VS 2008 Loading File Into Array?

Jan 22, 2011

I have a Customer File, and want to serach through the customer file to find a customer. I want to be able to Load the data into an array, and then from that array into the list view. BUT i don't want all of the feilds. I only want 3 (out of a total of 7), CUST ID, FNAME, Lname, etc. When the user clicks on the searched Customer, it then displays that customer in the form.

What I am not sure about doing is loading the file into an array

Edit: The file is a .dat file. I will happily attached my form if someone requires it

EDIT2: Can't count to 7

I need to load a CSV file into a set of arrays, and show the output into a listbox, which are associated with other textboxes(labels). earlier i had the names all loading into the listbox, but the values in the label were only correct for the last line in the csv file, not corresponding correctly to the listbox values.

VB 2010 Array/write Array To File?

Dec 3, 2011

I'm close to getting this to work, but currently can't get any output to display in the listbox. I had it working, but needed to move some things around to get the join function to work.In my program, a user enters input into a textbox and an array is displayed in a listbox based on what they type in. For example, if they type in "a", all foods (in the textfile that is connected to the program) that start with "a" will be displayed.

When there is output, I need to find a way to name this array (which is created based on what the user inputs) and join all of the items in the listbox (example: foods stacked on top of each other in the listbox will be shown at the bottom as a string).I am posting the code that I have thus far; all of the errors that I'm getting (and potentially my logic errors) are just in the first public class until the end of the first if-next statement:

Public Class frmFoods
Dim foods() As String = IO.File.ReadAllLines("foods.txt")
Private Sub btnDisplay_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplay.Click

Loading Array Elements Into Listbox?

why my code doesn't work? I want the array elements to be loaded into a listbox when the button is clicked. Is it because not all elements in my array have been filled? I've tried putting the array declaration as a global variable and as a local one (below), but the same error occurs as soon as the button is clicked - "ArgumentNullException was unhandled".

Loading An Array List On Form Load?

May 8, 2009

Okay, so I have been developing my own MP3 player recently, and now I thought I would make the player remember what songs were in the playlist when it shut down. It now remembers the playlist file that was used last, but I would still rather make it so that it remembers all the songs without saving the playlist.

I've been using a setting to save the playlist file, but when I try this:

...it doesn't work. The savedSongs is a System.Collections.ListArray. Heres the code at Form_Load I'm using at the moment.

Dim loadSongs As New System.Collections.ArrayList
loadSongs = ExperimentalPlayer.My.Settings.savedSongs
lbl_songname.Text = ""

[Code].....

Should I use some other kind of variable to save the filepaths? Well, the other option is that I use a text file for that, but I'd rather make it like this.

Loading Results Into An Array To Be Used For Displaying Just Partial

Jul 14, 2009

The assignment called for a VB.Net (not web based) program that would accept user input for the loan amount, interest rate, and term of loan, and display the monthly payment of the loan then list the loan balance and interest paid over the term of the loan. the list will be longer than the screen so use loops to display a partial list, hesitate, and then display more of the list. So, I did exactly that and the program works fine. However, after submitting this program for grading, The instructor for the class tells me, "One thing you should work on is not using a timer to pause.

You should not use a scroll bar either." He says I should work on loading the results into an array or use a loop with a counter that can be used to display a given number of results with a more results button for displaying more (but without a scroll bar?). Like I said, this program works fine and I am not asking anyone for any specific code (some sort of example would be great but not necessary) What I am asking for is an explanation of how I would go about loading results into an array to be used for displaying just partial results at a time in some way other than I used here: [Code]

VS 2010 Read CSV File To Multidimensional Array

Feb 1, 2012

I'm working on a new application for one of my Managing Editors at my company. We are wanting to build an application that only has 4 combo boxes for user options and then according to the options that the user selects, the application will spit out 3 random lines of text that can be copy and pasted into another application that we use.We are in the process of creating a rather large (1000's of lines) CSV file that we are going to use as a repository for the text. Let's call the data file SRG9000Data.csv..I'm almost 100% certain that I'm going to need to read in the entire datafile as an multidimensional array because we are setting up the CSV file as follows:[code]For each of THOSE categories, I'm looking at having 8 possible items for <Sports>, and 3 items for <PlayType>, <GameImpact>, and <Scoring>. <Text> is being use as a possible Text Phrase that the system can select from randomly provided that the other area's of the array are met.The CSV file will have 1000's of lines. Of those, the system will "filter" though all of them so that ONLY the ones that meet the selected criteria can be used, then choose 3 of them randomly and use that as output.

Extra information: I am currently establishing that the CSV file being used is setup as 0-7 for <Sports> (0 = Baseball, 1 = Basketball, etc..), 0-2 for <PlayType> (0 = Defensive, 1 = Offensive, 2 = Other), 0-2 for <GameImpact> (Negative, Neutral, Positive), and 0-2 for <Scoring> (0 = Non-Scoring, 1 = Other, 2 = Scoring); <Text> is a String.I am clueless when it comes to setting up an array like this; It's been many many MANY a year since I worked with array's in QB and I feel I may need more than a refresher course.Now, if I'm understanding correctly from some of the forum lurking i've been doing, multidimensional arrays CANNOT be of mixed type, correct? If this is the case, the how can I read the entire CSV file into an "array" (if you will) so that it contains Integers AND a String? [code]

VS 2010 Saving A Intptr Array In Structure To File?

Jul 16, 2010

i need to save an array of intptrs as a part of a structure in a file, vb.net gives me "File I/O of a structure with field 'pList' of type 'IntPtr' is not valid." error, ok i figured and tried to convert them to integers and while it worked for other singular intptrs it did not for the array as it just throws me a conversion error. I then tried rebuilding the array in the new sub of the save structure and while that sorta worked(i think) it then gives a "bad size" error when saving. Im out of ideas, saving the array elements one by one would be suicide as the amount varies and is well in hundreds,
