This statement works fine in ASP, but when I switch to ASP.Net, it give errors 'ReDim' cannot change the number of dimensions of an array.
I have this recently converted application from vb6 to vb.net 2008. One of the errors stated is:'Point' is not a member of 'System. Windows. Forms. PictureBox'.I have searched and not found an alternative to this.Also, it says ReDim cannot change the number of dimensions in an array.

The only thing I can do for now is either use the substring function to remove the first character from all array values after 0 but I don't like that because it's messy and what if the split "works" as I want it to one one of the lines and knocks of the first character when I don't want it to.
The code below is the entire class that has the error in it... the errored code is highlighted in red. The error is,'ReDim' cannot change the number of dimensions of an array.

When i port it over to VB.NET, i encountered error message 'ReDim' cannot change the number of dimensions of an array. for the line highlighted in red. And I suspect that VB.NET need to always define the exact dimension of the array during the declaration. But for the function above, for the array of 'MyMat()', I do not know what is the exact dimension every time it runs, and that is why i need to check the dimension of the array.My question is do we have any solution in dealing unknown dimension array in VB.NET? As in VB6, we can just define Array() instead of Array (,) in VB.NET.

Is there a way to see how many lines are in a text file? This also includes blank lines. I have seen a lot of code in this forum before related to my question, but they stop if there is a blank line. I want it to be so that if there are like 10 blank lines
View 1 RepliesBasically, every time an entry is made - all of the proper data gets put out to a central Listings.txt file and then a specific .txt file for that area. When the user enters the recall form, they can view the listings for all or whichever area they've selected. That works quite fine. However! We also need to include a summary of how many are in each section. Not thinking properly, I started to do this with a counter - until I realized that a counter will lose its value once the program shuts down. My current idea is to count the number of lines in the text file (it outputs 8 lines per listing, so everything would be in values of 8) and then divide that by 8 - but after some searching I haven't been able to find a piece of code that will allow me to get an integer that relates to the amount of individual lines in the file.

I am adding line entries in a .ini file. The problem is, I am creating duplicate lines in the file, which I do not want to do. I searched this issue online, and the consensus is to use an array, loop through for duplicates and create a new file. I am trying to turn data in a text file seperated by spaces into a 2D array.
It is for a math game. The data is statistics based on the performance of the user. One line looks like this "John Doe 0 0 1 3 0 6 0 22"
I need to put the line into an array and then be able to search by name to display the results. I keep getting extra spaces in the input of the array so the data isnt where it should be. It seems that the first entry works correctly, but appended lines do not enter correctly.

I have a windows form with a textbox and a button, what I am trying to do is enter a number in the textbox and when clicked on the button to cut and paste the data in to a new text file (from number 0 to the number I entered).ie, textfile 1 has 100 lines of data, I enter 25 and press OK I would like to take the first 25 lines and save them into a new text file and save the remaining lines in textfile 1 so it should be like textfile1 75 lines and textfile2 25 lines.The closest I've come to this is the following but this only deletes the one line..[code]

I have a text file with user names in them on separate lines. I want to check to see if any of the lines doesn't match the exact text im checking for. It doesn't matter what line the text is on, as long as it is in there. If it's not, alert me. Previously i tried .contains() but obviously if a user name is "hello" and another's is "helloworld" it will match both of them.So basically i need to read all the lines in the txt file and if none of them lines contains the specific text im looking for then alert me. View 5 RepliesI have the following code to read a csv file and copy each line to another file as long as it does not contain certain strings, it seems to work a little but it leaves some lines in it shouldn't, and it's also taking lines out it shouldn't as if I keep running it again on each output file it eventually takes everything out!

I'm new here and I'm trying to make a little program with Visual Basic (2010 Express Edition).The purpose of this program is:
1) Load the text file lines and split them into a constant and a value
2) Edit the text file lines values
The content of the text file is like this:

This basically split every lines in two parts: the constant ("Name", "Surname", "Age", "Hair") and the values ("Mario", "Rossi", "50", "Black").Now about the second point, I've added a Button1 which should take the Textbox1/2.Text and the Combobox1 selected item and replace the values(aka separator(1)) in the text file. The problem is I don't have any idea at the moment how to do it. What method should I use?

I have a text file containing lines of data (File 1). I need to delete all the lines in another text file (File 2), which are found in file 1.So I could read file 2 line by line. And then once the line has been read, read file 1 line by line to search for a match. But that's going to be painfully slow.Or I could read file 2 into memory. And then read file 1 line by line and REPLACE the lines in file 2 with nothing, therefore deleting them. File 2 could be 100 mb, so I'm not sure about reading it all into memory.
