Saving Dynamic Properties In VB2003 Config.exe File?
Jul 21, 2009
I have a VB 2003 project and I have saved dynamic settings in the app.config.exe file with success.I am using ColorDialog to change the color of textboxes. Everything works OK except I need to save the changes in the config file.I have success with saving changes for textbox.text but not colors.

I'm working on a kind of database program. What it does is, after an user fills in a couple of textboxes and hits an "Add" button, it creates a series of textboxes, and places these in the same form. After that, and here's where I have the problem, I want to be able to save the form, saving not only what each dynamically added textbox says, but also it's location in the form.
Here's part of my work up to now:
Code:
Public Class Form3
Dim k As Integer = 1
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim j As Integer = 0
Dim x As Integer = 8
Dim y As Integer = 40
[Code] .....
NOTE: Age, name, last name, tel and type are all the fields that the user has to fill in, they are textboxes.

I currently have a class
Code:
Public Class Customer
Public Property AccountNumber() As String
Public Property PMDue() As String
[code]....
Account Class is initialized as new customer. To save the data from each property in the Account Class, I'm currently looping thru the properties each time Account obtains new data. I tried to simplify the process by the following line...
Code:
CustomerStreamToWrite.WriteLine(Account)
This does not work as written. I figured it would be much faster. It did not write out the property data. It saved "WindowsApplication1.Customer" Not exactly what I wanted. Is there a method to get it to save the properties in a written out style by just using the class name?

The object is to load an image into a picturebox, then save a new copy of the image in a different location, but with the height and width of the image box not the original file's height and width but I can't figure it out. I've got the loading and saving working no problem but getting it to adopt the new size is stumping me, it just keeps saving with the original file's size properties

I have developed a vb.net app with MS access as back end db.when i installed exe on client's machine, it gives error that it couldn't find the db file on client's machine, even though i have changed the connection string in app.config file after the installation. What i have found out is that when a dataset is created at development time and whatever the address is at that time , that is the address it looks for at client's machine.

I am working on a program where some application config info is stored in a Userconfig.xml file. I am loading the file as an XMLDataProvider in the XAML via relative URI:
<XmlDataProvider x:Name="UserConfigDataSource" x:Key="UserConfigDataSource" Source="UserConfig.xml" d:IsDataSource="True"/>
I have a number of items throughout bound to elements in the document and an event handler that saves to the XMLDataProvider:
Private Sub SaveConfig(ByVal sender as Object, ByVal e as System.EventArgs)
'TODO: Add event handler implementation here
Dim SavePath As String = UserConfigDataSource.Source.LocalPath.ToString
[Code]....
When this executes I get the error "This operation is not supported for a relative URI". Is there a good way to produce an absolute URI (aside from getting the assembly executing location and trimming the executable filename from the end)? I expected this to be a somewhat simple procedure.

Is there a way to dynamically create properties at runtime in VB .NET using introspection?
e.g. Suppose I had a class
Public Class Foo
Public Property Bar() As String
get
...
end get
[code]....
Is there a way to create property Bar at runtime?

I am a vb.net newbie, so please bear with me. Is it possible to create properties (or attributes) for a class in visual basic (I am using Visual Basic 2005) ? All web searches for metaprogramming led me nowhere. Here is an example to clarify what I mean.
public class GenericProps
public sub new()

I have a combo box and a property grid in a form. The combo box contains 2 items. If one item is selected, two properties are listed in the property grid. These properties should have a dropdown that contains a list of items. I have two string arrays that contain the values for these properties. Can I use one TypeConverter that inherits StringConverter for these lists to be displayed in two different properties? That is, with one TypeConverter class, can I populate both the lists? I will also have to do the same with the other items in the combobox.

I am working on a project where I need to create dynamicly created text boxes (which works fine) and then save the values from those text boxes to a txt file.Essentially how the form works is their are a few static text boxes the user fills out and then presses a button to create a row of 7 other text boxes and they click the button for however many rows they need.Again this part work just fine, but its when I get to trying to save the values in those boxes that I run into trouble.I'm fairly new to vb.net and currently I only know how to save the static boxes using the WriteLine function, which unfortunetely doesn't work for the dynamic ones. I have used the following code to generate buttons dynamically. I want to know how to code in such a way that if i click one button, there should be some change done to some other button in the same form. Since all the buttons are generated in the loop, i do not know how to call one button elsewhere in the code.
Private Sub random2_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim i As Integer

I have a class with properties in it . The properties in it are all named the same with the columns names in the database.The reason for that is that i want to loop through all the properties within the class and dynamically create an sql query with the parameters in it . Then dynamically create the parameters and add them into the oraclecommand , everything works well until one of the properties ( QTY ) is set to 0 . When it is set to 0 , during the properties loop ,it will check it as nothing and bypasses the QTY property , with that i am missing one of the columns.class with properties , Notice the property Qty it is Nullable(Of Integer) , it is because when inserting data into the database , sometimes i would want it to be null instead of default 0 .
Public Class HDB
Public Property BONum() As String
Public Property Owner() As String
Public Property Qty() As Nullable(Of Integer)
[code]....

For example, I clicked the Add Text box button, so it added 3 text boxes in the form (I used Dynamic text box so it can add multiple text box). When I input data to one of those 3 text boxes and then Save button has been clicked. It should checked whether the dynamic text boxes are empty or not. If there are empty text boxes, then saving data to db should not be continued and display a message telling the user that empty field(s) are invalid.
In the code below, it saves the data even if there are empty text boxes and I think because it is in the for loop, it checks the text boxes one by one and repeatedly displays the message box that I coded.
Here's the complete code:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class Form3
[Code]....

I have just installed VB.NET 2003 and I am trying to manage some databases using SQL Server 2005 Express.When I try accessing the database via the data connection tab, I get the following message.
Quote: You have connected to a version of SQL Server later than SQL Server 2000. The version of Visual Studio or Access that you are using was released before the version of SQL Server to which you are connected. For this reason, you might encounter problems.
Please check with Microsoft to see if there is a service pack that you should apply to Visual Studio or Office in order to get support for the version of SQL Server to which you are connected.You can continue but any new object types might not be enumerated, and it will not be possible to save any objects or database diagrams that you create using the Visual Database Tools.I can not add tables or manage data fields. Does anyone know how to get the patch referred to in the message above? I can not find it via google or this forum.

I want to build a MVC helper function for which I pass a Entity Framework object and have it build a select. Generally speaking I tried something like this:
Public Function RenderSelect(ByVal helper As HtmlHelper, ByVal sSelectName As String, ByVal aItmes As Array, Optional ByVal sTitleKeyName As String = "name", Optional ByVal sValueKeyName As String = "id") As String
' open select
[Code].....
However, it isn't working. It would be great to have a way to do this and pass the current entity object.

I'm looking for a way to specify the location for the User.config file that is used for storing the My.Settings object. It appears that this is not possible. The problem for me is, I don't want to be responsible for creating several different files on the users computer that really have no use and are difficult to find and clean once an update is released. For most users, this is not a serious problem, as many will probably never update the software, and most will probably only go through a couple of updates. On my system, there are config files for every build of the application, and the same to a lesser extent will be true for my beta testers.
I can understand that MS wants to make sure that no two applications will use the same location for storing application data, but a simple [UserData] [CompanyName][ApplicationName] for storing application data will probably suffice for 99.9999 percent of the legitimate applications in the world. Bogging a user's system down with erroneous files, no matter how small, is an unnecessary drain on system resources and a potential source of problems for the user. It's bad enough that most programs leave bits and pieces of themselves all over a user's system after De-installation - this to me seems only to exaggerate this problem.
Is the only way to get around this problem to write a whole new Settings Class? Is there a way to change the location of the UserConfig file to a more friendly (and more predictable) location that I am not finding for myself? It would seem that having at least the OPTION to specify a location for the User.Config file would be OBVIOUS and easy to implement, so why did they leave this out?

I have this pretty simple application, it uses a webService to transfer data to my servers DataBase. Now it is very important for me to keep this application as one single file, and not having some XML files needed for it to work, but this is the case. I think the XML file holds the information to this webService, so without it the application crashes. Is there a way to get the application to work without this XML file, or a way to put the XML inside the exe archive?

I have existing file named myapp.exe.config . What I would like to do is have a little app where user could specify path to app database. I know how to get file path but I dont know how to change existing line in myapp.exe.config file. No changes during runtime. Just simple app to change string in app.config file. I would like to enable user to select path to database and store that path in app.config file. Line which I would to change has a string "|DataDirectory|mydatabase.accdb" and i would like to change it with for ex. "C:Myappmydatabase.accdb" ( if it is selected file's path).
