I'm trying to create a custom DataGridViewColumn and DataGridViewCell, and have found this article to be a great resource. I'm done creating the DataGridViewColumn class and the DataGridViewCell class, however, when I try to edit the type of the column, my new custom classes don't show up as one of the options. My DataGridViewScheduleColumn inherits DataGridViewColumn, so I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there anything else I need to do to expose these classes to the IDE?[code]...

I came across this great article on creating a custom datagridview column which creates a graph-like effect in the cells of a custom datagridview column:[URL]..Does anyone know how you would edit this to format the number in the cell as a percentage? And does anyone know how you would set this up to take 0 values which do not create any graph effects at all.I have been trying to do this but keep getting errors.

I believe that my questions are all going to revolve around the internal workings of DataGridView.While this is specifically written in VB.Net, it is definitely a general Visual Studio object question generically related to anyone working with .Net.I've been trying to find a forum where I can get some interaction and help to move forward.Microsoft's websites seem to be all questions and no answers.
I'm using VB.Net under Visual Studio 2005 SP2.I need to have a DataColumn that is dynamically visible based on other data in the same DataRow.After a lot of unsuccessful testing with various methods of accomplishing this, I came across the concept of Custom Cells/Columns.I started with several slightly varying examples and everything seemed to be falling into place. I tried to research each property and attribute as I incrementally learned a lot about the internal workings of Windows controls in general and DataGridView in particular.
The confusing symptom is that as I scroll down through the grid, the painting of the custom cells is at best unreliable.I created a minimum test case to eliminate as many variables as possible and I combined all of the source into one Form1.vb as follows:

I have created a custom column type for a datagridview. I have created a class for the datagridviewcolumn and a class for the datagridviewcell. Within the datagridcell class I am using the following code for the font.Dim fnt As Font = parent.InheritedStyle.Font How do I change this so that I have control over the font color for that cell? It seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

i have a datagridview with three columns. i set the first column to visible=false, so the user can only see two columns.when the user presses the tab key in the first visible column -- column(1), i want to ignore column(2) so that the user only tabs through the rows in column(1)i can't get it to work. it will always tabs through the rows in column(2) even if i use the column name.

Am using the Entity Framework and Columns Completed and Taken are of bit Datatype. When the query results are displayed in the datagridview, these bit columns are returned as of ColumnType Textbox - so i get a Datagridview textbox column with true or false string values.
I want to display Completed and Taken as Checkbox columns (either ticked for True or un-ticked for false) but ofcourse i can't do this in EditColumn dialogue because the Datagridview is unbound.

Is there a way to find the column index of a datagridview column using the columns DataPropertyName?I currently use a loop (shown below in the class) which is kind of ugly, but it works. I'd like to do something like this, which seems more elegant.My goal is this, I store the users DataGridView column settings (i.e. DisplayIndex, Visible, & Width).When the user opens the form that contains the datagridview I want to get those settings from the database and apply the settings to the datagridview.[code]

I have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

I support a .Net 2.0 Windows application that has a custom listview control to allow for greater flexibility. I am not allowed to bring this to a newer version of the gramework until next year. We are moving from XP to Windows 7, and we have identified an issue with how the column sort image (up/down arrow) is drawn to the listview. Currently in XP, the image is drawn to the right of the column's text. However, in Windows 7, I am getting Access Violation Exceptions. Now, I know that the error is with the improper handling of memory using the unmanaged code as shown below. I am looking for a method to mimic what we have below in a safe manner using managed code.
