how to specify a custom icon for display in the toolbox window when you create your own custom control? Something other than the dreaded "gearbox" icon.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to build a custom ListBox control as inspired by the 'Audi Infotainment System' on high-end Audi vehicles. The only difference is i would like to have a 'boundary' where when scrolling up/down moves the actual list up or down. Basically, i would like my list to act like a normal ListBox except i would like to show say one or two items above and below normally only visible items.

This is an experiment to learn something.
I have a class called logitem
it has a datetime property, and a message as string property
I have declared myLogEntries as List(of logItem)
I have a ListBox.
Ok now what?
I have searched but i am getting lost in all the examples.
I have set the ItemsSource=myLogEntries
I think i need a datatemplate or maybe to specify binding source.
I am doing all this in the wpf form loaded event.
I guess i need a sample code for binding a list of collection to a listbox.
So, I'm working on a custom LitBox that accepts custom items. needed the item collection to be more than just strings, I needed to be able to store avalue to display in the listbox and an associated value (Property: Text) that holds an index value (Property: Tag) of DataTable I'm working with.I have created the new item (iListBoxItem) and the collection (iListBoxItemCollection) and have modified everything so that I can do normal Collection type methods (Add, InsertAt, RemoveAt, etc) to this collection.
vb
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class iListBox

View 7 RepliesI have been asked to build a custom wizard control in VB.NET for a windows forms project. It has been made very clear to me that I am not "allowed" to utilize existing wizard controls on the internet due to some obscure logic surrounding copyrights. It has also been made clear to me that we are not "allowed" to use usercontrols in the software.

This is similar to my last post but with a different purpose.I have built a custom control, but when I set the properties for it... ALL instances of that control on my page grab the exact same property. I need to be able to set the property to "abc" for one instance of the control on my page, and then set the exact same proprty to "xyz" for a different instance of the control on the same page.

I know that you can create custom formats for the DateTimePicker control, and I've googled this but is there any way that you can allow a user to only select Sunday dates in a Month with this control?
View 11 RepliesI'm trying to create a simple transparent PANEL control. I want to create a custom control based on the existing Panel Control with a property added called "transparent" which can be set to true or false. If it's set to true it's transparent(not invisible). So if I place it over some controls in a form say a button or text box... they are visible but disabled.

I have previously used the arguments of a contentsResized event on a Winforms richtextbox to get the new size of my RTB. I am now developing a WinForms app with a custom WPF RichTextBox. My whole reason for doing this is to use the out-of-the-box spellchecker. I need my RichTextBox to expand and collapse vertically as the text is changed. The elementhost will also have to resize to allow the whole RTB to display on-screen.

View 8 RepliesI want to create a custom control that has a cursor like a regular text box, I tried using a line and a timer that makes the line 'Blink', but that wasn't too reliable because I had to change the location and background in the timer... I guess I could do it, but I wanted to ask my question here.
Basically what I am doing is creating a custom control to allow inputs as in fractions, sub/superscripts, etc.... The TextBox Control doesn't support text in that many locations.
I've created a custom user control that has several properties. One specifies which database I want the control to access. I want to be able to present the user of the control a drop down from which he can select which database the control will interact with. How do I get the dropdown to work? I can get default values, but have yet to figure out how to get the selectable list.
View 4 RepliesIs it possible to create a user control with a list of custom class type property? If it is, how can I? The issue is that, in designer mode the property is not displayed in property window. I can add the list on markup but when i switch to the designer mode it gives an error which is 'The user control does not have a public property named BookList'.
View 1 RepliesI've search the net in order to create a custom control but nothing I find is worth looking at, The main thing I want to do is create a skinengin via DLL and import it in my vb 2010 then using or creating some sort of skin builder where I can create a full setting file which contains all the details of the customization regarding the Form(Look, Feel and the controls such as a menu), I have used Iriskin and multiple apps doing this for me and when a user installs my application they still recieve a message about buying the registered DLL file, I would like to create it completely from scratch.

I am using custom textboxes and I need to be able to set the Text on txb1 based on the Text of txb2. I have simplied my code to the following:
Public Class customtextbox
Inherits TextBox
Public Event ControlReset()
[Code]....
So, when txb1 looses focus, if its Text is "fried", then it sets off txb2's ProcessAlert function. I had tried to change the value of txb2 Text in ProcessAlert function, but didnt work, so I tried to get it to raise an event instead, which then tries to set the Text property. However I still cant set txb2's Text property. The Text property seems to be set for the duration of the "life" of the Event handler. When I step through the forms controls within the Event handler, the changed Text value is there, but not outside of the Event handler.
With VB.net, I'm coding a simple application to get more used to the new .Net format.
I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file
I've created my own ascx control with button inside it. Now I'm using this control inside other control. (In my case it is a webpart). What I would like to do is program button.click logic from my custom control inside webpart
