If I double click on an existing XSD file in a VB project to display the XSd file in Design mode, I get a menu and some instruction, but none of the menu buttons work and my XSD file is not displayed. Does this XSD design mode work properly in VS2010 B2? How do I display the contents of my XSd file?

View 5 RepliesI am just new in visual basic and I was given a task to do a basketball playbook application using visual basic. I am trying to do a simple editor that would allow you to design the plays. How do I implement a picturebox (picturebox1) with an image in it (lets say image1) then when I drag it image1 will appear in another picturebox (picturebox2)with a basketball court background. Then after dragging image1, picturebox1 will now display another image (image2) ready to be dragged also.

I can't seem to find a good example of how to get the standard collection editor working for it at design time.I got it working using some example code I found to a degree, but the data in my collection doesn't get saved. When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more.Here is my class:

There is no editor available for 'file path here'. Make sure the application for file type (.vb) is installed. This is the error that I get when I try to open a project I did a while back in VB. I tried a C# project and I can open the form for viewing fine, but for some reason VB won't work? I really don't want to do a repair on the whole application as it takes a while and I'm not even sure I have the ISO right now.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to extend the functionality of the ToolStripPanel control (which is a panel hosting ToolStrips that can be moved during design-time, as I'm sure you know).One thing I wanted to add was a 'ToolStrips' property, which would be a collection of ToolStrips the user can edit via the collection editor in the designer. So instead of manually placing ToolStrips on the ToolStripPanel via the toolbox, the user can just use the property to add/remove (or even edit) them. This is of course similar to how you add/remove/edit TabPages in a TabControl.So, I came up with this code, which I have used successfully in the past for other controls:

The cToolStripPanel control inherits the ToolStripPanel control and adds the ToolStrips property, which is of type ToolStripCollection. That class, in turn, inherits the Collection(Of ToolStrip). In the InsertItem method, I add the 'item' ToolStrip to the cToolStripPanel. Of course I also need to override the RemoveItem / ClearItems methods but that's for another time.I am 100% sure that this code should works, at least for other controls. If you replace ToolStrip with Button (for example), I can add buttons via the property during design-time just fine, exactly the way I want it.But it seems that ToolStrips are special. When I try to Add a toolstrip (via the collection editor Add button), a null reference exception occurs. I've been trying to debug this all day and I've finally come up with a possible candidate for the problem... (I've actually used design-time debugging for the first time ever, which was pretty cool, and which showed me that the InsertItem method is not run!)
I think the problem is that the collection editor cannot create a new instance of the ToolStrip class. I can remember when trying to inherit from the ToolStrip, I was forced to add a constructor, because the ToolStrip "has more than one constructor that can be called with no arguments".Perhaps this is causing my problem? Do I (and if yes, how?) have to somehow control the creation of a new instance of the ToolStrip? Or am I completely off track and that is not what is causing the problem? I'm sure that it's a problem with the ToolStrip class, since I can use the exact same method with other controls just fine. It's only when I change the type to ToolStrip that it starts getting angry at me....
When running code analysis on my project, I receive the following message:

I don't understand why the Property keyword is so important in this particular case. Can anyone provide an explanation as to why changing this member to a Property makes a significant difference to code analysis?
My problem is fairly simple: Whichever project I want to deploy in VS2010 just doesn't work. If it's a Windows Forms application or a VSTO plugin, it doesn't matter. I don't even get a proper error message; it's just "Deployment not possible, because a project could not be created." Well, it's just a loose translation, the original message in German is "Verffentlichen nicht mglich, da ein Projekt nicht erstellt werden konnte." Building and running the projects locally doesn't cause any problems. To test it properly, I have even created a new project (Windows Forms) without changing anything, and then again, the same error message, the same problem.Do you know what I'm doing wrong? I don't ever get a proper error message, just that line without any information what actually went wrong. The log also shows only two lines:

After upgrading my solution with both c# and vb.net projects I have encountered some problems:
1. When for example writing Public Property MaxDate As Date and pressing enter it does not create the Get/Set values
2. Refactoring is not available
3. The properties window is blank when viewing classes (normally I would see Serializable and COM properties to the right)Intellisense works and the above problems work in new projects.

I can put how many new fields and labels with som "hello" text that I wont but they are not displayed at runtime. But all database changes the report i connected to will be displayed.
How can that be? What is wrong with my report when all datachanges runs thru but not my design changes?

I'd like to get some feedback what you think is the best way of designing a VB 2005 application that can be set up ("scaled"?) to work with different database backends (say MS-Access vs. SQL Server vs. Oracle). For example, where would you store the connection info, where should the repository of SQL statements (which will vary slightly from DBMS to DBMS) reside, etc.
View 9 RepliesI have an installation of VS2010 with Windows 7 at work and a laptop with Windows 7 X64. I transferred a whole set of project files to the laptop but the directory "Documents" does not exist on the laptop - it is called "My Documents". As such of course I get errors when loading the project on the X64 machine as the resource files cannot be found. I have tried changing the name of the directory to "Documents" to accord with the other PC, and this was apparetnly successful. But, VS still does not "see" the files in the renamed directory. How can I simply change the path name for the resource files so that VS can see these files?

I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:
btnWhatever.PerformClick()
Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.
I have a form that works on my local Machine I created into. I have Office 2007 on this machine. I created the Form with the Excel 12 Reference. I move the Entire conetence of the Project folder to my work computer. Which has Office 2003. Do I need to recreate the form with the Excel 11 reference. I could not get the form to work on work computer. IT has a com error. I am acessing the EXE for the debug folder w/in the Bin Folder.

The .RPTPROJ project is not recognized.Does anyone know why? And please don't say "It doesn't because it is not supported".
