i have been searching the web for days and yet to find a clue on how to extract specific data from a flat file, i know how to extract all the data from flat file but not "specific data".
my problem now is that i need to extract a certain data out from a very very messy log file, what i need is to extract the decimal data right after "score=". it is in this format "score=1.938249".
for the decimal data right after "score", it is very random, there is no fix length to this. and also "score" does not fix in a specific position, it could be starting of the string or ending of the string of messy data.

I have no way of changing the XML as it is a 3rd party source. There is no XML element which contains just the as of date and also the table, they are all under the one parent node.

I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I have tried the Find function but I am not sure of the proper syntax. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Excel 2003.

What I would like to do is during the installation of that project is to install a shortcut icon on the desktop that points to the location of the .exe file that was just installed on the user's machine. I have an old VBA application that connects to a database using OLEDB, grabs data, and populates an excel sheet using Excel.QueryTable after the user clicks a button. I'm trying to port this rather large program to VB.NET. I've created a few projects in my solution, one of which being an ExcelWorkBook. I want this workbook to load each time users launch the program and be blank until they click a button which will populate the data.

I found a piace of code on the internet that will export the task list, with hierarchy (see below) but it doesn't include the gantt and I'm having trouble finding even a list of variable names that I could use to try and create one.Here is the code:

After compiling the project it works fine on windows 7 32bit and 64 bit but will not work on server 2003 or xp clients have not checked vista yet, i have verified that .net 4 is installed and i can tell you that i do not get an error message when installing apart from the icon that i have given the project does not appear and is a blank icon on the desktop. When i try to run the program it will try to start i see the service in the task manager and after a while it will error out and crash. I can see the memory usage go from 20,000K to 70.000k.
View 7 RepliesI'm currently working on a project where I am transmitting data from a comm device via the serial port and resorting the raw data (in binary) to its respective ascii values. The problem I'm facing is determining the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Essentially, I have 68 bytes coming in, the first and second bytes represent the page and packet number and the data itself ranges from 3 to 64, the remaining for my checksum.
What I am needing to do is, grab 50 consecutive bytes per variable in my array, and that is where I'm confused. I have easily pulled my 3-64 bytes and stored that data to a string. I just don't know the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Should I write directly to file all my data, as there are like 8 pages, of 128 packet data. [Code] I can capture the the first 50 by using a for-loop easily, but what would be the preferred method to track what data chunk I've taken? The more I think about it, I think I may just want to write to file, all my data, and then just take them back to back in 50 byte chunks. Is that the most efficient method?

So, I wrote a loader that extracts an executable that I have stored as an embedded resource. It writes it to %TEMP%my.exe.I made my.exe extract some files on launch. Thats why I made it in the temp. But the problem is, when I do Shell(my.exe) to the temp dir in the loader, it runs ok. But the files execute to where my loader is. :S
I was expecting the files to be extracted WITH the my.exe in temp. So if ran on my Desktop, i'd get all these files, as with putting it in temp, it'd work a lot better.Any idea how to get my.exe to launch and not put files from my.exe to extract to the loader's launch dir?

Scenario:I am attempting to perform some work on files (rename/delete) in folder, usually in a network location. Because the location of products folder is not critical, it's rarely ever in the same place on different networks. A simple shortcut on the client machine is all that's required from the client perspective and the rest of the product is self contained on the server somewhere. To run the 'fix' my small application will perform quickly and easily, I need to parse the path held in the target box of the .lnk. Then perform ifexists for a specific file and then do my renaming/deleting.
To keep it as simple as possible, the end user should just 'drop' the shortcut onto my form then click 'fix'.The problem: How in the heavens can I retrieve the target location from the .lnk into a string without windows scripting host?
