Datagridview Column Order From Linq Query?
Mar 19, 2010I am using a modal form with a datagridview in order to populate textboxes on a parent form. The datagridview is bound to an anonymous type resulting from a linq query, which varies depending on the textbox control whose keypress event is called. I always want to display a key value in column 0 of the datagridview (along with a variable number of additional columns), and then use that key value once the user selects a row.
However, when setting an anonymous type from a linq query as the datasource for a datagridview control, the columns are indexed alphabetically rather than in the sequence selected in the query. This requires setting the displayindex as a workaround, and then keeping track of which column contains my key value. I read elsewhere that this was something fixed in VS2008 SP1, but I still encounter the behavior.

I tried to use the query directly as a DataSource of a (infragistic) combobox, but it throws me NullReferenceException, so I decided to convert it to a listof strings, to be a more "classical" datasource.

does not work either: Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of System.Linq.IQueryable(Of String))' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of String)'.

Looking at that query its easy to spot whats causing the error. Simply, the most inner query only returns 2 columns, while the query right above it is trying to SELECT 3, thus the Unknown Column Error. So why is this happening? What is wrong with my LINQ query?

What's happening is that if i set a break-point to the constructor of Foo and step, the constructor is hit and the parameters are loaded with the arguments. However, l has empty Foo objects (the members in every object are Nothing). What could be happening here?

How can i write a linqToXML query so that it returns me an IEnumerable containing each child element, in this case all five child elements of , so that i could iterate over them. The order of child elements is not definite, neither is number of times the may appear.

Jun 30, 2011Could not find this through Google or in SO questions.I have a checkbox listbox on my form. I want to filter my List by the list of selected Ids from that listbox that are checked, in SQL I would have done this like "Where TypeId In (1, 4, 5, 7)"... how do I do that in LINQ?
I feel like I am missing a really obvious answer, but cannot get it.

Apr 5, 2012GOAL: Bind nested ListViews to LINQ generated iQueryable of anonymous type. I want to use LINQ because you can use GroupBy and bind the nested ListView to the 'it' keyword.
SETUP: I have groups of sets of conditions. Each set of conditions is stored in the BillingCodes table. Each group of BillingCodes is stored in the BillingGroups table.
I have a custom object that stores the ID, Name, and NumCodes for each BillingGroup that the user has chosen.I have a collection of these objects called GroupsList that has a list of the groups that the user has chosen.
Problem 1: I can iterate through GroupsList and grab all the IDs. How do I translate the SQL 'WHERE ID IN(a string of comma delineated IDs)' for LINQ to SQL? Is that the best way to do that?
Problem 2: Once I have the list of BillingGroups I need to iterate through each group. For each group, I need to iterate through the BillingCodes. For each BillingCode I need to generate a WHERE clause that has all of the conditions in the BillingCode. I propose something like so:

Sep 22, 2009I know that LINQ queries are deferred and only executed when the query is enumerated, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly when that happens.Certainly in a For Each loop, the query would be enumerated.What's the rule of thumb to follow? I don't want to accidentally enumerate over my query twice if it's a huge result.
For example, does System.Linq.Enumerable.First enumerate over the whole query? I ask for performance reasons. I want to pass a LINQ result set to an ASP.NET MVC view, and I also want to pass the First element separately. Enumerating over the results twice would be painful.It would be great to turn on some kind of flag that alerts me each time a LINQ query is enumerated. That way I could catch scenarios when I accidentally enumerate twice.

Sep 14, 2010I have to join two main tables, and I need to filter the results by elements in an ASP.NET web form. These filters are created on the fly so I have to use a lot of where extensions to filter the query. I want to execute the query with as optimized SQL as possible.
I am first doing a simple join between TW_Sites and TW_Investigators. Then there are two sub-tables that are involved. TW_InvestigatorToArea and TW_InvestigatorToDisease. While most of the where clauses are working fine, I have found a performance issue that won't be an issue right now, but will be an issue as the table gets bigger.
The arrays DiseaseCategories and DiseaseAreas would be the results of a CheckBoxList result.

Deleting From A Cascaded DataGridView Populated Via Linq To SQL?
Nov 18, 2009I am having problems deleting any rows from a cascaded DGV. I get a run time error complaining that I am breaking a constraint almost as if LINQ is try to delete from the parent table. I have 2 DGVs on a form one displaying Species and the other all SubSpecies for the currently selected species and that works fine.
However when I try to delete a SubSpecies I get the following exception:- An attempt was made to remove a relationship between a Species and a SubSpecies. However, one of the relationship's foreign keys (SubSpecies.SpeciesID) cannot be set to null. At first I thought the error was raised by SQL server due to the Cascading Delete limitations on L2S but the error message for that is very different the DataContext.Log doesn't show any attempt to change the data.

Excel Column Deleting Program?
May 27, 2010I have a server that exports a file to our server every wed and sat. The file is a .csv file, so I created a batch file to move that to a folder and rename it to .xls. My problem is that there are things on that excel file that that the dealership doesn't want, like a cost column and some other blank ones i need to delete. So I want to write a program that will read that file into the program, delete the columns, and then write it back to file. So when they go into the excel file those columns won't be there. So i have to do this to 3 different ones because there are 3 different dealerships. So far this is what I have. I would like to create this on a Console App, because I want to be able to just run this from the dos prompt, or I think I'm just going to have a schedule run it for me at a specific time on wed and sat. But this was created in the Forms App
