Jun 26, 2011Is there a straightforward way to make a copy of a VB.NET solution and continue the project in another direction? I'd think this is a common problem but haven't been able to find an easy solution. Copying the files and renaming seems messy to me. Does the VS IDE provide anything like this? Update: It's a small project on my home computer so I'm currently not using source control. I wasn't expecting to need to fork or anything. Is there a way I can do this without setting up git or similar?

Feb 7, 2009I have a very busy form with 120 textboxes on it. They are all named box1, box2, to box120. this form is a template for 10 other forms. I dont want to create 10 new forms and put all these textboxes on it, so is it possilbe to create a new form; form2, form3, form4 etc...and somehow copy all the content from one form to the other and retain the textbox names. I tried to cut and paste and got some strange errors, then i tried in the solution explorer to copy and past there. I got some odd error about Private components...which i did not understand. As you can imagine with all these forms and 120 textboxes on each to create them is a real effort. Is there not a simpler way?

Feb 21, 2012I have used the FileStream class with the XmlTextWriter in the past without issue but here I'm using the XmlReader from a WebResponse. I need to the complete contente of the XmlReader dumped into a file. I have the file setup as a streamWriter but I just can't seem to get the content of the XmlReader to the file. I just keep getting a 0KB file.

Jul 20, 2009I have added some classes to my project and now i want to define a variable as one of the classes, for example the class is called xml and i want to create a variable called XMLfile and have it as the class XML.
Can this be done? Or can variables only be declared as types (like Integer, string, etc)?If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room

Jun 30, 2009I have a VB.Net 2005 project, that has 136 textboxes. I have a button, that when pressed, should copy all of their content to clipboard. In order. Each Textbox has one letter in it.
Is there a way I can implement a loop into it, so for every TextBoxCount or something, it copys it into clipboard?

I'm guessing this is because you can't serialize the form that is attached to the class or something, but I really don't know what I'm doing. Can I serialize all of the objects contained in my Form1 class somehow, without getting this error? I don't want to store any data about the form controls, I just need to save all the objects that I've defined at the top of the Form1 class.

Feb 17, 2011We could possibly export the contents of the listview control that we can select in the visual basic 2008 application. I tried to set its properties to 'true' on FullRowSelect, HoverSelection and the MultiSelect. I want to copy and paste the content of the listvew control when being highlighted. It highlights all the items inside the listview control and when you use the command ctrl+c for copy and paste it in another application like MS Excel, it only paste one item which is the first item in the row and the rest were not. However, in the datagridview, it ables to paste all the contents inside of the control but the listview control can't. Why is it so? do i need to add codes on it or it is just the Windows OS is not capable of doing it? How do I copy the selected items from the listview control and paste it into another application? Same as the label control which I want to highlight or select the text of the label in order for me to paste into the other application but unable to do so. These are the two controls that I'm trying to find out on how to export their contents to another windows application.

Nov 13, 2009Enviro: 2007 Exchange Server, 2 Intranet servers (1 deploy, 1 dev) running .NET 2.0 app - all within same network / behind firewall. I am working on a legacy app by our previous web guy, when our sysadmin upgraded to exchange 2007 and put it on a new server all of the mail functions in old app broke. Had to upgrade to .NET 2.0 (from 1.x) and nothing worked untill I tried new SMTP code in a local function in the codebehind of a page of the app instead of calling a class, as follows:

So the above works fine, in that file. The problem is that the app was designed to call a class that resides on the dev server. When I move this same code into the class on the dev server I get transport errors. I think this has to do with the fact that we're using integrated authentication with impersonation=true and it seems to get dropped due to the class being on a different server (even though it's behind our firewall).
I could either try moving the classes to the production server or somehow keep the authentication in the class working through the hops. Either way I need to keep the class because it's referenced all over the place (in more than just this app). I am not that savvy in .NET and I cannot figure out where the setting is within the app that defines where the class is imported from. It just seems to be available no matter where the app is deployed. (Working files are on same server as classes, then publish the app to production server).

Mar 3, 2012I have a solution that contains a WCF service project. In Solution Explorer only the MyService.svc file is shown, but on double clicking it the MyService.svc.vb file opens for editing. That is OK, but Visual HG (based on Mercurial) now doesn't show that the MyService.svc.vb file has changed and I cannot commit any changes without browsing to the Tortoise HG workbench. This is a possible cause for errors when merging code. So, how do I make the MyService.svc.vb file appear in Solution Explorer?
EDIT: The problem seems to be limited to VB WCF projects. In C# there is an arrow before the .svc file that will show the svc.cs file when clicked. Bug?

The user will be able to upload their pages to the respective pages nodes and I am suppose to make it in such a way that after the user uploaded the cover page which is showing at the PictureBox1 which I've use to display the image, and when he uploads the second page image at the PictureBox1, the Cover page image that he uploaded earlier on will not be overwrite.
I was told to create class and use array to store the contain in the respective nodes but I do not have any idea how to do it.
