I'm making a card game and I want to try and design my own card deck.
Dim X As Integer
Dim currentCard As Integer, currentCard2 As Integer
Dim RandomNumbers As New Random()
Dim NumberofCards As Integer
[code]....
I started a basic vb.net class for my fall semester of high school, and although I've learned a lot, my goal since the start of the semester has been to do this. I realize there are simpler way of assigning card values than writing 52 if then statements, but I'm planning on doing other things with the statements. As you can see, my main plan of action is to generate a random number for each card, loop through the array list to make sure the random number representing that card hasn't been assigned before, use the value to select the card, and then add the randomly selected number to the array list so it won't be used again (non-repeating random numbers).
1) I'm trying to represent all the numbers with Numberlist.Item(X) and that doesn't work because either a) x represents any one number or b) x always represents only 0, which means it only checks the first number.
2) I think I've read something about using this method for generating random numbers in a loop, that it doesn't work for some reason.
I am working on a code that should capture the color of a pixel in a bitmap and then check if the 8 surrounding pixels have the same color. If the checked surrounding pixel HAS NOT the same color it will be ignored, otherwise if it HAS the same color, it should check for its own 8 surrounding pixels and so on.
To do that, I have created an array that starts with a single entry (the x,y coordinates of the initial pixel). So, when a pixel with the same color is found it is pushed to the end of the array. I used a for each loop supposing that VB would keep looping until the end of my array - and since it is growing, the last position of the array would be always pushed until I have not more pixels to be checked.
The problem is that VB is not respecting it, and is considering my array as if it had just 1 entry. Seems that it catch the size of the array when it enters the loop, and regardless the fact I have pushed new items to the array it doesnt keep looping it.
How can I force VB to update the end of array position while looping it? Although I think it wouldnt be necessary, here it goes the code I have so far...
I have a program that will compare an array of grocery list items glist and an array of coupon item clist. When I compare the two and if there is a match somewhere in the array I want to have a picturebox visible. When there is no match, I want the picture box not to be visible. [code] The code seems to work great until I come to the else statement. When the code finds a match it displays the picture box and the msgbox without error, but as soon as the message box is cleared, even though i've input it as an ELSE statement, the picturebox goes false again.Does anyone have any idea of how I can "hold" the picturebox to stay visible while the match between the arrays exists?
I am trying something new. I now how to loop through items in a list box but this is where I am stuck. I am looking to loop through my list box and send a email to each email within my list box.I am unsure if I am using the right loop or not. I am using a for loop. Here is what I have so far in code:
Dim smtpserver As New SmtpClient Dim mail As New MailMessage smtpserver.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential(txtUsername.Text, txtPassword.Text)
I am looping through a list for a spellchecker in vb.net (using vs 2010). I want to go through a wrongly spelled word list. Each time the code picks the index that's one higher than the index of the last checked word.
In my version of notquiteVB/Pythonese I think it would translate something like:
(start loop) dim i as Integer = 0 dim word as String
[Code]....
But this doesn't work at all...when it gets to the last item in the list and reaches 'word = ' it throws the error of 'out of range -- must be less than the size of the collection'.
How do you get the last item in a list? Maybe lists aren't what VB uses for this kind of thing?
I want my loop to loop until it reaches the last string in my generic list. I know I could simply insert the last index of the list as an integer but I want to be able to use this if my list grows too. How could I achieve this?
I have a procedure in VB.net using VS.net 2008 which will get the list of Orders and build a XML file with the list of Orders as shown in the code below: As the number of Orders is getting huge, I want to build the XML file for every 500 Orders
[Code]....
Instead of building XML for all the records I want to create XML for each 500 records. I tried the following code and it is throwing an error saying Expression is of type Orders which is not a collection type.
I'm working on a Connect 4 game. I created a rectangle with 42 holes punched out of it (drawn in Panels Paint event) and I have 42 circles (created with PowerPacks) placed in each punch out. Right now I'm just trying to get the game pieces to drop into place by looping through each column and coloring each punch out sequentially. Here is my
vb.net Public Class Form1 Private Sub Panel1_Paint(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Handles Panel1.Paint e.Graphics.SmoothingMode = Drawing2D.SmoothingMode.HighQuality Dim dimension As Integer = 50 Dim
[code]....
The problem I'm having is with my array of OvalShapes. I declared it as object and I don't think that's right. The for loop under the click event is not producing anything.
I am trying to move through a list "TodaysCard" and print the TimeOfDay.ToString into the first column of every row and to only create the amount of rows that are needed. But am a bit of a novice when it comes to this and can only get it to display the TimeOfDay.ToString value for the first item in the list over and over again. Just wondering how I can get it to iterate through each item properly.
I am trying to loop an array in a sql insert statement but i can't get it working. Below is a demo i'm trying to get it running. I think i am having problem with the declaration of variable in sql statement.
Public Class Form1 Dim arrayValue(5) As Integer Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click[code]......
I am trying to create a multi dimension array that will search each row of the array and total up the number of 0's 1's, 2's, and 3's. I believe that I need to create some sort of looping structure that will search through each row of the array.I have created a listbox that will allow the user to pick which row of the array the program will search. This is what I have created so far, but I am only just learning and I am having trouble wrapping my head around how arrays work. So I'm not sure if I am on the right path or not.
Dim racescores(,) As Integer = {{0, 1, 0, 3, 2}, {1, 0, 2, 0, 0}, {0, 3, 0, 1, 0},
I have a 1-dimensional array that is essentially is written to a csv file. My problem is that after I have loaded the entire array...I wish to write it to the csv file and I'm not sure how to set it up.[code]...
im having some trouble with my loop code. When the isnumeric code detects it not a number it throws the msgbox error message but moveson to the next array for the user to enter a value via inputbox. Is there a way for the program to send the inputbox asking for the value again before moving to the next array?
how to get an array of string from certain datagridviewcolumn,i try using this code,it doesn't work..
For Each row As DataGridViewRow In dgvPaketRow.Rows If Not row.IsNewRow Then Dim str() As String = New String() {row.Cells(0).Value} Dim strRes = String.Join(", ", modCommon.str) msgbox(strRes) End If
I have created a SWAP function that does the swapping if the index value is greater than the index+1 value, with a loop that will iterate through the array (assuming that you dont have to specify how many iterations are required) until the array is sorted.
In VB6 I could set up code to loop through say 10 option buttons to check their values. The code would be something likie this:[code]But in VB .NET it seems that if I use the Controls command as above I cannot use/check the Checked property as Control does not take that as a property of Control. It seems also that I may have to use the Find property of Control as in "Controls.Find" etc.How can I do this in VB .NET? I have a very control intensive application and I must be able to easily loop through controls and check their values without writing out 10 x the code required.
Is there a way of merging (importing or whatver is the correct terminology is) the data from an Array in to a DataTable woithout looping. I already know how to loop through the array to populate the DataTable with new DataRow but I'm looking for something much faster if it exists. I've got a 1 dimensional String array i.e. 'String()' that I need to populate a DataTable with new DataRows.
How can I find a List or Collection of User Controls available within the development enviroment and dynamically add them to a combox by their Name Property. I am looking for something along the lines of:
I don't know if this is doable, maybe with Linq, but I have a List(Of MyType):
Public Class MyType Property key As Char Property description As String End Class
And I want to create a Dictionary(Of Char, MyType) using the key field as the dictionary keys and the values in the List as the dictionary values, with something like:
New Dictionary(Of Char, MyType)(??)
Even if this is doable, internally it will loop through all the List items, I guess?
i have issue returning a list in a web method. here is the code
<WebMethod()> _ Public Function getTags(para_parents As String) As List(Of getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)() Dim context As New PPEntities
[code]....
the error is
Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)'
I am trying to get a count of all the times a byte sequences occurs in another byte sequences. It cannot however re-use a bytes if it already counted them. For example given the string let's assume the byte sequence was k.k it would then find only 3 occurrences rather than 5 because they would be broke down like: [k.k].[k.k].[k.k]. and not like [k.[k].[k].[k].[k].k] where they over lap and essentially just shift 2 to the right.
Ideally the idea is to get an idea how a compression dictionary or run time encoding might look. so the goal would be to get down to just 2 parts, as (k.k.k.) is the biggest and best symbol you can have.
I have a class called Car. Car has a bunch of properties i.e. Car.Color. CarService has a method called GetCars(). Within GetCar, I have a loop that appends a List of, you guessed it.. Cars.[code].....
I get: Value of type '1-dimensional array of Namespace.Car' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of Namespace.Car)'. What would be the best way to convert this 1-dimensional array' back into a List of Cars?
I want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.
I am trying to make a MVP kinda system and I am trying to define and load an array, through the system. Then read it out and it should populate a ListView1 object.I know they are set correct, because the console tells me it's set ok.I know the sample would fill with the same item (a week to be exact) every time i add an item, but that's not the point. Also, is it possible to define the array without the index, i mean now i set it with (6) so it sets 6 blocks for strings, but I would like to be more flexible. Is there a way like in php for example
