View 3 RepliesI was looking for some better way of coding to populate all text boxes and make them visible once a button is clicked. I have a letter like format on a page with labels displaying address, name etc and it was recommended that on this page some of the information should be able to be edited. The idea I had was to keep the labels displaying the information but then when the edit details button is clicked the labels disappear, text boxes will appear and be populated with the same text as the label to allow the user to edit the details.
I seem to repeating lines of code but changing one thing each time on page load
Dim Sname As String = Request.QueryString("Name")
lblStuName.Text = Sname
tbStuName.Text = Sname
tbStuName.visible=false
[Code] .....
On edit button
tbStuName.visible=true
tbAddress.visible = true
etc..
On the save button
sqlStatement = "UPDATE StuTable SET Name = '" & lblStuName.Text & "', Address = '" & lblAddress.Text
My code seems very repetitive in many parts, I was looking for a better coding style to do this.
I have a form with six picture boxes on it. Each Picture Box has a button underneath it. When the button in clicked, a "Label" and "Textbox" appears. My question is, how can I close the currently open "Label" and "Textbox", when I click another button. I have a working code below, but it's not efficient. As you can see, I will have to list all labels and textboxes on the form. Is there a way to identify all labels and textboxes without naming them all. [code]...

My concept is to use the same form space to display different "pages", like a "wizard" where you click the [Next] button, and the current UI disappears and a new UI appears. I am programming in VB 2010 and have a question. I have some code that currently only applies to one text box. As you will see, I have sub setup to handle multiple textbox events. My question being, Is there a way to take this code and apply it to all textboxes that are being handled?
VBCode:
Private Sub TextBoxes_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles fnameTxBx.TextChanged, _
lnameTxBx.TextChanged, streetTxBx.TextChanged, cityTxBx.TextChanged
Dim theText As String = fnameTxBx.Text

I'm trying to make custom ListBox with some graphics. Base is ItemCollection - each item contains Panel, 2x label and 2x picturebox. What each panel have to do:
- Change backcolor on MouseEnter and set color back when MouseLeave occurs.
- On MouseDown(LMB) - Panel stays "selected" - different color.
Problem: I can't access multiple panels at a time(and I need to), just one via sender as in function. Of course, I can do it hacky way, but I want to do it effective and regular. Is ItemCollection the right solution or should I do it just like an array of panels? Also I want them in one "box", ItemCollection is good for it.
Second "problem": I need to make labels "merged" in panels, when i MouseEnter them(labels), background color on that panel sets to my default color. when i MouseClick them(labels), nothing happens (need to "select" parent panel). It can be again fixed with hacky way, just disable labels - but then the colors of labels are unchangeable.
I have placed several PictureBox Images of different colored dots(which represent lights) on an image of a Christmas Tree. I can make the lights randomly flash using a randomGenerator and a Select case statement. However, the code is very long. There are 67 lights on this tree and the code is 71 pages long. There has to be an easier way to do this. So far I have tried the following with two images of lights just to see if it would work and it does not work:
Dim picLight(2) As
Boolean
For intX

View 1 RepliesI have run into another problem with my current project. I have a form that I need to print. Doing some searching online I found a few examples and implemented it into my code. It prints but prints all my text boxes and labels stacked on top of one another. How can I get this to print my textboxes and labels formatted as I have them in the form?
Here is my code:

I remember that in VB5 there was an "auto-redraw" property that needed to be turned on in order to make certain features refresh themselves. I'm having trouble with getting labels and text boxes to change in VB2005.A sample code snip would be
Label1.text = "Zero"
Sleep (1000)
Label1.text = "One"

I've been looking into the SaveFileDialog and OpenFileDialog features, but have been failing to implement them. The actualy program that I would be implementing this in is much larger, so alternative methods are welcomed.

I tried everything. Searched a lot on internet and forums.. Question bothers me since yesterday, and my project can not continue without unicode support in basic form controls such as textbox.

I created a form with 2 labels 2 textboxes and a button. Basically it is a login from. When I launch the form it shows the blinking cursor in the 1st textbox(this is ok) but when i try to type nothing happens. Once i click the form(not the textbox-textbox works too but wanted to note it was the form) it works. I have tried doing textbox1.focus(). I have tried doing the form.focus(). Neither were successful. It may have nothing to do with focus but it seems to be that to me.

View 3 RepliesWhen clearing input from users. What is the difference between clearing it in these two forms
txtExample.Clear()
versus
txtExample.Text = String.Empty
The only difference that I could find was that the labels aren't cleared with .Clear() (or at least from what I inferred from my book that's not possible). Is there a noticeable speed difference or should I just clear both labels and txt boxes with String.Empty
