Include Non-string Types Into An SQL Query?
Jul 7, 2010
I'm trying to create a sql query to search within an Access table that is showing inside a datagrid.
The search criterias used in the "where" bit are retrieved from info entered by the user in 3 textboxes and 1 DateTimePicker control. The first 2 fields are String type, the 3rd field is a date type (entered by the user using the DateTimePicker) and the last field in the DB table is Integer type.[ode]...

I used BackGroundWorker control on a Windows desktop program. It worked great and I would like to use it with other languages. Which languages does it work with -- ASP.NET, Silverlight, WPF, Class libraries (dll), console applications, services,
WCF? I see that it is in the System.ComponentModel namespace. Is that used by more than Windows desktop programs? If it's not used everywhere, is there an equivalent class on other platforms?

This LINQ to SQL query From g In Db.Context.Current.Groups Select g.GroupID
generates this SQL:
SELECT [t0].[GroupID] FROM [dbo].[Groups] AS [t0]But this query From g In Db.Context.Current.Groups
Select g.GroupID, g.MemberCount
[Code]...
I very much want to select only the fields I need. How can I persuade LINQ to SQL not to select all columns?

Table relationship[code]...
There are some TimeSheet that have no TimeRecord, which I need to select as well. How can I select all of them to make selection like above wanted result? I'm thinking of how I can include some condtion checking in the query to see if this TimeSheet has no TimeRecord then no need to Sum(tr.BonusHour) just assign TotalHour to zero.

I am working on an application in Visual Basic Express using an Access 2000 database.I am trying to get athe following SQL query to work but get an error in Access.
The query is:
SELECT [ID], [Title], [Author], [Series], [YearPublished], [ISBN], [CoverPrice], [Style], [Condition], [Signed], [Comments], Count([Title]) AS CountOfBooks, Sum([CoverPrice]) AS TotalCoverPrice
FROM tblBooks
WHERE ID=[@ID];
The error is:"You have tried to execute a query that does not include the spec ified expression 'ID' as a part of the aggragate function."
The query works fine without the 'Count' and 'CoverPrice' count and sum to the query.

How to declare Anonymous types. I want to do a different query based on a condition.
Something like this:
If true then
Dim Myquery = From data In MyXML.Root.<hist> _
Select New With { _
.SensorID = CType(data.<sensor>(0), Integer)}
else
[CODE]...
Then I want to reference MyQuery outside of the condition. But how do I declare MyQuery outside of the if statement?

Every LINQ example I have seen for VB.NET anonymous types claims I can do something like this:
[code]...
Now when I go to iterate through the collection(see example below), I get an error that says "Name "x" is not declared. For Each x in Infos It's like VB.NET doesn't understand that Infos is a collection of anonymous types created by LINQ and wants me to declare "x" as some type. (Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of an anonymous type?) I have added the references to System.Data.Linq and System.Data.DataSetExtensions to my project. Here is what I am importing with the class:

How to add decimal point (with two decimal places) to string, without converting string to decimal? For example (Dim str1 as String), regardless str1 has value: 100 , 100.0 , 100.00, or 100.5 , 100.50..I'd like to get the output: 100.00 or 100.50, with two decimal places.

I've written a little library to include in other projects that does some string parsing. One of the items I'd like to access as a property of the class is a string array.I can't seem to get the syntax right though. Even though the little project will build - when I add the .dll to my other project and create a reference to it, it gives me an error - argument not specified for parameter

As a matter of fact, I thought in VS 2010, you didn't have to use the get, sets anymore, but I can't seem to find the right example for what I'm trying to do.

I have developed a VB.NET (VS2005) application that performs a dependency check of VBA code to see where a selected procedure was called from. I want to add the facility to launch an application and to load the selected procedure into it's edit window. I can launch the application and, using sendkeys, I can open the application window, and the final thing is to use SendKeys to insert the function name. Now, here is the problem. Where the finction name contains parentheses, they get stripped out by SendKeys. For example where a function name is of the form "Scriptxyz(1)", then sendkeys sends the value "Scriptxyz1" to the application. I have the script name defined as a string and am using SendKeys(strName). How can I stop SendKeys from stripping out the parentheses?

I've been working with an Infragistics Ultragrid and I'm looking for a helpful hint. I'm using a table from SQL Server 2008 to populate my grid. The table that I'm calling has a column that has been updated to be something like this. "Items" + char(9) + char(9) + "Cost" + char(13) + char(10). The "Items" section of the column is padded to be 50 charcters in length followed with the two tab characters, the cost then the new line characters. Ultimately this is what the results of a single row would look like. Notice how the items and the cost are lumped into a single cell.

I am adding ToolTips to my forms and sometimes to get the point across my text string can get lengthily. This results in a long single line. Currently I am simply adding manual carriage returns after a test run and then making changes when it looks right. Has to be a better way.

I understand that an array variable contains a reference to an array object - it is a reference type. string variable is also a reference type. So, if I make a copy of either one, a change to the copy should also change the result I get when I look at the original because both refer to the same object. In the following code, I expected to see "Whoooy" as the result for original and copy for both the array and the string. It works with the array but not the string.

I'm trying to figure out how find an object's type when it is a subclass of another object and I only know the string value of the object's type's name.I created the follwing classes:
HTML
Public Class word
End Class
Public Class noun[code]....
The problem is, using 'GetType' to check pn against a string value, I can only see that pn is a properNoun, not that its parent classes are noun and word.Is there a way to check pn against the string value "noun" or "word" and get back a positive result, indicating that pn is indeed a noun and a word as well as a properNoun?

I am extending some of the basic data types in vb.net for a large application. This includes integer, string, short, etc. As it stands, my new data type objects have names like MYInteger and MYString. Since these are the only types I'm using for my application and they are mostly compatible with the default types, is there a way I can override the defaults with mine so when you Dim iThing as Integer you're actually using my slightly customized integer type?

This should be an easy one, looks like I got myself too confused.I get a table from a database, data ranges from varchar to int to Null values. Cheap and dirty way of converting this into a tab-delimited file that I already have is this (shrunken to preserve space, ugliness is kept on par with original):
da.Fill(dt)
' da - DataAdapter '
' dt - DataTable '
