How do I open a CSV file in VB? More specifically, I'm able to make this work on my local computer but when I put the site up on the web and copy the CSV to my site, it doesn't work.
I feel like it has to do with the fact that it can't find the file when it's on the web, like I have the Data Source wrong. Here's my

I would like to do this all in code and able to run multiple instances of the program to get information from many different web sites. Is something like this possiable in VB.net?

The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with

When i publish my program i choose to let the application check for updates via a website and if their is one update automatically when the program starts. Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.

The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. I'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:

This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. The other grid has the users who have garment issued to them. the style number is in both grids. View 2 RepliesI have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row.
For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets:
SELECT ID, colA, colB
SELECT colC, colD
The resulting dataset would look like
ID colA colB colC colD

ok, I've finally got my test database issues sorted out, however now I need to actually modify my existing report to add the two new fields from my test database. I have made a copy of the report so that I am not modifying the original. I have deleted the two old fields and now want to add my two new fields in there. In the Field explorer window, I see an object called "dataset1" and when I expand it, it is using a view that includes fields from the table that I added my two new fields to.
The problem I see here is that I have gone in and modified the view to include these two new fields in my test database - but again, they are not showing up as selectable fields here. I am just assuming that "dataset1" is somehow pointing to the live database again and that I need to change the datasource location.In my solution explorer, I see an object called "dataset1.xsd" but the properties of that do not tell me much about where it is actually pointing to...

I have created a web service in a virtual directory using VS 2008. I have tested the service by going to the .asmx page and everything is working fine. So I selected the "Add web reference" option under the solution and typed in the .asmx URL. It found the web service successfully and added the reference to the project. However, when I try to import the service namespace using the same name as the directory under the "App_WebReferences" folder, it doesn't recognize the name and gives me an error if I try to import it. Have I missed any steps in the process?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to write my first DLL and am struggling to get it working correctly and am receiving a variety of errors. For my Hello World DLL I was trying to follow this page [URL].. but as it was very old and referring to VB 6 I am now trying to use the instructions on this page: Essentially, what I have done is to follow all of the instructions on the second link, but then instead of calling it from C++ I call it fro my VB application (I have successfully managed to call DLLs from VB in the past). When I try to call the Add function (or any others) I get a BadImageFormatException error thrown saying "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)" but I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have tried calling an alternative C++ function that is declared as a void and takes no arguements in order to completely avoid the problem of matching the data types but I get exactly the same error.
I gather that this is sometimes to do with target architectures, and have tried setting the C++ compiler to build it as both a Win32 DLL and as an x64 DLL, and each time changed the VB settings to match the outut type of the other but this doesn't seem to make any difference, and for some permutations even makes it worse with it saying that it can't find the entry point in the DLL that I'm calling.

I inherited a DLL project developed in VB6; this project has to be integrated to a VB.NET GUI. At the moment, the project is integrated succesfully except for one detail that it is taking a lot of my time.
Every time that has to load a form from the COM DLL, the execution of the program loops and gives an OutofMemoryError -- I imagine the error is because the executing is looping by trying to load and reload the Form1 from the DLL. So, is it possible to import graphical controls and components along the DLL, such as Form1? or, do I need to separate them in order to import the DLL succesfully?
i am importing a csv file into my app. this is to let the users pull in info they have in excel.somehow, they have slanted apostrophes, and not tick marks. so when i open the file stream and do the import, it pulls in those characters as blank boxes (unknown char).

Ok, I've been fighting this for days and so far haven't found very much helpful information on the web. Apparently this isn't a very popular thing to do since there isn't much out there. The setTestVar function simply sets the value of a member variable, and getTestVar returns the value of that variable. I load the setTestVar function from the dll like this:

Then when I click a button, I call:setTestVar(9) This results in an "AccessViolationException was unhandled" error. "Attempted to read or write protected memory...."After thinking about it, I guess this would make sense if the constructor in the dll was never called (and thus the variable into which I'm trying to store data doesn't exist).So the question becomes, how do I call the constructor in the dll from vb such that I have some sort of handle or reference to that object when the call returns from the dll? Without a handle, I won't be able to access any of the member variables. Is this thinking close to being correct? Or is the problem something entirely different?So again, how do I call the constructor in the dll (from vb) and somehow have access (from vb) to the object that it creates?
Is this possible? I upgraded to VB Express 8 and have several programs that I would like to import into VB Express 8 from VBE 5. But everything I have tried so far has not worked.....This is the first time I have imported files from one computer to another. I have tried to save the file as a zip file and unzipping it in VB 8, but that didn't seem to work.

I'm trying to import the WinLicense SDK, but When I try and add it as a reference, it doesn't seem to work. It says it's not a valid COM reference. I was just wondering if any of you guys protect your programs with WinLicense, and how to protect my applications with it... I'm trying to use the APIs so I can use the HWID Protection.
