I am having some trouble with patching a file in Visual Basic 2008. The idea is like that.
1- Store File In The Program Using "Resources".
2- If The Program Is Runned. My Program Should Show This Message "Please Close The Program" Or Making My Program Close The Program That I want To Patch.
3- If The Program That I want to patch is closed. Then When you click the button. the file dialogue opened and give to user the ability to choose the file that i want to modify "Replace or patched" after that the file will copied from resource and replaced the old file "Patched" after when this operation finished.
4- show this message "Your Program Is Patched. Enjoy", and the resources file should be crypted Waiting The Solution.
I want to make a Patcher, sort of like the one here (scroll down). My current method is something like:

But to use this, I need to use "FC /B" on 2 files, and the output is WAY to big. (I used FC /B on 2 files about 50kb each and the output came out to be ~200kb. Used it on 2 files about 50MB, and the output came to be over 200MB) How does the Patcher above (link) generate patch files that are super small and so fast?
Basically, the way it works is by comparing the client's version to the server's version.If the client's version is lower then the server's version, it starts updating. Right now I -think- I have it already downloading the file correctly, but am not sure.The source I have it set to currently doesn't have anything there, so if I am doing the downloading wrong, please say so.Then, it extracts the zip that it downloads using SharpZipLib.After that, it deletes the zip.Stuff at the top of the source that is used to update:

how do I make a patcher like for example. I make a listbox, textbox, and a button. The listbox has nothing yet and someone who downloaded has nothing too. I add "Hi" and click the button. My listbox will now have "Hi". How do I make it when someone who downloaded has the word "Hi" without downloading again?
I'm trying to make a patcher/launcher for a game. I want it to happen like this. When the user press's the PLAY button, I want it to check if the files are up to date. If they are, then it will run the exe (it will be in the same directory). If I updated a file, say Sound.x, I want it to download it with a progress bar showing. But the thing is, I looked around and I have no idea how to check if the file is up to date or not.
I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)

I want to create an app that is constantly running and as part of my desktop toolbar. When I mouse over the icon, I want the list to show in front of all other windows on the screan. I, also, want it to fade away once the mouse leaves the icon.If the icon is clicked, the window displays.
I want to be able to click-and-hold the title bar to move it around when the window is displayed. I want the full display of the window to be a check box list with each line being ~25 characters long. At the top of the window, there should always be an open line on top of the list where I can enter a new "task," and hitting the "ENTER" key will save the line and move it down one line, as well as the entire list underneath

I am looking for a tutorial for making reports with Visual Studio 2008. I have a VB.Net app using hard coded MySQL statements and variables from different parts of the program, mostly the server as I have the same app with options to connect to different servers with the same back end structure (different data unique). As far as i know I can not use data sets (I think thats the name for them) as that would mean one program for one location.

I plan on making a Visual Basic Project that involves playing a series of videos. I wanted to have six videos in my project. The videos would be selected through checkboxes. Once the videos are selected, I wanted them to play automatically one after the other from one video player either in the same form or in another form.Is this possible to do? I am using a rich text box and I know a simple way to change the color of a selected word...but I can't make it do it for all the words.Do I need a custom control for this sort of thing...?Also, example: word "If" becomes blue, and all If's in the RTB would be blue.

So i decided to make a units converter for my term's project and my teacher insisted on including the combo box in this project. I'm not really familiar with the combo box as i am still a beginner in visual basic. I've looked around and learned a bit about using the combo box but later i faced a problem. First i created a Main combo box and placed it in the middle of the form. I managed to use the select case command to make other combo boxes appear and disappear as i wish. I don't really know how to describe the problem, i want to make it that if i choose the input as a unit and the output is any other unit from two different combo boxes, the value in the input text box would be multiplied by a certain conversion factor and the result will be shown in the output text box.
I am trying to make a user control for information received from a database but i get:The class WFUserControl can be designed, but is not the first class in the file. Visual Studio requires that designers use the first class in the file. Move the class code so that it is the first class in the file and try loading the designer again.
Do i make the user control directly and add the code? Because thats what i did.. Or are there steps to do first before creating it?

I get the error "Public member 'Checked' on type 'Boolean' not found." I get the fact I'm not able to simply make the text of the code into a variable I can easily insert into the code at will. At least not how I'm trying to do it.How can I dynamically change the check box name I'm referencing in the loop so I don't have to duplicate the code over and over for every check box name?

I have put about 12 Hours into this assignment and i feel that i have most of it completed what have is a combo box that has a FlightBindingSource and a listbox that has ReservationsBindingSource i need to the selected item in the combo box to be sent to a proceedure called DisplayPassengers, and then DisplayPassengers fills the list box with the passengers assigned to each flight.

I need to make an on-screen keyboard for a touchscreen application. I have my main application popping up a child form that shows my keyboard layout. When I press a key on the keyboard form I need it's value to go into a textbox on the main form. So how do I send a keys text value back to the main app?
I'm making a program that would require me to send data between to different machines.The way i plan to do this is to have a server program constantly running on my computer.(any other way to do this?) When someone opens the Client program, the program connects to the server. The server then takes the users I.P address and Username and adds it to a listbox on the Server application. Then the server application constantly updates the list of users on the Client application. So that way every user can see everyone that is connected.Then, when the user wants to connect to another user - They select the Username from their listbox of users. Then all connections will be handled between the users = Each user is connected to the other user's Client program. Well there is the first thing i don't know how to do.The next is simply how i send the data between the users. Would i use a winsock control?Example: One user does an action. The winsock control sends the text "blue" to the other user. The other user's program's form color changes to the color blue. That's not what this program will do, but it's just an example.
