendant which creates a Panel containing a DataGridView combobox edit control and the tiny button? How would I make sure the column keeps care of the combo box so it has the correct items etc?

Add A Summary Row To An Unbound Datagridview Control?

Sep 7, 2011

I have an unbound datagrid control I am using to store inspection information. The program records the information from the user, validates the values, and saves it into a database. It will then show the last inspection data in the datagridview. The user has the option of doublclicking a row and changing values and resaving the row. The number of rows per piece inspected varies, so that is why I used the grid to show the inspection data, however, they want to see a running total of each inspection point at the bottom of the grid so when they add the new values, it will update the running totals. I can see how to add a new column for a running total, but the layout requires the sums to be in the last row of the grid. I can add the row to the grid, but I need to make sure it stays at the bottom of the grid when I add a new row, and if possible freeze the row so it is always visible like excel. The program we are re-writting is excel based so this functionality is critical for the inspector to see the running totals for each inspection point.

Force A Commit On The Current Row From Within A Virtual Unbound DataGridView's Edit Control Event Handler?

Sep 8, 2011

Using the walkthrough from [URL], I implemented a DatagridView in virtual mode, totally unbound, in VB 10 Express (we are talking WinForms).

I understand that CommitEdit (DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit) commits the current cell's contents to the data cache.

The example uses row-level commit, i.e. it pushes the values into a row buffer until the current row is left. Only then the row is added to (or updated in) the data store. That's exactly what I do, too.

Question -- how can I commit the current row programmatically without leaving it? (I want to commit the whole row, not just the current cell.)

If the user leaves the row, there is a RowValidating, RowValidated, RowEnter event sequence where the datastore update is taken care of. So one idea (currently my only one) was to simply re-set CurrentCell to Nothing, for example.

But I cannot just set the DataGridView's CurrentCell property to Nothing (or any cell outside of the current row) since I want to commit from within an event handler of a custom edit control created by a custom column, and I see an System.InvalidOperationException exception when setting CurrentCell there.

In fact, it is a tiny button right to a combo box, i.e. I create a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendant which is a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn descendant's edit control. My special ComboBox cell adds a tiny button which should commit the current row. Unfortunately, that button's _Click event handler cannot change CurrentCell since DetachEditingControl throws the exception then.

Obviously, I must delay the CurrentCell re-assignment until the whole _Click event has been processed. Or what? How would I do that -- register a custom Windows message, SendMessage that one to me, and override the windows procedure of the form so it re-sets CurrentCell when this message is received? (Hello?)

There should be a rather easy way to let DataGridView commit all changes by firing the events that I handle to perform the datastore update, no?

Disbling A Button Until Both Column Datagridview Checkbox Is Checked?

Aug 21, 2011

I have 2 DatagridViewChecKboxColumn. What I want to happen is that a (Submit)button will be disabled until the checkbox2 will be checked. How will I do this if my checkboxes are DataGridViewCheckboxColumn? What loop will I do,because there's a possibility that I'll be checking the last checkbox?

CheckboxColumn1 is "Parent" and CheckboxColumn2 is "Child", they are related to each other. It's a requirement that the Parent has to have at least 1 Child meaning it can be One(P) is to ManyŠ or One(P) is to OneŠ. If the user didn't meet the said requirement, the system should not allow him to insert the selected records to the database. That's why I've decided to Disable the button unless the user checked the two checkboxcolumn. Meaning if the user only checked the checkbox/es in the Child column, the button will remain disabled, same concept with the Parent checkboxcolumn. The button that I'm talking about is what I call "Consolidate Button".

I tried this:

Private Function HasParentAndChild() As Boolean
Dim result As Boolean = False
Dim hasParentCode As Boolean = False

[code]....

I tried this, but still not working. It does disable the button but in random clicks/checks meaning after 3 clicks in anycheckboxes the button will be disabled and be enabled again after how many clicks. Dont know what the problem is. Tried to debug but I dont get it.
