ListBox Control Proving Difficult?

I'm writing an application; I have an Advanced Tree control and a ListBox control. When I populate the ListBox programmatically, using a function that returns a ListBoxItem, it adds the field fine, but displaying incorrectly; it doesn't just add say "My item," it adds "ListViewItem: {My item}"
When I add the item using just a string, it adds fine but I need to use the return function to set the tag data and such, but when I use that function, it adds the above which is really annoying.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the SerialPort class I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on. Specifically, writing to the port appears to work without incident. However, reading data is proving problematic. Initially I thought it was my hardware, but testing suggested the fault lied in software. I was able to confirm this with the installation of a loopback device on the port. It tends to be missing bytes, inserting bad bytes, and shifting bytes randomly.

I have been learning VB.NET since the summer and I was wondering if it makes sense for me to skip learning the things in VB.NET that I do not know and move on to C#.
I think I may be more comfy in C# because I have been using Actionscript 3 for over two years and have toyed with Java and C.
On the other hand, I've never done anything serious with C or Java.
So, finish VB.NET or learn C#?

It seems very difficult to find information on the use of DirectX with Visual Basic. MSDN gives a full list of methods, properties, enums etc but very little in the way of code examples. C++ and C# are better served.Why is Visual Basic (a terrific coding platform) so neglected in this area?

When editing my code in vb.net, my cursor is a flashing box and it makes it difficult to change one character. I would like to get the i-beam back instead of the flashing box when editing code. Can't seem to find a setting anywhere.

"First of all please TURN OPTION STRICT ON.I make no apology for the capitals - I consider it that important.When you do you will see that you are still using HorizontalAlignment instead of ContentAlignment.VB is converting from one to the other for you.Although that works fine here there are many cases when it will not be what you intended and can cause some very hard to find bugs.Under Tools | Options | Projects and Solutions | VB Defaults Set: Option Strict ON, Option Explicit ON, Option Infer OFF".I did do this but it showed no errors, so I placed 'Option Strict On' at the start of the code, it then showed HorizontalAlignment with the squiggly line. I did edit my code to show this but I think you must have read it before I did. All other suggestions I will note and from now try to implement.Using "magic numbers" in the code is not good practice and makes maintenance difficult.Declare all such numbers at the top and use the names in the code.Is this what you mean? Now when ever I refer in code to SpinTime it will always be 500..Change the NumberOfBoxes to 10 and run the app.In mine, to change boxes to 10 I needed to alter the code in 5 places, in yours 1 place! Talk about proof of the pudding etc.Now to my question, in the program when the start button is clicked and the five random numbers are displayed I have to stop and restart the program to generate five more. So I thought I would create another button 'Reset' this I did and all worked but it seemed a waste so I then just kept the start button in place and changed the text to Reset eg [code] This is fine the one thing I can't figure is how to replace the five numbers that were removed so that it is picking 5 from 500 every time. Now I'm at the end of all this writing I have it! just comment out the line 'Numbers.Remove(Number).

I have a ListBox Control containing 5 items. This control displays the current condition and allows the condition to change. The ListBox.SelectedIndex is calculated from the current condition (normally item 2 in the list) and displayed. If the user requires to change this condition the Keyboard Up/Down would be used for navigation (The App is very keyboard intensive), however if the ListBox.SelectedIndex is set at 2 and the keyboard down arrow is pressed the selected item displayed changes to 0 not 3 as required. Is there a way to synchronise the keyboard control with the current selected index?

i have been connected listbox with data set contains 1 table (view) by binding source i need to view 1 field as menu by this listboxbut i need to retrieve other field value when i click on the listbox control bto be able to make query for another table also i tried sucessfully with listboxcontrol.selectedvalue properety and i was sucessfull but when i click on the listbox the selection of raw going to the first item filled in the listbox control how can i set the selection on item as normaly happened when i click on the list box?

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I am trying to set a listbox so it starts to scroll when it hits the middle point of what is viewable on my list. I also want to set it so the list is always visable so you when you reach the bottom of the list you can scroll down to the bottom but if you scroll back up once it reaches that middle point it will start to scroll up again.

I have a listbox control (in a WinForms application) that lists a bunch of statistics about records selected from a database.
Is there an easy way using VB .NET to take the contents of this listbox and send it all to the printer, or at least have one of those standard windows print dialogs come up, prompting the user for which printer to send the listbox contents to? Doesn't have to be fancy or anything.

While user enters character "w" then "w" should appear in the textbox.Now if user enters character "h" then "wh" should appear in the textbox .Now suppose user enters character "e" Then "wh" should remain with a beep means "e" should not be written in the textbox.

I thought I'd embark on a little project, just making a registry editor as the one on WinXP is a little.. Plain and boring, so I thought I'd make my own.I'm having no problems loading the registry into my form, although I'm having difficulty loading the data into a ListBox control.. I am trying to create a custom listbox control by inheriting the default system.windows.controls.listbox class which would automatically select the item based on keyboard input. Currently the listbox provided in Visual Studio is capable of searching only on the first letter, but I am trying to create onw which would select the item based on consecutive keyboard input characters. on the listbox, The control would select Banana upon pressing b,ba,ban etc etc..on keyboard..I am trying to findout the event that get raised when typing is done.

I'm using a list box control and I've specified an item height of 25 and DrawMode of OwnerDrawFixed as well as coded up all the necessary ListBox_DrawItem code to get this to work. My problem is when it displays my list all the items are top justified in the list. I want them to be centered and right justified so when the are selected they are in the center of the highlighted box, not at the top of it. Does anyone know how to do this?

I do not know how to do the search of the datatoenter in a listbox with more then one item. If the item is already in the listbox then exit otherwise add it to the listbox.Threaddisplay adds the data to the listbox which I can do when there is no item yet.

The intended output of the code is to update the listbox1 control at each iteration, but what really happens is it updates the listbox1 control after the entire loop finishes..Is there a way to update the listbox1 control as its intended by the code logic?

I am being forced to us Option Strict in my class and this is a new feature to me. Right now my code is having trouble comparing the current time to be added (A Date) with the list of times (Object). Here is my complete code

I need a 2-listbox mover/selection type control such as the example here: [URL] For over a week now I've searched countless forums and done myriads of googles. All I've been able to find is C++ or ASP based stuff. I really would like this to be VB.net, but at this point, I'd even settle for C#.
I've taken a shot at developing it myself, but am too new to the .Net world to really get anywhere with it other than being completely overwhelmed and frustrated. I've even looked at some 3rd party custom control webistes, and am even willing to spend a few bucks for this thing, if I could find one that suits my needs.

I'm trying to build a custom ListBox control as inspired by the 'Audi Infotainment System' on high-end Audi vehicles. The only difference is i would like to have a 'boundary' where when scrolling up/down moves the actual list up or down. Basically, i would like my list to act like a normal ListBox except i would like to show say one or two items above and below normally only visible items.

Okay, so the title was horrible. I know that. Here's what I'm trying to do:I have a lot of data that's coming from a database and being adding to a listbox. The data that's coming from the database is a unique ID, and a name. Is there any way I can make the item contain both the ID and name? I know I can append it, that's not what I'm looking to do.
