Apply Percentage Format To Custom Cell In Custom Column In DataGridView?
Jun 25, 2009I came across this great article on creating a custom datagridview column which creates a graph-like effect in the cells of a custom datagridview column:[URL]..Does anyone know how you would edit this to format the number in the cell as a percentage? And does anyone know how you would set this up to take 0 values which do not create any graph effects at all.I have been trying to do this but keep getting errors.

I'm done creating the DataGridViewColumn class and the DataGridViewCell class, however, when I try to edit the type of the column, my new custom classes don't show up as one of the options. My DataGridViewScheduleColumn inherits DataGridViewColumn, so I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there anything else I need to do to expose these classes to the IDE?[code]...

Jun 21, 2010I believe that my questions are all going to revolve around the internal workings of DataGridView.While this is specifically written in VB.Net, it is definitely a general Visual Studio object question generically related to anyone working with .Net.I've been trying to find a forum where I can get some interaction and help to move forward.Microsoft's websites seem to be all questions and no answers.
I'm using VB.Net under Visual Studio 2005 SP2.I need to have a DataColumn that is dynamically visible based on other data in the same DataRow.After a lot of unsuccessful testing with various methods of accomplishing this, I came across the concept of Custom Cells/Columns.I started with several slightly varying examples and everything seemed to be falling into place. I tried to research each property and attribute as I incrementally learned a lot about the internal workings of Windows controls in general and DataGridView in particular.
The confusing symptom is that as I scroll down through the grid, the painting of the custom cells is at best unreliable.I created a minimum test case to eliminate as many variables as possible and I combined all of the source into one Form1.vb as follows:

Aug 5, 2009I've been working with this for a while now and have finally come to you for help. I have a custom control that inherits from a label and I'm trying to use it in a datagridview. I have followed this example and have tried to adapt it to my needs.
The custom control in this case is a label with a boolean type property named Value. When value is true, the label.text = "ON" and the color is red. When value is false, the label.text = "off" and the color is transparent. This is the effect I need to show in the dgv.
I have attached my developing project and would like you to take a look if you can. The project has a single form with the dgv, the custom control and a button on it. When the button is clicked the value of the custom control toggles. The control on the form changes color and text as it should, but the cell in the dvg simple changes text from FALSE to TRUE.

I am quite comfortable with the use of datagridview control accepting a list of objects as its datasource. I am also comfortable with populating the cell contents in the cellformatting event.
So I am planning to, instead of using a normal textbox control, button control and linkedtext control in datagridview cell, display my own custom control which is good one for displaying some custom data like, name, address, telephone, photo and others. It would be a nice improvement in my application.
Custom Control And Datagridview ComboBox Cell Back Color
Jun 5, 2009I have added a custom Control to my project, but every time I edit it and rebuild the form that I use the custom control in adds the project name in front of the control and won't compile. i.e. Project name = MyProject, Custom Control name = MyControl. When I rebuild the project after editing my control I get an error, MyProject.MyControl doesn't exist. If I remove the MyProject from the line it compiles and runs fine until next time I edit the custom control.
I can't figure out what I would be doing wrong to cause this, or why it is putting the project name in front of the control, but then not accepting it. I am also struggling figuring out how to change the back color on an individual cell in an Datagridview Combo Box. The style.backcolor property of the cell doesn't seem to do anything.

Mar 14, 2011I am having trouble in allowing the user to select the row in the datagridview.
I managed to include the checkbox column in the datagridview but i do not know how to wrte the code such that when the user wants to update or edit the data in the checked row, he just have to check the affected rows checkbox, can be one or many, and then click on ok button, which will then lead him to the data updater form, allowing him to update the data.
Currently i have the below code which can populate the checkboxclumn only.

IDE :: Unbound Button Column In DataGridView Control Placement?
Jan 3, 2010I am trying to put an unbound button in the last column in a DataGridView control and it appears way, way off to the right when I run the app. I have to scroll all the way to the right to get to the buttons and then manually resize them to show up the way I want them to. I am using the Edit Columns feature found in the Smart Tag of the control. It works ok when I place them anywhere else in the columns! It only messes up when I try to place them at the end of the columns.

Extend A DataGridView ComboBox Column's Edit Control By A Second Tiny Button?
Jul 12, 2011I insert DataGridViewComboBoxColumn columns in a DataViewGrid. That works fine.
Now, I want the user to be able to not only select one list item, but to "drilldown" into the list that is behind the combobox, allowing him to edit (insert/delete/update) the list.
I think it would be a good idea to display a ".." button right behind the dropdown button of the combobox. Pushing it leads to a dialog where the list can be maintained.
What I am stumbling upon is:
How would I create such a custom combobox? Is ComboBox (which is the base for the combo box that the combo box column creates as its edit control) open enough to accommodate such an additional button? What would be the container of the tiny buttoon -- the ComboBox descendant? How I would make the grid create and handle such a custom combobox?
I currently try to solve this by subclassing DataGridViewComboBoxColum, using a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendent in its CellTemplate assignment, and overriding PositionWEditingPanel and PositionEditingControl to manipulate the sizes of the panel and the combobox so I'd have space for the tiny button. Is that the correct way?
Or would I have to create a DataGridViewColumn descendant which creates a Panel containing a DataGridView combobox edit control and the tiny button? How would I make sure the column keeps care of the combo box so it has the correct items etc?

Dec 10, 2011I'm using Visual Studio 2005 on Windows XP.When I drop a new DataGridView into my Windows Forms, and try to make 1 of the columns a checkBox, VS2005 gives me TWO of each columnType choice:

Jan 11, 2010I am using custom textboxes and I need to be able to set the Text on txb1 based on the Text of txb2. I have simplied my code to the following:

So, when txb1 looses focus, if its Text is "fried", then it sets off txb2's ProcessAlert function. I had tried to change the value of txb2 Text in ProcessAlert function, but didnt work, so I tried to get it to raise an event instead, which then tries to set the Text property. However I still cant set txb2's Text property. The Text property seems to be set for the duration of the "life" of the Event handler. When I step through the forms controls within the Event handler, the changed Text value is there, but not outside of the Event handler.
