Make Windows XP Inactive While Program Is Running?
Jan 6, 2009
I am making a "fake Operating System" or "Virtual Machine" or what ever you want to call it. It has all of its own programs. I want Windows XP to stop running so that it will go faster and so on.Okay so I will obviously need coding on the Form1_Load and Form1_FormClosing Subs.Here is my attempt at coding it (Note that this is just the attempt at coding this particular part. It is not necessary to give you everything cause it would be to much and it might confuse people) :
Private Sub Form1_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
System(My.Computer.FileSystem.Drives.Join)
End Sub

My VB.net framework 4 windows program work fine for the users on Windows XP machines if they are in the local Administrator Group. I would like to setup this click once application to run as an administrator so the user doesn't need to be in the Administrator group. The program is reading the"C:Documents and Settings" & User & "Local SettingsTemp" folder looking for files with extension like "emf", "tmp" and "htm" and then deleting the files if they are older than 24 hours. We have a third party application that adds these file and doesn't delete them so I need the users to run this cleanup program.

I am using VB 2008 express edition. How can I use progress bar with time? i.e.
Progressbar.value = Duration of the running the code
Progressbar.maximum = Maximum time of running
For example:
Timing4 = DateTime.Now
For Generation1 = 1 To Number_of_Generations
'MyCode
Next Generation1
Timing3 = DateTime.Now
Label8.Text = (Generation1 / Number_of_Generations) * 100 & " % Completed"
How can put this with a progress bar?

I completed my VB project a while back and it worked great in XP.Now the same program is needed on computers that have Win7 installed.The program installs without any problems, but when I open it, it gives me an error saying the database is not accessible.
I used Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Compact to design the project.The database was included in the project and in the installation file. I also checked the Programs folder and the database was installed correctly into the correct path.What is the problem with my programs compatibility with Windows 7?

Having worked out how to make a Windows Media Player in VB 2008, I have a new problem of exporting the file and debugging to play the music. I can add midi/mp3 files to the resources section so it works when I press f5 in VB itself, but opening from the debug folder (to save for other computers) loses all the music.

I'm trying to create an application in VB.net that can come to the front once a certain condition occurs (in this case, a file being created). I've tried the following code, but it just results in the taskbar button blinking on Windows 7:
Me.Activate()
I understand the reason for this, and I completely understand why people don't want any random application to steal focus (I hate it too). This is an extremely limited use application (only 3 computers will actually be using it), and the users in this case would want the application to popup in front (there will be an option to turn it off too).
Any ideas if this is still possible to do on Windows 7?

I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

Just placed out first Windows 7 PC in to a production environment and noticed that system.file.io gives errors about file not existing when using mapped drives to a network server. I can access the file through Explorer on the PC. When I chnaged the path to UNC using the IP and drive name instead of the mapped drive letter all works fine. Strange thing is for a few days during the testing period the application ran on Win 7 using the mapped drives in the file.io path. Not sure why it stopped working or how it worked in the first place. Question is on Windows 7 it seems like it doesn't like mapped drives in system.file namespace. Is tis true or are there more steps I need to do in addition to this This works as is, but when I change \172....vol1 to r: it bails, hence the thinking Win 7 is stopping the access to mapped drives.

I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.
