I have to write a program that allows users to specify two numbers and then adds, subtracts or multiplies them when the user clicks on the appropriate button. The out put should give the aritmatic performed and the result. I have a small project from my university they have asked us to make a calculator , well everything is easy so far except the 3 last functions that I need help with.
as we all know vb has already some math functions implemented in its libraries the problem here those functions giving me wrong results I am trying to get math.tan(lblnum.text) math.sin(lblnum.text) and math.cos(lblnum.text)
they don't output the correct numbers any idea why?

Ok. I just took my final for VB and the last chapter we did was on procedures and functions. Functions was the only thing out of this whole semester that I was just completely lost. I'm trying to work on this cause I'm taking Advanced VB next so I wanna know what I'm doing. So I'm trying another tutorial in the book and I'm really lost. Here is what the it wants you to do.
Retail Price Calculator
Write an application that accepts from the user the wholesale cost of an item and its markup percentage. (For example, if an item's wholesale cost is $5 and its retail price is $10, then the markup is 100%)
The program should contain a function named CalculateRetail that receives the wholesale cost and markup percentage as arguments, and returns the retail price of the item.
When the user clicks the Get Retail button, the program should do the following:Verify that the values entered by the user for the wholesale cost and the markup percent are numeric and not negative. Call the CalculateRetail function Display the retail cost as returned from the function.

Note, I've not programmed it to do operations yet, I'm trying to get this sorted out first. My issue is, when I enter my numbers, they do not store as a variable, they both store as zero.

so i am new to v basic and as you can see in the picture below that i have 2 textboxes just to put in them 2 numbers and then do mathematical calcualtions on them and a label up there that shows the answer so i wanted to make 1 textbox to type in the 1 st number then press the symbol for example + and then type the 2nd number and then press equal so the result is formed in the same textbox the only problem is idk how i searched google but i couldnt understand here is my source code

in my calculator script I'm trying to build I have a putton for pi, named Pi. The text on the button is pi. This is where the problem is. Up until now I've just been adding the value of the button to what I call the DisplayScreen (The textbox that outputs your answers), but Pi is not a number. You need to use the other variable that was set up at the top of the coding window, total2. The variable total1 will be added to whatever is total2.The first line of code will be this
total2 = total1 + (something missing here)
Your job is to supply the missing code. In other words, replace "(something missing here)"
Remember that total1 contains the first number to be added. And you know where that came from. The only thing left to do is to add the second number.For the second line of code, you need to transfer the total2 variable to the textbox.For the third line of code, all you are doing is resetting the variable total1 to zero. That's because after the equals button has been pressed, we have finished adding up. If you wanted to do some more adding up, that total1 will still hold the value from the last time. If you reset it to zero, you can start adding some new numbers.

I was trying to make a calculator which takes the amont of copies you want to make and it tells you the cost. Then you type in the amount you want to enter and if its less a message box comes up saying "please enter more money". I've had a few problems
1. when i use formatcurrency the program crashes for no apparent reason
2. if i calculate cost without entering any copies then it crashes (ive tried putting a msgbox in but it crashes anyway)
3. if i get the msgbox to come up saying "Please enter more money" i had to remove the formatcorrency tag.

I am creating a VB 2008 change calculator as an assignment. The program is to use the amount paid - the amount due to calculate the total.(this is working fine). After that, it is to break that amount down into dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. The problem I am having is that sometimes the quantity of pennies, nickels or dimes will be a negative number. For example $2.99 = 3 Dollars and -1 Pennies.

I need test data for a IP Subnet calculator I have developed. I have tested some obvious scenarios, and all seems good, but the person developing can often be the wrong person to test.
The calculator can do one of two things:
1 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a new CIDR it will create a number of networks with the appropriate number of hosts.
2 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a list of c,h, (c = count, h=number of hosts) it will create the networks.

I am attempting to write a speed/distance calculator using visual basic 2008 express edition. I have gotten the program to do most everything I need but am having some difficulties and have been trying to fix them for 2 or 3 days now without any success. Will somebody, anybody please tell me how to fix the problems.The calculator should display the distance traveled when the speed and time are entered. This is the only major requirement. However, It needs to have all info input via a list box with popup windows displayed for speed entry and then again for time entry. I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)

Now of course these change as my game moves forward however I have to add for example 15 months. Now I'm lost at how to calculate this. Ideas I've had. Add 15 to 6 which equals 21, devide by 12 you get 1.75. Add one year to the DateYear and with the .75 I would do 12 * .75 which equals 9. So DateMonth = 9 DateYear = 2011 Which is fine I guess, here is where I got stuck To add DateYear and DateMonth I had to convert to Single. How can I split the Single at the?

I am having some trouble with patching a file in Visual Basic 2008. The idea is like that.
1- Store File In The Program Using "Resources".
2- If The Program Is Runned. My Program Should Show This Message "Please Close The Program" Or Making My Program Close The Program That I want To Patch.
3- If The Program That I want to patch is closed. Then When you click the button. the file dialogue opened and give to user the ability to choose the file that i want to modify "Replace or patched" after that the file will copied from resource and replaced the old file "Patched" after when this operation finished.
4- show this message "Your Program Is Patched. Enjoy", and the resources file should be crypted Waiting The Solution.

I want to create an app that is constantly running and as part of my desktop toolbar. When I mouse over the icon, I want the list to show in front of all other windows on the screan. I, also, want it to fade away once the mouse leaves the icon.If the icon is clicked, the window displays.
I want to be able to click-and-hold the title bar to move it around when the window is displayed. I want the full display of the window to be a check box list with each line being ~25 characters long. At the top of the window, there should always be an open line on top of the list where I can enter a new "task," and hitting the "ENTER" key will save the line and move it down one line, as well as the entire list underneath
The action of ENTERing a new "task" should spawn a new open line at the top of the checkbox where the user can enter a new task. When a box (located to the left in front of each line of text) is checked for a line, that line will disappear."Checking" a box should move every line underneath of the Checked (and thus deleted) line up one line. There should be a "close" or "minimize" (depending on how you keep in to the task bar) button the hide the app when I'm through using it.

I am looking for a tutorial for making reports with Visual Studio 2008. I have a VB.Net app using hard coded MySQL statements and variables from different parts of the program, mostly the server as I have the same app with options to connect to different servers with the same back end structure (different data unique). As far as i know I can not use data sets (I think thats the name for them) as that would mean one program for one location.
