View 5 RepliesOn my windows form i have textbox where the user will be entering XML data. What i want to be able to achieve is to search for a field called DESCRIPTION= and check that the text included contains certain characters? How can i get the tool to first find the DESCRIPTION= and test the characters contained with the " (quote marks)?
For example:
DESCRIPTION="hello & welcome"
I want my tool to look for certain characters like < > and & and when it finds one to have a error msg pop up and inform the user that the character will then be escaped for it's HTML entity, i.e & becomes &?
So, I have a textbox with the following text.
Code:
TITLE"Hello there"
blah blah blah etc...
I want my program to find the TITLE text, and then put the text in the double quotations in a variable.
im trying to get this as a result:
"the person said "hello""
how can i use speach marks inside of speach marks in code?
I need to check if the webpage contains class="listingTitle">
So im using this
If (WebBrowser1.DocumentText.IndexOf("class=""listingTitle"">", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) > -1) Then
That doesnt work. I tried "class='listingTitle'>", and I tried "class=""listingTitle"">" both dont work.
I am trying to use string.replace to replace a string that contains some quotation/speech marks.I am trying something like this

Trying to split a line wherever "," appears (with the quotation marks), The problem is VB.NET uses " to start/end strings, so I tried using .Split(""",""") but that then splits it by " not ","
View 4 RepliesI have a problem that seems trivial. In an argument to an activity I need to supply a path.
This is done by this code:
String.Format("a
-bd -y -tzip {0} {1}* -r",
Path.Combine(BinariesDirectory,
"output.zip"),
BinariesDirectory)
However, the directories parameters contain spaces so they have to have quotes around them. I tried with single quote ' that works fine to put in the string, but the command shell executing the command ignores these. So it has to be double quote "
I have tried all methods I have fount on the Internet, for example to have a backslash before the double quote and to have three double quotes, but nothing seems to work. I get a compiler error as below.
Error 4 Compiler error(s) encountered processing expression "String.Format("a -bd -y -tzip "{0}" '{1}*' -r", Path.Combine(BinariesDirectory, "output.zip"), BinariesDirectory)".Comma, ')', or a valid expression continuation expected.
I am using Git for source control on a .NET project. Is there any way to include the current Git revision number in my EXE upon compile time?
I'd like to be able to have the revision number available for an "About" dialog, or similar. Perhaps there is a way to update Settings.vb right before build?
My application check a valid license key using Select...Case,for each user I have a Case statement. This way I can easily remove a user from next versions of my app.If I use a external data file, my app can be easily hacked, exe can be replaced etc,but using all inside exe seems to be more secure, but Select...Case statement will grow so I'm looking for a way to store white list - keys inside my exe.

View 2 RepliesIs there an Excel text file format (XlFileFormat) to export that will not put quotation marks around strings? I've tried xlTextWindows. Maybe there is an additional setting I'm missing? Most of the time, the datasets I'm exporting are in CSV, but I have a situation where I still want to export with an Excel type (long story) but really it is just a small blob of text. Otherwise, I'd just export to a text file; trying to avoid that for this one case.
[Edit]In this case, I have an Excel workbook with a single worksheet, with one cell (No header) with the text: [Reports]

While searching on how to escape a single quote in String.Format, I found the answer at SO: Escaping single quote in String.Format(). It seems to be different for VB though. I tested it, and indeed C# needs
string s = DateTime.Now.ToString("MMM d \'yy 'at' H:mmm");
while VB needs
Dim s As String = Now.ToString("MMM d 'yy 'at' H:mmm")
Why does C# need a double backslash, and VB a single backslash? This might be a bit of a silly question to C# users, but while I can read C#, I'm not used to writing it.
is there way to update having quote string eg. drug's name ('s) in vb text field ' this corrector REFUSING TO UPDATE TO DATABASE. this kinds of error always comes up Incorect Syntax Near 'S'.Unclosed Quotation Mark After character string '))'.

I noticed that if I leave off the terminating double quote for a string constant in Visual Studio 2010, there is no error or even a warning, i.e.
Dim foo as String = "hi
However, the continuous integration tool we are using flags an error:
error BC30648: String constants must end with a double quote.
Is there some language rule in VB.Net that makes a terminating double quote optional "sometimes"? Is there some setting in Visual Studio that will make it flag this as an error, so I can avoid "breaking the build" in this way?
I have a CSV file where the values are in double quotes and seperated by a comma. I'm getting incorrect data if I try to seperate the string with my Split function. How do I do it?
Example:[code...]

How to add decimal point (with two decimal places) to string, without converting string to decimal? For example (Dim str1 as String), regardless str1 has value: 100 , 100.0 , 100.00, or 100.5 , 100.50..I'd like to get the output: 100.00 or 100.50, with two decimal places.
View 3 RepliesI've written a little library to include in other projects that does some string parsing. One of the items I'd like to access as a property of the class is a string array.I can't seem to get the syntax right though. As a matter of fact, I thought in VS 2010, you didn't have to use the get, sets anymore, but I can't seem to find the right example for what I'm trying to do.
I'm trying to create a sql query to search within an Access table that is showing inside a datagrid.

I have developed a VB.NET (VS2005) application that performs a dependency check of VBA code to see where a selected procedure was called from. I want to add the facility to launch an application and to load the selected procedure into it's edit window. I can launch the application and, using sendkeys, I can open the application window, and the final thing is to use SendKeys to insert the function name. Now, here is the problem. Where the finction name contains parentheses, they get stripped out by SendKeys. For example where a function name is of the form "Scriptxyz(1)", then sendkeys sends the value "Scriptxyz1" to the application. I have the script name defined as a string and am using SendKeys(strName). How can I stop SendKeys from stripping out the parentheses?
View 2 RepliesI've been working with an Infragistics Ultragrid and I'm looking for a helpful hint. I'm using a table from SQL Server 2008 to populate my grid. The table that I'm calling has a column that has been updated to be something like this. "Items" + char(9) + char(9) + "Cost" + char(13) + char(10). The "Items" section of the column is padded to be 50 charcters in length followed with the two tab characters, the cost then the new line characters. Ultimately this is what the results of a single row would look like. Notice how the items and the cost are lumped into a single cell.

I am adding ToolTips to my forms and sometimes to get the point across my text string can get lengthily. This results in a long single line. Currently I am simply adding manual carriage returns after a test run and then making changes when it looks right. Has to be a better way.
