VS 2010 - Error Opening Design View (No Editor Available)
Feb 10, 2012
There is no editor available for 'file path here'. Make sure the application for file type (.vb) is installed. This is the error that I get when I try to open a project I did a while back in VB. I tried a C# project and I can open the form for viewing fine, but for some reason VB won't work? I really don't want to do a repair on the whole application as it takes a while and I'm not even sure I have the ISO right now.

I have a windows application with a large form named QueryForm which I can no longer open in the design view. When I debug the project the form displays as normal and when I view all files you get the two files QueryForm.Designer.vb and QueryForm.resx. Is there any way I can re-assosciate this file as a form so I can use the design view again instead of having to recreate the form all over again? I have added a new form which works fine in design view and cannot think of any reason why the form will not work in the design mode

Design view shows an error message with projects that I open and with new projects. I can create or edit a project using code and properties. I just can't see anything but the error message in design. I can double click a label or text box and it will be added to the form, and I can edit it, just not see the form in design view.

Is there a shortcut to get to the designview form in a winforms project in visual studio 2010.F7 will take you to code behind class form and shift + F7 will take you to design mode. Is there a shortcut to filename.designer.cs formWhere you have the control definitions, delegates (for click event etc). defined. I go to the form often if I change the name of click event etc.I have to go through solution explorer and click on the file. Is there a shortcut like F7 that opens the designer.cs file?

I was wondering if there is any advantage to do everything programmatically instead of using design view to create forms, controls etc. Would there be any difference in size and/or performance after you compile it? So far I've been doing pretty much everything programmatically, specifying all the properties that aren't default for my forms controls but I am starting to wonder is there are any advantages to this, apart from making it easier (sometime) to manage and change the behavior of my controls.

When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. When I do this at work it automatically creates an event handler for the control in the code-behind.How do I change this to that setting?I don't want to type those event handler subroutines every time!

If I double click on an existing XSD file in a VB project to display the XSd file in Design mode, I get a menu and some instruction, but none of the menu buttons work and my XSD file is not displayed. Does this XSD design mode work properly in VS2010 B2? How do I display the contents of my XSd file?

The title pretty much precisely asks the question, but I shall repeat;
When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. When I do this at work it automatically creates an event handler for the control in the code-behind.How do I change this to that setting? I have used '/resetsettings' already, and other answers to similar questions do not solve my problem. I have reinstalled, gone through every menu I can find (though I may have missed something)I don't want to type those event handler subroutines every time!

I am just new in visual basic and I was given a task to do a basketball playbook application using visual basic. I am trying to do a simple editor that would allow you to design the plays. How do I implement a picturebox (picturebox1) with an image in it (lets say image1) then when I drag it image1 will appear in another picturebox (picturebox2)with a basketball court background. Then after dragging image1, picturebox1 will now display another image (image2) ready to be dragged also.

I have a UserControl class in a Windows Application project. One of the properties of it is a collection of another class that I have defined. I can't seem to find a good example of how to get the standard collection editor working for it at design time.I got it working using some example code I found to a degree, but the data in my collection doesn't get saved. When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more.Here is my class:
Public Class Gauge
Inherits Control
Private WithEvents _Captions As New CaptionCollection

So essentially, I have this text editor. How can I make it so when I drop a text file over it, it opens it in textbox2? Or when I doubleclick on the file, it automatically opens it in my program (in textbox2).

I am trying to extend the functionality of the ToolStripPanel control (which is a panel hosting ToolStrips that can be moved during design-time, as I'm sure you know).One thing I wanted to add was a 'ToolStrips' property, which would be a collection of ToolStrips the user can edit via the collection editor in the designer. So instead of manually placing ToolStrips on the ToolStripPanel via the toolbox, the user can just use the property to add/remove (or even edit) them. This is of course similar to how you add/remove/edit TabPages in a TabControl.So, I came up with this code, which I have used successfully in the past for other controls:
Public Class cToolStripPanel
Inherits ToolStripPanel
Private _ToolStrips As New ToolStripCollection(Me)[CODE]....
The cToolStripPanel control inherits the ToolStripPanel control and adds the ToolStrips property, which is of type ToolStripCollection. That class, in turn, inherits the Collection(Of ToolStrip). In the InsertItem method, I add the 'item' ToolStrip to the cToolStripPanel. Of course I also need to override the RemoveItem / ClearItems methods but that's for another time.I am 100% sure that this code should works, at least for other controls. If you replace ToolStrip with Button (for example), I can add buttons via the property during design-time just fine, exactly the way I want it.But it seems that ToolStrips are special. When I try to Add a toolstrip (via the collection editor Add button), a null reference exception occurs. I've been trying to debug this all day and I've finally come up with a possible candidate for the problem... (I've actually used design-time debugging for the first time ever, which was pretty cool, and which showed me that the InsertItem method is not run!)
I think the problem is that the collection editor cannot create a new instance of the ToolStrip class. I can remember when trying to inherit from the ToolStrip, I was forced to add a constructor, because the ToolStrip "has more than one constructor that can be called with no arguments".Perhaps this is causing my problem? Do I (and if yes, how?) have to somehow control the creation of a new instance of the ToolStrip? Or am I completely off track and that is not what is causing the problem? I'm sure that it's a problem with the ToolStrip class, since I can use the exact same method with other controls just fine. It's only when I change the type to ToolStrip that it starts getting angry at me....

Dim excel As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application()
Dim wb As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook = excel.Workbooks.Open(txtFileLocations.Lines(w))
Dim ws As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet = TryCast(excel.ActiveSheet, Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet)
when the program tries to opens an excel file, it always throws me an error "Office has detected a problem with this file. Editing may hard your computer" and my program crushes.......The problem appears on the SECOND line, on DIM wb...blahblah.. i went to the office and unclicked the "protected view" checkboxes.. but it still throws me those errors. my guess is that the office i have in the computer is not the same as the one that my program uses to open excel files (i mean, i loaded/imported some excel.dll files in the program so i guess that will be the one) But how do i make the program not care if the excel file is "potentially dangerous"?

I was loading my project when my computer rebooted suddenly. After it came back up, I went to load my project again and got an error about "an error occured when loading in the design view..this has been disabled" - sorry I did not get the exact message but it was something like this. Then when my project opened up, I now cannot see my form in the design view anymore. It still run's fine, but there is no code displayed and the form itself does not display in IDE anymore. I can see the code for the form only on the form.designer.vb mode.I have continues backup installed, and restored several versions of the class files for the form, but yet still no luck.

I am making a program using Windows Form Application, and I had it set up in the design view. I double clicked a button to begin coding and up popped a ton of stuff in the code view that I had never seen before. I closed that, and somehow closed the design view by accident too. Now I can't get my design view back, even by re-opening the program (I didn't save), and double clicking the form to open it. It opens up as "Form1.vb" rather than "Form1.vb [Design]".What happened, how can I fix this and get my design view back?
