The situation is like when we create roles, we will save who created this role. So i have a CreatedBy Property of type User. Similarly when we create a User, we will mention what role the new user belongs to .So i have a property called "Role" of type "Role". This circular reference giving me StackOverflow exception as its recursive when i create an object of User class.How do i handle this ? should i restucture my entties ? how ?

Sep 16, 2009when i select a reference, it doesnt show the properties for it any longer. I would really not have to copy every reference locally for each project im working on, as well as im not too keen on reloading visual studio either.

I've to write a Dynamic Linq Expression: [URL]
In my case: Dim query As IEnumerable = ds.Sales.Where(strWhere)
But with System.Data.DataSetExtensions Where is misinterpreted. The compiler expects (Datarow, Integer, Boolean). If I delete System.Data.DataSetExtensions everything is ok with this expression, but I get many other errors, so I need this reference. What can I do that the Where is interpreted correctly?
References - Can't Access The Functions In The DAL Class From The BLL
Apr 26, 2011I have recently started learning VB.NET. I created a simple 3 tier windows application. The DAL project contains a class with a number of functions. In the BLL project, I've added a reference to the DAL project, but I still can't access the functions in the DAL class from the BLL. However, if I change the DAL class to a module, I can access them then. Both the DAL class and its functions are public.

Dynamic Controls In Tab Control Not Updating?
Oct 31, 2011I'm having trouble getting controls in non active tabs to update. I have a tab control with 12 tabs. Each tab displays a custom calendar of days for each month. For each of the days I used label controls. Now the trouble im having is when I re-size the window I want the day labels in each tab to re-size accordingly. I have the re-size function written and working but for some reason it will only re-size the active tab. In order for me to have the labels on the other tabs update to the re-size I need to open each tab as to load it then it will update the controls.I've tried putting Application.DoEvents() in my re-size loop but that didn't work. How can I get the other tabs to update / redraw the controls without having to open the tabs first?

Dec 29, 2010This is another one of my "I think it's not possible but I need confirmation" questions.I have a base class for a bunch of child classes. Right now, this base class has a few common properties the children use, like Name. The base is an abstract class (MustInherit)Technically, this means that everytime a child class is instantiated, it lugs around, in memory, its own copy of Name. The thing is, Name is going to be a fixed value for all instances of a given child. I.e., Child1.Name will return "child_object1", and Child2.Name will return "child_object2".

Nov 15, 2011Below you will find a code sample that I have dummied up to try and demonstrate the issue I am having. However, this is just a dummied up piece of code. The actual program has noting to do with STUDENTS or TEACHERS. Basically, the problem I'm having is trying to have a CLASS within another CLASS each of which contain ARRAYS that need to be dynamic in size. The sample has a CLASS called STUDENTS that can have in theory many students, the number of which are unknown to the CLASS. I need to be able to add STUDENTS to the ARRAY programmatically.
The CLASSROOM Class should also be an Array since each TEACHER will have MANY Students. There will be only 1 Teacher for a given classroom but the SCHOOL will have MANY CLASSROOMS. Again, I need to programmatically add Teachers and Students without having predefined Array sizes. The code I have listed below will NOT work but it demonstrates what I am trying to achieve. I want to be able to reference the CLASS by using something like this ...
School(iTeacherIndex).Student(iStudentIndex) = "Rick Smith"
I feel like I should be able to use ARRAYLIST in both classes but haven't been able to get it to work. I've tried DIM'ing as ARRAY and can't get that to work either.If I can get ARRAYLIST to work then I shouldn't need to worry about expanding the array via UBOUND (if it's even possible).The REAL question is "How do I have a CLASS within a CLASS, each of which has ARRAYS that need to be dynamic in nature so they can be expanded as needed? The size of the array cannot be determined ahead of time".
REMEMBER . . . the actual program has nothing to do with Students and Teachers. This was just my way of demonstrating the issue using an analogy that I thought everyone could understand. The actual Class is much more involved.I have purposely hardcoded some values just to make the sample easier to work with. This is NOT how I normally program but is just here to hopefully make things a little more clear.

Dynamic TypeConverter - Displaying Lists In Two Different Properties
Dec 15, 2011I have a combo box and a property grid in a form. The combo box contains 2 items. If one item is selected, two properties are listed in the property grid. These properties should have a dropdown that contains a list of items. I have two string arrays that contain the values for these properties. Can I use one TypeConverter that inherits StringConverter for these lists to be displayed in two different properties? That is, with one TypeConverter class, can I populate both the lists? I will also have to do the same with the other items in the combobox.

Dec 12, 2011I've got a DetailsView which has some static fields defined in my markup and adds some extra fields dynamically in the VB codebehind. It should be noted that the DetailsView lives in an UpdatePanel.Assume that I would like to get inventory information for a number of warehouses, but I only want to see those which have stock on hand. In addition I have some static information such as product, sku, etc.
The problem I was having was that every time I clicked the "Details" button it would just keep appending the dynamic fields to the end and never re-rendering the table. I figure I either need a conditional or to tell it to re-render somehow. I suspect this problem arises from my use of the UpdatePanel but it's important for the user experience of my customer to keep this.

Dynamic Bind Variable Queries Using Properties Looping?
Feb 8, 2012I have a class with properties in it . The properties in it are all named the same with the columns names in the database.The reason for that is that i want to loop through all the properties within the class and dynamically create an sql query with the parameters in it . Then dynamically create the parameters and add them into the oraclecommand , everything works well until one of the properties ( QTY ) is set to 0 . When it is set to 0 , during the properties loop ,it will check it as nothing and bypasses the QTY property , with that i am missing one of the columns.class with properties , Notice the property Qty it is Nullable(Of Integer) , it is because when inserting data into the database , sometimes i would want it to be null instead of default 0 .

May 31, 2010I'm designing a custom toolbox component. Some of the public properties are interdependent. At present, when the user changes one of these values in the Designer, the dependent value doesn't update until the user clicks on it. It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?

Dec 18, 2009I have a For Each block loops through a list of objects, the objects are all instances of a single custom class I have made which has multiple properties.The logic used in this block uses a property of the custom class to do a set action, is it possible to dynamically supply which property it uses in the logic? This will be more efficient and prevent me from having to create this logic over for each property of the custom class.My best guess was that maybe it is possible with reflection, however my searches into reflection have left me more confused.
