InternetExplorer Events Not Thrown During Refresh?

Oct 29, 2010

I noticed that the BeforeNavigate2, NavigateComplete2 and DocumentComplete events are not thrown by SHDocVw.InternetExplorer if the user clicks the Refresh button. I need to handle all of these events when our users navigate to various links.

Prevent SelectedIndexChanged Events From Being Thrown?

Jun 14, 2012

I have a combobox in winforms, which, depending on what you select, determines what's populated in other comboboxes. I filled the initial combobox using a dataview:
combobox_process.DataSource = dataview
combobox_process.DisplayMember = "UserDefine1"
combobox_process.SelectedIndex = -1

Which works fine, except every one of those lines throws the SelectedIndexChanged event. The function that populates the next combobox listens for that event and so it's running three times. I asked a coworker and he suggested just looping through the data and adding them all manually as strings, but I'd prefer to stick with databinding if I can. Especially if, in the future, I need to do something that I can only do with databinding. Perhaps some way to disable that event during a portion of this code?

Catching Exceptions Thrown By Controls Events?

Jan 5, 2011

I've a control that throws an exception in one of its events and I need to catch this exception. How can I do this?

Example:
Private Sub AxNtlxImage_Reason(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As AxNTLXIMAGELib._DNtlxImageEvents_ReasonEvent) Handles AxNtlxImage.Reason
' TODO: Deal with this reason message
Throw New ArgumentException(e.sText)
End Sub

I want to catch this exception from another procedure when it happens.

Handle Events That Are Thrown By Internet Explorer 8?

Sep 7, 2010

I need to handle events that are thrown by Internet Explorer 8. I am able to handle events associated with the first tab that is created when IE8 launches, but I am unable to handle events if the user creates a new tab or opens a new window. I need to handle events of all tabs (and preferably all new windows as well) that are created by the instance of IE8 that is launched by my application.

Thrown Custom Exception Is Immediately Caught In The Same Catch Block It Is Thrown From?

May 13, 2012

This may be a debugger issue, but here goes:I have this piece of code:

Private Function Connect() As Boolean
Try
sessionBegun = False[code].....

My intention is to 'convert' the low level exception into something more meaningful, so I throw an exception of my own creation. I want this to bubble up to a place where I can handle it.However what is happening is my debugger breaks and tells me that an exception of type "QuickBooksConnectionException" was thrown.I know that, I just threw it, why are you catching it? From what I've read, this ought to work, and there doesn't appear to be an analogous Java throws keyword, so perhaps it is my debugger.

Getting A New Session In IE Using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer?

Jun 4, 2010

We are using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer in VB.Net to navigate to a web page and insert the login credentials since we have to log into multiple accounts throughout the day. We want to be able to be logged into to multiple accounts in different windows at the same time, but I don't know how to get a new session started.If I log into account A, and then try to log into account B, it opens a new window but is automatically account A, since the browser remembers being logged in with that session.Is there a newSession or something similar that I can call that will get around this problem?

Edit: is this something can can be done using the Navigate function by setting a header?

Hide Browser Control In SHDocVw.InternetExplorer?

Sep 22, 2010

I need to temporarily hide the control in SHDocVw.InternetExplorer (IE8) that displays the contents of a web page. Setting the SHDocVw.InternetExplorer.Visible property causes the entire form to be hidden. I only need to temporarily hide the control that displays the web page (i.e., the control that is analogous to System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser in .Net). The Internet Explorer form and all other controls (including the tab that is associated with the web page) should remain visible.

My first thought is to iterate through all of the child controls of SHDocVw.InternetExplorer, search for the control that displays the web page and then set its Visible property, but I'm not sure how to do this because SHDocVw.InternetExplorer is a COM object.

IOException Not Getting Thrown

Mar 4, 2012

I'm a learning VB.NET programmer that just ran in to some trouble. I'm creating a TCPClient/Server chat room application. When a client connect to the server, the server creates an object that represents the client and stores the reference to this object in an ArrayList. This "IndividualClient" object begins listening for messages, just strings, from the actual client program using a new thread that runs NetworkStream.Read. Now, when the client program is closed, the server-side IndividualClient object is supposed to throw an IOException at the NetworkStream.Read method, but this exception is never thrown, and I'm not able to catch it and handle the disconnecting of the client. With the client not disconnecting and never being removed from the ArrayList, all kinds of problems start to arise when the server tries to send a message to all connected clients.[code]

.net - Check If A Program Has Thrown An Exception?

Mar 22, 2012

I'm working on a status monitoring program for my company and we need to be able to know if a process on a remote machine is hanging due to not responding (that I can do) or if it's thrown an unhandled exception. I've tried a number of things from checking the CPU usage of the process to checking if the process has gone idle. Nothing has really been reliable. Is there anyway to do this? All the programs we'll be monitoring are running on either .NET 3.5 or 4.0.

I compiled a version of the program that put a simple msgbox that displayed "I'm working right now" first thing in the sub that handles me.startup. The program doesn't even get that far. I've tryed repairing .net 2.0... and completely uninstalling 2.0 and reinstalling it.

Exception Has Been Thrown By Target Of An Invocation.

Jan 15, 2012

I'm working on an application that contains a "BackgroundWorker", the "BackgroundWorker" worked fine but after I started to change some stuff it gives me an error ("Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.")... I used a breakpoint to see where it happens, the exception gets thrown at the "End Sub" line of the BackgroundWorker.I then deleted all the code inside of it and ran it again.I still get the error.

Exception Has Been Thrown By Target Of Invocation

Feb 27, 2009

What is the meaning of this error message?
"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

Instead of words, here is my code's logic :
while loop
run BGworker01
run BGworker02
...
run BGworker09
application.doEvents
thread.sleep(10)
end while

All the bgWorkers do the same thing (sending some data, only to different locations). When I run this loop with only 1 Background-Worker, it's all fine, but when I add the other bgWorkers i get the mentioned error at the "application.doEvents" part of the loop. I think it also points to another place (highlighted in green) inside one of the bgworker's code :
Dim FileStreamToSend As FileStream = New FileStream(fileToSend, FileMode.Open)
I thought it might be a problem that all bgWorkers are trying to read from the same file together, but when I tried using different file for each bgWorker, the problem persisted.

Exception Has Been Thrown By The Target Of An Invocation?

Jan 21, 2011

I know this is a relatively common error but I am working in an application that allows custom reports to be written using vb.net or C# for scripting. Error handling is very poor and I am not knowledgable enough to add my own (if it is even possible).

My code simply retrieves a value that is stored in a textbox on the report formatted as LastName, FirstName and truncates all characters after the comma. This value LastName is placed in a new textbox on the report. Here is my code:

Sub Detail1_Format
Dim lastNameFirstName As String = ""
Dim lastName As String = ""

[Code]....

The error happens when I use lastNameCommaIndex to set the number of characters in my substring. If I replace it with a number the report is published properly.
