Asp.net - Importing Web Service

I have created a web service in a virtual directory using VS 2008. I have tested the service by going to the .asmx page and everything is working fine. So I selected the "Add web reference" option under the solution and typed in the .asmx URL. It found the web service successfully and added the reference to the project. However, when I try to import the service namespace using the same name as the directory under the "App_WebReferences" folder, it doesn't recognize the name and gives me an error if I try to import it. Have I missed any steps in the process?

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,

This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}
Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.

We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

I inherited a working WCF Web Service with one major flaw - the WCF Service consumes memory and does not release unless the service is restarted. After a half a day of requests hitting the web service, the memory on the server hosting the service climbs to close to 2 gig and is dead in the water.
I'd like to be able to release memory after the web service has received its response but cannot figure out how (WCF is still new to me). [code]...

I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. for example i have a.exe and b.exe ( the a.exe is an vbApp, and b.exe is an executable file ), now.. it is possible to include the b.exe into a.exe and then running it from a.exe, for example importing the b.exe into vbProject and then running it without extracting it.

I have searched through posts on SO and found that using the Settings in the properties of the project is great for use with console and winforms applications. However, Google and SO are silent when it pertains to storing these settings with a windows service.

I am trying to write my first DLL and am struggling to get it working correctly and am receiving a variety of errors. For my Hello World DLL I was trying to follow this page [URL].. but as it was very old and referring to VB 6 I am now trying to use the instructions on this page: Essentially, what I have done is to follow all of the instructions on the second link, but then instead of calling it from C++ I call it fro my VB application (I have successfully managed to call DLLs from VB in the past). When I try to call the Add function (or any others) I get a BadImageFormatException error thrown saying "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)" but I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have tried calling an alternative C++ function that is declared as a void and takes no arguements in order to completely avoid the problem of matching the data types but I get exactly the same error.
I gather that this is sometimes to do with target architectures, and have tried setting the C++ compiler to build it as both a Win32 DLL and as an x64 DLL, and each time changed the VB settings to match the outut type of the other but this doesn't seem to make any difference, and for some permutations even makes it worse with it saying that it can't find the entry point in the DLL that I'm calling.

I inherited a DLL project developed in VB6; this project has to be integrated to a VB.NET GUI. At the moment, the project is integrated succesfully except for one detail that it is taking a lot of my time.
Every time that has to load a form from the COM DLL, the execution of the program loops and gives an OutofMemoryError -- I imagine the error is because the executing is looping by trying to load and reload the Form1 from the DLL. So, is it possible to import graphical controls and components along the DLL, such as Form1? or, do I need to separate them in order to import the DLL succesfully?

Ok, I've been fighting this for days and so far haven't found very much helpful information on the web. Apparently this isn't a very popular thing to do since there isn't much out there. I'm hoping someone here can help me out. The setTestVar function simply sets the value of a member variable, and getTestVar returns the value of that variable. I load the setTestVar function from the dll like this:

Then when I click a button, I call:setTestVar(9) This results in an "AccessViolationException was unhandled" error. "Attempted to read or write protected memory...."After thinking about it, I guess this would make sense if the constructor in the dll was never called (and thus the variable into which I'm trying to store data doesn't exist).So the question becomes, how do I call the constructor in the dll from vb such that I have some sort of handle or reference to that object when the call returns from the dll? Without a handle, I won't be able to access any of the member variables. Is this thinking close to being correct? Or is the problem something entirely different?So again, how do I call the constructor in the dll (from vb) and somehow have access (from vb) to the object that it creates?

Is this possible? I upgraded to VB Express 8 and have several programs that I would like to import into VB Express 8 from VBE 5. But everything I have tried so far has not worked.....This is the first time I have imported files from one computer to another. I have tried to save the file as a zip file and unzipping it in VB 8, but that didn't seem to work.
