when i select a reference, it doesnt show the properties for it any longer. I would really not have to copy every reference locally for each project im working on, as well as im not too keen on reloading visual studio either.

The situation is like when we create roles, we will save who created this role. So i have a CreatedBy Property of type User. Similarly when we create a User, we will mention what role the new user belongs to .So i have a property called "Role" of type "Role". This circular reference giving me StackOverflow exception as its recursive when i create an object of User class.How do i handle this ? should i restucture my entties ? how ?
I have my own class of graphic objects, and now I'd like to allow a user to right-click on one of those within the application and see a properties window. Is there a pre-built dialog or control for displaying properties at runtime? I'd like to have something just like the IDE properties window button for my application.
View 4 RepliesWhen in designer, if I add a DataGridView to a windows form, the properties do not show in the properties window. I'm using Visual Studio on XP. The problem exisits even if I create a new project, open a windows form and then drag a DataGridView onto the form.The grid view is present because I can add columns, etc. The only issue is the properties don't display. So I can't rename it from DataGridView1 unless I do it in code.

I have search this many times and found that most of the posts contain solutions that the original poster claims don't work The standard PrintProperties class does not handle a lot of printers who have specifictsks, eg a printer designed to pint on the face odf CD/DVD. I have found examples of how do this in VB6, but every examply I find for the versions of VB Basic after thet have comments that the solution provided did not persist the user chnges. Bow, come on, there has to be a way of displaying and persisting the user choises the dialog bog provided by the printer manufacturer!Terry
View 3 RepliesI have a combo box and a property grid in a form. The combo box contains 2 items. If one item is selected, two properties are listed in the property grid. These properties should have a dropdown that contains a list of items. I have two string arrays that contain the values for these properties. Can I use one TypeConverter that inherits StringConverter for these lists to be displayed in two different properties? That is, with one TypeConverter class, can I populate both the lists? I will also have to do the same with the other items in the combobox.

I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)
View 3 RepliesIn the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?
Is there a way to expose a UserControl's properties to the Properties Window in the Designer?
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:

View 3 RepliesOver and over i keep getting stuck on the idea of adding references to a project. I was looking about visual studios 2010, i clicked the project menu tab, and then scrolled to add reference. When i would click on it, it would bring up a large list to choose from. So, my issue is as follows. I am told to reference via my compile error message a few items. I thought i found the elements i was looking for and pressed OK. When i would try to run, it would still give me the errors.
What am i doing wrong? Am i not doing something correct?

I have a function GetAllProducts() which fetches all products from a database and stores it in the cache for future requests. This works fine, but if I then call the function e.g. ProductSearchResults = GetAllProducts(), and then modify ProductSearchResults variable, this also modifies the cache, which is very important this never happens, as the cache affects the whole website.
I understand this is because both ProductSearchResults and the cache now have the same reference, but how do I solve the problem? Is there something that I can put in GetAllProducts() to ensure the cache always uses its own value?

View 3 RepliesI have a project that uses web references to make SOAP calls to several web services. When I'm working locally, the services are hosted on my local machine, so the URL of each web service is something like [URL]. When I deploy the project to a server, the URL needs to change to the production URL. Currently I am accomplishing this with a prebuild event that does a find-and-replace on each URL and overwrites it with the deployment URL before deploying. Surely there is a better way.

'System.ServiceModel.XmlSerializerFormatAttribute' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Friend' in the Reference.vb file.
I have not gotten it in other projects that I have done that point to the same web service. I have recently add some code that I downloaded and cleaned up the errors in to my project and this seems to be what broke it. This code uses several new features that I am not familiar with, mainly the "Friend" declaration and also uses name spaces in the code it self. Also I converted the code from C# using an utility that I downloaded, that untility was not 100% in it's conversion, hence the clean up that was needed.
I have a tier application based on this video url... So far the client application only has a reference to the Business Logic (not Data Access).If i needed to tie a control such as a TreeView to list certain data fields from my table then where and how should i do that? For example i could write a For each statement to iterate through the table which returns the item from a table or i could do it in the WCF service app but how does this tie in with a control such as TreeView especially when there are no references?

However in VS2008, when you go to Project>Add references, the tickboxes are not there. So how do you know whether or not a reference has already been added?
View 1 RepliesSo I have a picturebox on my windows form and it has an image set to it, I also have a bunch of reference files that reference to a bunch of images.Me.PictureBox1.Image = My.Resources.imgs.image1That piece of code works.Now, I tried to databind the picture box to a database so the images would load on the change of a combo box but that got confusing really fast so what I did was created a database and it holds all the image references such as "My.Resources.imgs.image1" but its stored as type varchar(50).Connecting to the database and retreiving the strings is no problem, that works all fine.The problem is converting the string to the image reference, it doesn't work. I've tried type casting, I tried using imagelocation rather than image but I want to reference to the resources that is attached to the project.
