Asp.net - Return Two Tables From A Stored Procedure From LINQ To SQL?

Aug 4, 2011

I have written a stored procedure like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[TestProcedure]
AS
BEGIN
SELECT TOP 1 CampaignID FROM Campaigns
SELECT TOP 1 ServiceID FROM Services ORDER BY ServiceID desc
END

In my .NET Project, I have a LINQ to SQL file (.dbml) and I have drag-and-dropped this procedure to create a new class TestProcedureResult:

Partial Public Class TestProcedureResult
Private _CampaignID As Integer
Public Sub New()

[Code]....

So it is not returning ServiceID. How can I retreive ServiceID using LINQ to SQL? I know we can customize stored procedure calls, but how can I customize in this particular scenario?

LINQ Stored Procedure Return Value To A String Array?

Mar 24, 2011

I have a stored procedure in DBML and I try to pass the result to "sqlQryArray" as an array(1 dimensional array). But the bottom code causes error like below message. What else should be done?

Error 1 Value of type '1-dimensional array of aaaDatabase.stp_GetSomethingResult' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String' because 'aaaDatabase.stp_GetSomethingResult' is not derived from 'String'.

The return result from stored procedure is a just list of first names of students(only one column)

Dim sqlQry = aaaLINQ.stp_GetSomething(bbb,ccc,ddd)
Dim sqlQryArray As String() = sqlQry.ToArray()

LINQ Query Is Enumerated - Turn On Some Kind Of Flag That Alerts Me Each Time A LINQ Query Is Enumerated?

Sep 22, 2009

I know that LINQ queries are deferred and only executed when the query is enumerated, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly when that happens.Certainly in a For Each loop, the query would be enumerated. What's the rule of thumb to follow? I don't want to accidentally enumerate over my query twice if it's a huge result.

For example, does System.Linq.Enumerable.First enumerate over the whole query? I ask for performance reasons. I want to pass a LINQ result set to an ASP.NET MVC view, and I also want to pass the First element separately. Enumerating over the results twice would be painful. It would be great to turn on some kind of flag that alerts me each time a LINQ query is enumerated. That way I could catch scenarios when I accidentally enumerate twice.

Linq To SQL Performance Using Contains?

Jun 1, 2009

I'm overloading a vb.net search procedure which queries a SQL database.One of the older methods i'm using as a comparison uses a Stored Procedure to perform the search and return the query.My new method uses linq.I'm slightly concerned about the performance when using contains queries with linq. I'm looking at equally comparable queries using both methods.Basically having 1 where clause to Here are some profiler results;

Where name = "ber10rrt1"
Linq query : 24reads
Stored query : 111reads

[code]....

Forgetting for a moment, the indexes (not my database)... The fact of the matter is that both methods are fundamentally performing the same query (albeit the stored procedure does reference a view for [some] of the tables). Is this consitent with other peoples experiance of linq to sql? Also, interestingly enough;Using like "BER10%"

resultset.Where(Function(c) c.ci.Name.StartsWith(name))

Results in the storedproc using 13125reads and linq using 8172reads?

.net - Performance And Linq In Iterations?

Mar 16, 2012

These 2 ways of working both work, but I'm wondering if there's a difference in performance:

Dim collection As ItemCollection = CType(CellCollection.Where(Function(i) i.IsPending = True), ItemCollection)
For Each item As Item In collection
'Do something here
Next

and

For Each item As Item In CellCollection.Where(Function(i) i.IsPending = True)
'Do something here
Next

I thought the second one was better as you'd have a variable less and looks cleaner, but on second thought, I'm not quite sure what happens when you put a linq query in the iteration.

Use Stored Procedures With LINQ To SQL?

Oct 21, 2008

I am trying to use stored procedures with LINQ to SQL to perform insert, update, and delete operations. My update and delete procedures implement optimistic concurrency by checking the original values retrieved from the database with the current values in the database. A row count is returned to indicate if the row was updated. When I execute SubmitChanges on the data context to update the database, everything works fine except that the generated code doesn't check for concurrency. (I configured the insert, update, and delete operations to use the data context methods created from the stored procedures using the O/R Designer, and I assigned the original object properties to the method arguments.) I can customize the generated code so it works properly, but I know that I shouldn't do that because I'll lose the changes if the code is regenerated. I also know that I can add a partial class to extend the data context, but I don't know how to implement the methods correctly. All I really need to do is to have the methods return the row count, but, of course, that's not an acceptable method overload. I know that I can also call the methods directly rather than calling SubmitChanges, but it seems like this is intended to work with SubmitChanges.

Asp.net - Complex Linq Query - Add A .Where() Or .Any() Predicate To Reduce Query Complexity (in VB)?

Sep 14, 2010

I have to join two main tables, and I need to filter the results by elements in an ASP.NET web form. These filters are created on the fly so I have to use a lot of where extensions to filter the query. I want to execute the query with as optimized SQL as possible.

I am first doing a simple join between TW_Sites and TW_Investigators. Then there are two sub-tables that are involved. TW_InvestigatorToArea and TW_InvestigatorToDisease. While most of the where clauses are working fine, I have found a performance issue that won't be an issue right now, but will be an issue as the table gets bigger.

The arrays DiseaseCategories and DiseaseAreas would be the results of a CheckBoxList result.

Protected Sub LoadResults()
'Get Dictionary of Filters
Dim FilterDictionary As OrderedDictionary = Session.Item("InvestigatorFilterDictionary")
' Initialize LinqToSql

Sql Server - Converting Complex Sql Stored Proc Into Linq

Jan 24, 2011

I'm using Linq to Sql and have a stored proc that won't generate a class. The stored proc draws data from multiple tables into a flat file resultset. The amount of data returned must be as small as possible, the number of round trips to the Sql Server need to be limited, and the amount of server-side processing must be limited as this is for an ASP.NET MVC project. So, I'm trying to write a Linq to Sql Query however am struggling to both replicate and limit the data returned. Here's the stored proc that I'm trying to convert:

.net - Should Use LINQ For This Query

Sep 4, 2009

I've been reading a fair bit about the performance of using LINQ rather than using a for each loop and from what I understand using a LINQ query would be a little bit slower but generally worth it for convenience and expressiveness. However I am a bit confused about how much slower it is if you were to use the results of the query in a for loop.

Let's say that I have a set called 'Locations' and a set of objects called 'Items'. Each 'item' can only belong to one 'location'. I want to link items that are under the same location to each other. If I were to do this using a normal 'For Each' loop it would be something like this:

For Each it as Item in Items
If it.Location.equals(Me.Location)
Me.LinkedItems.Add(it)
End If
Next

However if i was to use LINQ it would instead be this:

For Each it as Item in Items.Where(Function(i) i.Location.equals(Me.Location))
Me.LinkedItems.Add(it)
Next

is the second (LINQ) option going to loop once through the entire 'Items' set to complete the query, then loop through the results to add them to the list, resulting in essentially two loops, or will it do the one loop like the first (For Each) option?
